Hi guys,
It is finally completed, I have set up a pair of RGV rims to suit my '05 KTM 450exc. Thanks to the guys who offered their ideas.

I ended up sandblasting the rims, then machined out front rim to fit oversized bearings, then made spacers to suit the original 26mm KTM axle rather than running the pissy little RGV axle. This also makes swapping wheels much easier. Next I machined down the sprocket carrier and made new spacers to suit the rear rim. I then polished up the rims in the lathe, masked up for paint, and threw a few coats of metallic dark grey over them, finished off with clear. For the front brake I used a 320mm floater off a Yamaha, I had to set up in the milling machine on an indexing head and machine out new bolt holes. For the rear I made a 220mm disc spun up on the lathe then into the indexing head to lighten down a little and for some bolt holes. A set of new bags and I was off, MOTARDING!!!! :roost:

If anyone would like more info on this conversion or needs any machining done around the Geelong area, please PM me and I would be happy help out! :D

Looks great! I can see the direction markers on the tyre but I can see why ash thinks its on backwards, as the tread pattern is opposite on front and rear - on the rear the tread would push water out to the edges, whereas the front seems to channel it toward the middle of the tyre, which you wouldn't think is what you'd want. But I guess mr michellin knows best :lol2:

The tyres do grip OK in the wet, so the M man does know best.

The rims look mega sexy and turns the KTM into sex on wheels! Now get out there and thrash the bags out of it!!!!

I have experianced direction markers wrong before (not on bike tyres though) but they are usually wrong on the side wall not the tread.
Still looks good though!

ZuluFoot I would love to do a track day, but am working this weekend, damn shiftwork :banghead: I will hopefully catch up you boys soon.
Have rode down the Great Ocean Road a couple of times on it, so light throwing side to side sure beats the old GSXR round the tight stuff!!

Thanks tambi,
Nah cant sell it, have owned it 12 years it was my first car.
It has a 253 in it, as i rebuilt it when i was on my Ps, and not legally allowed to have a bigger engine in it.
It was my daily driver for 5 years but now only gets driven occasionally, the bike gets priority now!!
Although the missus has been driving it to work as I have been working on her car for way too long now! Need more hours in the day to fit life in :coffee:

Ah yes, the old torrie ... reminds me of my old torana I had in adelaide before moving to melbourne, was about 8 years ago.

Good fun that one, 308, M21 4 speed, holly downdraft (unfortunately with vacuum secondaries, but with really weak springs on it ;) ) and a full twin system. Didn't brake or handle, but geez it went well and looked good

This is going to make you cry mate, but I ended up selling it a number of years ago for about a grand after my brain surgeon brother put the battery in backwards and fried the whole wiring loom

I think you will find that's a 250EXC but you could confuse it with a Nissan after half a slab of beer. ;)

Check out all these Torana bogans coming out of the woodwork now, lol.
From a Torana to a Magna wagon, what the hell happened Neil? :)

Rob

Nah its a 380.

Was along the lines of rz250 with rz350 barrels for licensing reasons :)

Ah, very tricky grasshopper. Nice one.
The old 250EXC airbox stickers on the bigger bike trick. ;)

I thought the cars in the thread had tarnished your thinking Rob, lol. :)

There was a holden shuttle van in between for quite a few years :lol2:

Dunno if it was an original or not, had an SS interior of sorts, but like most it was a mix of replacement bits (SS trim, aftermarket wheel, celica seats, etc). I don't want to know how much they sell for restored if it was :lol2:

Probably about 20 but up to 30 if it's real nice!! Anything 2 door and Australian is worth a mint now even better if it's a "rare" or "sports" versions!!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention setting up the speedo for the different circumference tyres, some people probabally know how to do this, but for those who dont this should save your sanity
Sorry if not quite right as this is off the top of my head

First of all disconnect the wiring harness from the back of your speedo, then use the right button to scroll through options, stopping on hour meter. Hold in right button to give you options, now instead of just normal options you can also select WS(wheel size). Change to the circumference of tyre in mm (approx 1890 for a road tyre) using +/- buttons. Then hold down right button. All done. Next time you turn on the speedo it will show your new wheel size, cool!
