Guys, (and girls)
Gonna be staying @ Wesburn on Saturday night and so i'm asking who might be in for a ride up the Spur on the sunday.
My Mum's just bought an acre property right on the main road to Warburton and she intends on turning it into some sort of tea room/biker stop or something one day...(but that's another story)
So i'll be there and if anyone is interested, let me know and we'll tee something up. Anybody is quite welcome to park their cars/trailers on the property as there is ample parking.
In the not too distant future this will make an excellent camp area/home base for a weekend of riding/drinking/riding!!!!
Let me know...
Cheers!
(P.S.--I'm just waiting for a new clutch line for my bike, but i've been promised, it'll be here on thursday). [-o<

Just whatever suits everybody--no pressure!
Fingers crossed for you muzz! Weather looks good too.
Just PM me if you're interested an i'll give you my number, (just don't go giving it out to your girlfriends ok

Yeah, It looks like I will make the trek, but riding down so will leave around 6am and see you blokes in Wesburn...
Say, Out front of the Sam Knott Hotel in the Hwy at 9am and beat the loonies on the mount...
Maybe work in a ride route to see me heading homeward mid arvo...
Oh, and for Ash lets do some more jumps  ...
And if we can get the helmet cam from Pete before Sunday,
Surely we can find a bit of bush track that we can film motards riding in areas you wouldnt expect to see them... (for web download)

I'm out for saturday--gotta work.
And at this stage i'm 100% there saturday night and sunday, but I couldn't get a new clutch line in time, so i'm hanging on ENZED to fit a new fitting on Friday (tomorrow). :x
I'm all for the idea of meeting at Sam Knott hotel at 9 am.
Not sure exactly where that is yet, but sounds good.
I'll have a definite answer friday night as to whether i'll be riding or not, so i'll check in again and finalise some details.
Hope lots can make it!! :D

Its looking like the regulars will be predisposed, and that will leave You, Ash and I.
Unless Steve comes and we rustle up Dicky and Rhys?
Its a long ride for limited turnout Dogg, sort of like riding here...
The Sam Knott is the hotel on the Warby hwy on the right hand side going through Wesburn... 'Tis famous! :drinkers: ............ :puke:

Yeah i understand muzz. I was a bit surprised to hear you're gonna ride down for "the ride"...That's commitment!
I'm definately in anyway, so we'll just wait and see who turns up.
I still didn't get my clutch fully sorted, but i should be able to get in a good part of a days ride with the way it is. There's no way i could have backed out now seeing as i've sort of organised it.
Seriously considered borrowing a mates new R1, but it just wouldn't be the same...
I'll check this forum saturday afternoon for any last minute changes and i'll send you my mobile number Muzz.
Hope some more can make it along!

Quinton, I would still come down and ride with you mate, cause you posted for a ride...
Get hold of the mate on the R1 and see if he doesn't want to join us...
Will check here tomorrow PM, and ring you if unable to make it...
Ash, Steve, You blokes in?
Sunday sounds right to me............ Book me in for a starter, should be great weather. Sam Knott Hotel @9.00 still the go?

Thinking about a route to take down and will undoubtedly come in via Marysville over the Reefton Spur. Sort of leaves a bit of scope.
Neil, you know if the Whitfield - Mansfield Rd is tar all the way, or has it got gravel too?
I could go from Mansfield through Jamieson to either Eildon and Alexandra etc, or Woods Point and onto Warburton etc, but that is nearly all unsealed I think.
Melba Hwy is the usual route, then this case, Alexandra, Marysville,Warburton, Wesburn.
Will leave @ 6 AM so should be there just before 9, but could be a bit after...
Wobbly
09-04-2005, 12:05 AM
The mansfield/whitfield rd should be all tar .... it only goes back to dirt once you get to whitfield and if you turn right (heading toward bright) and want to try and shortcut on the way east .... woods point is still dirt/gravel as far as I know :-k
danno
09-04-2005, 09:48 AM
Whitfield can be accessed by tar and it is tar the entire way to Mansfield. Driven it 5 times in the last year. :D and the old ute can slide with the best of em

We have a big BBQ tonight, but I promise* not to ge too pissed.
See you all outside Sam Knott at 9:00.

I'm heading off for Wesburn to stay the night now.
See you all in the morning!!!
9 am--Sam Knott Hotel.
B-Bye
(P.S. Muzz--seeing as you're making such a huuuuuuuge effort, i'll return the favour soon and make the trek up to Wang for a fang. So if anyone else is interested, i'll have 1(!) spare spot in the ute. Have a safe ride down).

