Well after waiting nearly all week my local bloke tells me that the container bringing in the Distanzia fronts didn't show. Figured i would check this out a bit more & rang Peter, yeah, the only way to get a front is if you can find a shop that has one in stock. Peter has had them on backorder for 6 weeks already, no container till April. So needing a front & getting desperate to get my bike on the road asked him for some options & he suggested a Bridgestone 014, after i said i was more into the road ride than the dirt. He also suggested a Pirelli Diablo, he had a 2nd hand Bridgestone there but i wasn't willing to wait till next week. So if you need tyre advice, he's definately the man to talk too

u could try and track one down from overseas and see if u can get one sooner or call avon distributors direct and see if they know anyone in aus who has them in stock. mixing tyres can be bad but i have a mate with avon rear gp70 front and he doesn't seem to mind

ask someone else on here who is buying a set of tyres soon and buy the front they want, use it on ur bike till the avons come and sell it to them.

You could try Ducati Melbourne / KTM Richmond. They had a pair late last year and some bloke bought just the back one for some strange reason... ;)
I dare say they might still have the front left. It's a possibility...maybe...
03 8420-8888, ask for Angelo in the workshop.

I was using a Bridgestone BT002 type 4 (super soft) on the front and it was the stickiest treaded tyre i've ever used. I had a bridgestone slick rear on and still never pushed the front wide.

They're expensive, but they're bloody sticky. Most of the superbikes use them as intermediates when it's not dry enough for slicks and not wet enough for wets.

014s seem to be pretty decent for a road/track tyre, though not as focussed as the 002 :)

Just outta curiosity just who on here is riding on Avon Distanzias regularly.
Myself, Ash and Neil have always been on them, and more of the pictures I see through the forums are bikes sporting them.
Devo and Juice to name a couple in Queensland and they seem to do the job as well there as here.
Maybe we should be putting something to Cooper Avon for site sponsorship ;)

Thanks Muzz, was supposed to do a ring around the local shops today but work schedule has been busy. I wont stress about the tyre but i'm still stressing about the f@#%wit in Albury who wont send my spring back. :x All i wanna do is ride my bike :?

i myself run avons so that makes 75% of the queensland contingency which i say is a fairly decent amount. it seems the good word of them on here has pushed alot of people to get them, myself for one. surely that should mean that sponsorship would be worth while.

Who handles the importation & distribution of the motorcycle side of Avon here in Oz?
I can't remember who it is.
If someone let's me know I'll contact them and see how we go on the sponsorship front.
Cheers,
Juz.

I can't wait to see Muzz's reply to this one. :)
Kickbacks might happen if you are on the WSBK or MotoGP grid but even then it's still rare as rocking horse shite.
Maybe 10 to 15 years ago when the bike trade was thumping off it's gutz, but not now with the internet and 'bring it in yourself' from overseas stuff. Things have changed bigtime.
I have resigned to the bring it in yourself stuff now, I couldn't care less.
If it saves you dollars then go for it. :D

Are you ready for those KTM SMC Ti headers from the USA yet Sean (Shamus)? I'll need about another month. :D

I wish.
Its hard to get anyone to part with anything these days, even if you couple it up to a successful website that has identified the market and the customers in it, gathered in the one place.
I cant even buy a bike at cost or close too.
Site sponsorship will have to be more expensive I think

And in regards to Cooper Avon,
Try Kenma.
Where the fuck do they think all these Distanzias are going,
Especially seeing they are motard specific, not used here for Racing, and not fitted to anything OEM  ...

They probably don't care as long as they are moving!

On a different note how much different will a 160 perform compared to a 150 on a 4.25? I can get one real cheap and I'm pretty low on cash, and lets say there is no tread on the left and very little on the right. (iIt seems to be going down really quick now!!!)

Should be OK on the Husky Ash.
It will not have the flatter profile but should give you about the same cornering angle...

What sort of milage are you getting from Distanzias, and how are they in the wet and the dry ? What else can you tell me about them - radials, tubeless etc etc

Muzzard

Motard specific, Radial, H rated, Grouse wet/dry and Offroad,
Longest wearing for level of grip offered..
Get some WOOLO and never look for another motard tyre unless its slick ;)

Ash, you'll be OK on a 160, but ultimate grip depends on the profile. The distanzia has actually surprised me as I can use almost all of the 160 even on the stock 4.25 rim. I think part of this comes from the distanzias being a little narrower than many, slightly under sized compared to most which are a fair bit over sized (the 150 disty is about a 148mm measured, so the 160 is probably a 157 or something on a 5"). The other part must be the nature of the profile, probably more rounded and not V shaped like a rennsport (which would have about an inch of chicken strip left on a 160 on a 4.25).

What sort of tyre is it?

I think I might be needing to relieve you of a round thing in your shed too before the next track day Neil.
Might fit it on Saturday night.
This one has no wear indicators left

And let the black fella go ;)

Probably another one of those tasteless humour moments of political correctness that I seem to be blessed with,

But were expecting Murray V2 for a BBQ recently
