Today at about 4.30 an XR motard with cast mag wheels shot down my street and round the corner out of sight. I think maybe 600 about 98/99 model, grey centre RGV/CBR wheels white tank red seat...
The dude riding it was wearing a backpack, and headed down Rowan St towards either Yarrawonga or Shepparton way...
Who are you Ghost rider?

And then today in Benalla, another XR this time an 02 XR650R.
Sporting N.S.W plates and geared up I assumed a return from the Supers.
I gave him a web address card and spoke briefly about the street scene here and Wakefield park Track days..
Very nicely prepared motard with black on gold Talon/Excells and I think a Staintune system. He built the bike himself in 2002 and loves it...
Sam gets wind of all the XR's about, he will be jealous as he hasn't put his wheels together yet, and all the bits are there... Sort of like Neils cams... :D

Wobbly
04-04-2005, 07:38 PM
Oi! If I put those cams in I'll need another set to look good in front of the telly!

Well, I was thinking the other day, if I'm going to all the trouble of taking the cams out, reshimming and having to reset the timing, I figured it would be a travesty if I didn't pop the head off and have a look at the valves. Then if I'm doing that then its really no work to take the barrel off and throw in a new set of rings. So I had better have the barrel re-honed while I'm at it to get the rings to seal properly. But if I'm going to do that then I may as well have the cylinder re-bored and plated and a new 440cc piston and ring put in.

:D

Anyone else like my reasoning?

Flash
04-04-2005, 07:45 PM
Yep love the way you think
Maybe if the barrel is off you should refinance the house and get a stroker kit as well not to mention that while it's all apart it would be the perfect time to build a low compression motor and put a turbo on.
 :D  :supz:

Muzzard

I have heard of Suzuki's going out to 500 odd cc. They are not renowned for their longevity in competition but for street motard, it would be one FAT DRZ!
And enough torque to pull your wetsuit off...

danno
04-04-2005, 08:30 PM
Neil, forget the turbo and stroker kit, just bolt a supercharger on and fry the competition. :shoot: :shoot::shoot:Go the big bore, head work and cams.. you'll feel like your riding a new bike. :D

Wobbly
04-04-2005, 09:42 PM
I did think about it muzz I must admit ... with the standard big bore and the yoshi style stroker kit (2.5mm offset crank from memory?) they punch out to 503cc, but reliability has been the problem in competition ...

A fair bit of work though, as apparently you need to take some of the diameter off the webs in order for the piston skirt to clear properly and under elastic compression. The stock cam chain is apparently OK and then you need to space the cylinder up and re-set the cams (which would be OK since the hotcams have slotted cam gears stock).

Aaaaarrrgggghhhh. Stop it - get these demons out of my head!!!

i dont know why you all are going to soo much effort to think up ideas to get hp out of a four stroke. now the 500cc is a good mark me thinks. CR500E road reg 2 stroke, more hp than the drz could ever get and no need for a turbo/blower/cams/stroker....well bored and stroked would be nice. 650cc two stroke unrideable weapon!!!

i know this will cop abuse, but leave the drz as it is, reliable. If you want hp by a highly stressed high maintainance enduro bike!

Any way, we should be talking about supercharged, direct electronic fuel injection, direct port induction (the charge comes from the blower) and all the great things that will bring.

I had the idea of using a 450 engine, replacing the barrel with a two stroke jobbie. The bottom cam sprocket can be used to drive the blower. The bearings and gearbox should be able to handel the forces, as a two stroke has half the forces twice as often, which is a more even spread of force. the clutch could be a problem, but that is simple to fix.

So who wants to match a two stroke cylinder to a 4 stroke block?

I remember a guy from shep we used to go over from Echuca and have a few rounds of kick boxing for extra training he once told me he had a xr600/650 motard.
He's name is Danny Mascachef (sp?) on the last name, but he has been ranked very highly in aus so a bit of searching might bring something up.

If your keen on speaking to him you might try GV Martial Arts its in shep they will know how to contact him.

Muzzard
05-04-2005, 07:59 PM
Hey Jakestein,
I use Mobil Synthetic racing 4T. About $55 per 4ltr, but you get 3 changes and top up for that. I only use paper disposable YMP filters and change the filter at least per thousand kilometres road riding and 10 engine hour intervals which ever comes first.
Dont go clutching it up everywhere you go and the clutch fibre stays on the plates, not in the oil...
Ride it hard, service it more regularly...
Gonna motard this one?

If its JTR that you think you will go with the local agent is Rick Wason.
Ray Wason M/C in Rowan St...
The details are on the front page on the sponsor link. Make sure you ask for Rick, and its in regards to motard wheel sets and that you are a VSMR member...
Cant guarantee anything, but Rick is very good mates with John personally as well. If there is a delay, it will be because of lack of components to make up wheels. (Like no red rims, but lots of red hubs for instance)
If you want factory hubs and polished silver WCM rims for 04 WRF 450 you can P.M me for details and you might have wheels as fast as you can get to Wangaratta from Yarrawonga...