Well another good days hooning through the hills.
Got up at 5am this morning and looked out into the darkness and wondered if the weather would hold... :D It did.
Headed of at 5.45 and got on the Hume to Benalla then the Midland to Yarck where I swung off and headed for Alexandra. Unremarkable trip to there and after a quick smoke was off again in search of the Buxton-Marysville road. Turned left there and up and over the Reefton Spur to Warburton and Wesburn...
I was not as punctual as either Rhys or Quinton as they were outside the pub when I got there... (Seeing Quinton was in Wesburn last night he was probably just being thrown out when I arrived :) )
Dicky rolled up about 5 minutes later and then Steve on the newly prepped DRZ  BTW.. Looks real nice Steve!
After fuel at Warburton we up and over the Reefton to the Lake Mountain Rd, but not before Rhys thought he would join the growing list of 'Lets just park it here on its side club'...
No noticable damage immediately, but given the pristine condition of Rhys' bike I would suggest he will find something when it comes to the cleanup.
Quinton had a near miss with a low side, after letting his front wheel go straight ahead when the road and the rest of the bike went right!
All in all a good ride up the hills, but I still had more to go before home.
I went back to Alexandra the same way I came then took Skyline and over to Bonnie Doon on mostly dirt with a splatter of tar.
Crossed the Hwy at Bonnie Doon and into the forest again, came out at Bargarg and then across the Broken River to Whitfield by fire access roads then bitumen home from there.. All up for me about 700km.
So whens the next one?.. :D
Oh, And thanks to Quinton for organising/posting it up... :)

For your interest Ash, I forgot to add, the only dirt we did was the Acheron Way. It has been recently graded and level of grip was -4...
Rolling pebbles in the straights and wet clay in the shadows and corners that was grip level -7, even with the Distanzias.
I did a shit load of dirt on the way home cause my bike was already dirty.

Btw, despite being tied up today somewhat I did manage to get out for a quick fang on saturday ... started to hoon off down my favourite bit of tarmac (chump creek) and came up real fast on the back of a cop car
Screech of brakes, quick U turn and then down the other side (myers creek side i think?). First time I've done that road in that direction (downwards) ... hmm, interesting ... and farking bumpy! I spent a fair bit of the ride holding my weight with the pegs and knees like you're supposed to ride, rahter than with my fat ass plonked on the seat lazily like I usually do
Btw, my official second favourite piece of road now is the tight section at the top of the spur, the bit just between marysville and the woods point turnoff. Used to hate it but now its all nice and resurfaced and grippy stuff. None of that 'orrible gravelly dirty stuff for me :D

I've stuck a few pics in the gallery.
Last time I checked the album is called Untitled.
Mayne Neil can fix this, I'm buggered if I could change it.
Great ride, loved the Reefton, almost blew in my pants across the sealed part of the Acheron, came back to reality on the dirt part, got rained on coming through Kinglake on the way home.
What more could you ask for in a grand day out?
Catch up with you all in a few weeks when I get back from NZ again.
dicky.

Yeah I have to agree dicky, what a top day! Those who couldn't make it along really missed out. I managed to nurse my clutch for the day and also found out that i prefer to slide my rear tyre, a little bit more than the front!
Great ride, loved the Reefton, almost blew in my pants across the sealed part of the Acheron
--I was thinking about that part of the ride today and it sort of reminded me of that scene in "Return of the Jedi" in the forrest on the speeda-bikes. (anyone know what i'm talking about)?
Just flyin through corners with very little regard for what's ahead, big trees that almost touched the sky, (that sounds wanky, but you know what i mean). And dicky might be the size of an ewok, but it took some pretty big cajones to lead the group through there at that pace. That or some decent local knowledge--not sure which yet. (Maybe it was the big LC4's vibrations affecting his vision)??? :supz:
Of course until we hit the dirt and the dick-head in the cruiser thought that he lilked muzzs' bike more than he, and tried to make it a bonet emblem! Luckily, (for the cruiser knob-head), he kept going!
:axe: (wouldn't like to see the big muzz all fired up.
Anyway muzz, glad to hear you made it home safe and sound. Felt guilty about not doing another run up the spur to see you off, but i didn't realise you were goin alone! And dicky, i turned off at wesburn and missed sayin goodbye, but atleast i gave Steve a quick wave. (sorry mate).
All in all, top day, great weather, good blokes. :D
So when IS the next one?...

Coming through to Whitfield yesterday arvo was a blast, and some really spectacular scenery. Maybe we should make Mansfield meeting point for the next ride...
Or of course there's always the Tawonga gap from either Bright or Mount Beauty
Balance of convenience says it will be based in Melbourne, and thats all good too, but we need an urban assault night soon before it gets too cold. A pizza and coffee ride...
