View Full Version : Jakesteins WRF450 Build

Although he will complete the build as it takes place, Jake has secured himself some very tasty polished 17" rims laced to OEM Yamaha hubs to fit into his new 450...
I have given him a pair of Pilot Race in soft front and medium hard rear which are used, to get him mobile. He has organised a sprocket and I will take the wheels to Echuca and fit them up for him for the first time and give him the 'good oil' on other motard orientated tricks while there.
Another keen and actively riding member once fitted up, as Jakes bike is/will be registered and ridden regularly...
Good on you Jake!... And now we all want to know how the build up goes cause I dont know anyone with a motard that looks, 'just like a dirt bike with little wheels'. They are all individual and most often modified everywhere you look!

Thanks guys I really cant believe muzz's interest in the growth of the sport very keen. 8)
Spoke to Rick as you know and I am getting a 15/42 set-up and some heavy duty tubes, the knowledge Rick spoke with was great and told me in details why I would want steel sprockets and thicker tubes.
specs at the time of print.
04wr450
pro-circuit pipe Type 496
TAG T2's
to come
MOTARD WHEELS (reason I bought the bike)
CDI mod
Front fender in Rose Pink  maybe black
and a not so legal but less ugly number plate bracket.
road style boots when i get settled back in Echuca
Thanks
Muzz let me know when its good for you to come over I will be job hunting for a couple of days 14th-21st(gotta jump on the 1st one I get  ) But I can do it then if you have time.
The bike has to be taken to wodonga yamaha to get the road gear on for rego some reason it was left there when they deliverd,
but its paid for so its all good.

For another motarder to get started Jake, No problem!
I have been riding this style of bike since the early 80's and done a few now.
As soon as Rick has the wheels together, (as he is doing the build himself for quality, and uses a Talon spoke tension wrench!) I will fit up your tyres and tubes, balance them, fit the sprocket, wipe of the grubby finger prints from them shiny rims :D and phone you for a time...
How's that sound for VSMR service then eh?...And dont forget to tell your mates! :D
Phone the blokes at Wodonga Yamaha and get them to freight the ADR gear to you, Or me if they can get it here by Friday, and I can do that with you too, piss easy!
Jeez, this is the 3rd time I've edited this in 5 minutes...
I have for you if you like a twin headlight unit, (Acerbis) in blue, an Acerbis SMR front guard with front cut in blue, and a standard YZF rear guard if you were going to use an LED taillight unit...
These items you may borrow until your pocket recovers from your wheel purchase mate...

First ride impressions :D   8) it was only 3 blocks but I was very impressed.
I fiddled with the ADR gear Muzz got the speedo, horn to work and the rear blinkers mounted but couldn't get them or the headlight to work , a freind is coming over tomorro to have a look.
pictures to come in a few days

You may have to put the original battery back in Jake, and I think it would be the one in the box.
Blinkers may not work until all are connected and you are aware the engine must be running for all accessories to operate.

Yeah realized nothing happens until its started  ( took 10 minutes)
Will try the battery now
The front light has only one connection the Three pronged thing that plugs into the centre Yes or no?
Muzzard
17-04-2005, 07:37 PM
Yes Jake the headlight unit has only one connection that is a molded 3 pin connector.
The plug for the blinker can looks the same though...
The one for the headlight should be colour coded yellow (high beam) green (low beam) and black (earth)..
Ring me if you have trouble mate. :)

Or you can just get an acerbis shroud, stick in two 50w 12 degree halogens and wire both of the suckers on ... really pisses off the traffic at night
jakestein
17-04-2005, 07:49 PM
Yeah I followed the colors for each plug but i still cant get it to light the headlight when I hit High-Beam it shows on the speedo dial face
I am going to connect all blinkers & lights start it then have a second look
Off topic it looks like I got that Job so the wallet is gonna be ready for some rapid opening and closing

Jake try the OEM Yamaha one with the bike running and the headlight nacelle hanging by the wires and wiggle the plug on the back of the headlight globe...
Sometimes just poor contacts will do that, especially on motorbikes as they are all weather vehicles... More so when parked.

Looks real nice Jake...
Rick has got the range of steel sprockets in and they start @ 40 teeth and go up from there...
Discs are on the way so you wont have to wait too long for it, but you need to source an adapter for it. I think the EBC or Talon TB06 will fit the bill. I will know for sure as soon as I try fitting up mine!
I can organise one for you if you like, just to make sure its a straight forward swap.
jakestein
18-04-2005, 10:51 PM
If you could get a 42 for me , just put it on hold.
and organize rick to get an adapter I can send a money order over one for him and one for the disc with your name on it :)
I will get highside to fit it up.

I can do that for you if you like, although the wheelset need to be retensioned and trued again in a week or so ridings... ( When the licence comes back that is Jake) and I told you I will come over and do it for you, most sensible to do the whole lot at the same time seeing you still got a week or so to go for legal status again! :D
Ring me and discuss it mate, can be MUCH cheaper option... 8)

18-04-2005, 11:02 PM
We have a few weeks to sought some thing out , we should wait and go for a ride at the same time although Echuca is flat and has streets straighter then Manhattan
is there a pic of this bike. I would like to see it, since I cant get to Oz just to take a look at it. LOL

I have some new ones the style that bolt onto the end of the bar but I dont like them so I have to live with my faded ones till later on :(
Muzzard
19-04-2005, 05:01 PM
Your OEM handguards supplied in the ADR kit wont fit the bars you have on the bike anyway Jake...
You will need to look at some Barkbuster styled guards instead of them silly flipper thingys you've got,.. unless you intend on some river crossings!

Standard muffler blows :booty:
It's not a great time to be getting the bike on the road it has been raining but I have still been causing havoc ( under the speed limit that is).
Getting looks from everyone 8) , The speedo is out by 15km? rough guess so I just putt around till I find a decent replacment.
Cant wait to ride thru the city on monday :!:
Got a EMS rotor to go on and a Braking adapter as well but Getting time to fit it is a problem
P.S it still runs the faded flipper handgaurds  :?

Ok NEW picture are in the folder :D Photos of "Rat Bike" as well
On closer inspection you will see brake disc fitted , Pro Circuit pipe back on and for nit pickers dryed mud on the tyres sides I have been trying to lean it over. It seems to be very leaned over around town like way over but I guess it has more in it :!:
Turning into Highside motorbike shop it was hangin WAY out Phil who was following in a car said it looked cool.
Pre brake fitment it was great but now it f'en rocks.
We also dropped the front down 18mm through the clamps huge steering change and I feel more confident on it now. Anyone else do this?
Oil and filter change aswell :) pictures here >>http://www.vsmr.net/modules.php?set_albumName=jakestein&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php
