G'day people,
Can anyone enlighten me as to the difference between a yamaha ttr250 and a wr250?
Cheers :)

wr250 is a more race worthy bike than ttr250

ttr is consider a more playbike than race bike.

Danny,
TTR is air cooled 4 valve engine designed with a power curve to be user friendly and design is certainly dated mechanically to give longevity to engine unit.
WRF/YZF are liquid cooled 5 valve configuration with very over square engine that allows masses of engine RPM and therefore more condusive to wear and maintenance issues.
Performance wise WRF/YZF out perform TTR by amount that is not really quantifiable given levels of performance gained with add on bits to both bikes. In Stock form the WRF/YZF are obviously more powerful, although there are a few ex-ThumperNats prepped TTR's that are real weapons and would make nice small bore motard..
If a TTR is the preference for your bike Danny, dont discount the new TTR230 as it would make sweet motard too.

In my own way it like this

XR400 wiseco 440 big bore and a random muffler very good bike owned for 16 months all off road riding.

04 wr450 kills it in every way possable apart from the maintance but its only 50 bucks a month oil and filters any dirt rider can handle that.

Muzz has 30k plus on his very well looked after bike and for sale too ( I think at the right price it is anyway)

A freind of mine 19500k on a 03 wr250 original pistons and changed the oil when he felt liked it lots of highway speeds too.

Thats more then enough to tell ME that they rock one looked after and one thrashed and treated like a tt-r 250

As strange as this statement may seem to some, others will instantly see the connection.
With my WRF250R. It has now amassed over 400 engine hours, done over 35000KMS and still only on the second spark plug.
The secret to this outstanding longevitity from these small capacity multi valves, is a joint effort of obviously regular oil and filter changes and the most important aspect...
Filter ALL openings of the engine cases!
This means a K&N filter on the top of the rocker box to clean air entering crankcase through normal engine operation. Yamaha supply the bike with a friggin 1/2" hose running down the front of the frame as a crankcase breather and that hangs in the shit coming up from off the front wheel! Sand particles from roadways, let alone fucking fistfuls of crap entering your oil as an abrasive every time you go offroad...
Bottle and filter carb overflows to limit the entering of foreign bodies into carb openings and bowl, for insertion to your engine next time you give it a good rev. Good moisture retardant also.
Clean your air cleaner element very regularly as this has been advised by Yamaha as being an added advantage to protecting the engine from top end failure.
These things have all been identified as adding to the life of the engine and this WRF is testiment to its practice..
I have said before, 'Smooth is fast, but careful can still be quick' and thats the case with the way the bike is ridden also. Dont get me wrong, I like to feed it some RPM too but be careful with gear changes and dont stress the box too much with clutchin' it up here and there, use the clutch for shifting cause thats why its there!
So,.. Get a WRF for a road motard, Do these things and you'll have one to ride for a while hassle free :D , neglect it and you'll be looking at a bike in a shed.

Muz, have the valve seats given you any trouble? How often do you adjust the valve clearances?

Are you sitting down Rick!.. :D
Never had the rocker box off!

 Phwooaah!, thats a country boy for ya!...(just kidding)
Nah not me, Ive got a knack of hitting a false neutral between 5th &6th pretty regularly and she revs to the moon  Ive had a few second handies that were badly in need of it too, (and Im heaps fussy too [-X )

It runs sweet now but would like a freshen with rings soon, but not at all 'cammy' or noisy in the top end.

Bet you get more power if you do it

Muzz knows he really needs the 280cc big bore

I mean, if you're going to go to all the trouble of pulling the top end down and pulling the cylinder off to replace the rings..... :D

Mmmm, 280 kit! That would almost be riding a Cow and a Calf