You're better off using polish called green stuff (or something like that) on new stuff (particulary on soft material like alloy) it is no where near as harsh as autosol. Just a quick tip!! :)

Muzzard
17-04-2005, 10:45 AM
Brasso is abrasive but not as rough as Autosol and doesnt have a waxy after film, and also good on powder coated surfaces if used sparingly.
The best I have ever used for alloy is Mothers branded polish from the U.S.
Very expensive as polishes go, but certainly a very good product also 8) ...

Flash
17-04-2005, 10:55 AM
I've used brasso in a bottle before which was very gentle aswell. I've now got this brasso in a tube which I haven't tried too much yet. Looks good on my YZ subfarme though!!! :)

Nice one! That husky sounds sweet Flash - I could hear it over my bike and the thumping beats on my ipod. Lately the only riding I get is to and from work, so if window lickers are gonna hog the lanes, I'm gonna split 'em... on the back wheel (great way to stop your handlebars from hitting mirrors).

VSMR TShirts are good for racing in,
Bashing your neighbours in,
Drinking piss with your mates,
Going to a mates funeral,
Going to another mates wedding in,
And a shit load of illegal activities I cannot go into the specifics of on an open forum,
But they are bloody handy ;)

But the tar still gets under them and into your skin like Rob said.

I was out at ringwood this morning getting a tyre changed over when what did I see roll up but a new looking XR650R, with an akro pipe on it and redwing stickers. Can't be too many of them i thought, and sure enough it turns out to be Nick's bike that had just been bought by its happy new owner :) Had a chat with him and passed on the details for the site so hopefully he'll be along soon to say hello ;)

I saw that Kawasaki 650 motard I mentioned on the previous page again today. It's the one I see at work. It was parked outside Ducati/KTM in Richmond. It has a nice homemade screen on it with a big netrider sticker on it.

$10 to join a forum,
Not me

All the same,
To moderate a forum by policing peoples posts as to content is basically wrong and against the expression of free speech.
I have in the past been guilty of just this and some may say hypocritical.
I rest the decision firmly on the basis that its in the best interest, that is the express purpose of being a reliable information portal to Supermoto/Supermotard issues in Australia with a minimum of nonsensical banter.
There is some sure,
Ash cant help himself after a few 'tubes' but it remains usually unless there is derogeratory comment likely to offend another member in particular.
I sure dont do it as often as NR seem to boot or ban members

You pay a fee to join a forum for what,
A promotion pack and the chance to have your posts removed and booted :?

Mid this afternoon on my way to get a lamb souva I saw an XR400 Motard at the Corner of Toorak Rd & Williams Road. At last, I thought they were an urban myth! I kept my distance, I didn't want my KTM to get an STD. ;)

Just after that I saw some hooligan with tatts hanging out of a phat black & slammed Forrester giving me the finger. Very Nice ride Markee... :D

Had red 3 spoke cast wheels on it and very new tyres.
The rider truly was a ghost rider, he/she wasn't there.

Caught this bloke at the lights down South Melbourne the other day... wanted to know if I knew anything bout TT and if he needed leathers. Told him to get up there and say hello and have a ride, with or without leathers.

I suppose if your thinking about knocking off other peoples shit all the time.
You been working for the bank too long mate

A thief will take your bike just because they can.
Doesn't matter where or when,
If your silly enough to not take the right precautions.

Bikes are stolen to order and there are some people out there with 1/2 a brain that will come across this and know where to pick up bike from really easily.

The world is a nasty place and you have to think like a crim to beat them.

If I was the owner of a bike 'ghost rider'ed" on this forum, and the bike was nicked from the listed location. I would be sending my lawyers in to re-coupe the bike's value from VSMR.

So do you a) want to be sued. b) charged for aiding criminal activities. Its your choice, I don't give a shit if you don't want to take my advice.

BTW, 2 guys in the back of a van are all thats needed to take a bike and unless you locked to a solid object, then you have no hope. To coin a movie title. "Gone in 60 seconds". Although, its probably quicker than that!

Sue who for what.
Its called on the balance of probability of getting into court let alone a win so if you have that mentality to start with I suppose you should maybe find an alternative area to ride your bike because TT will be obviously a target for both thieves and those of course like you seem to be a little lending to the readiness for litigation :?
Oh yeah dont go to any racing, park your bike on the lawn while you wash it or anything either, someone might see it and tell a thief ..
What a jerk

+1 again Jove ;)

I look to see if anyone is following me home when I trailer any bike home and if there is some one one my tail near home, I run a few different streets to see if they still follow.

If you look at the facts of dirt bike thefts, they are from homes. How do they know where to go? Sit out the front of a track and follow your chosen bike home. Rock up the next day and take it.

If u dont want to listen and minimize the chance of your bike being lifted, thats ur problem.

out of sight, out of mind.

Sibbo

True, but then you have to drive a VAN!!! ARGH!!!

Then people put stickers all over the van to tell everyone what they have inside. *slaps head*

I would suggest the major issue with dirtbikes is the pricks who insure them knowing full well they will cop a better payout when they sell it to their dickhead mate for $1500 and pocket your cheque outta the mail as well Ash.
Wake up mate they are stolen by their friggin' owners most of the time

I know that mate don't worry! I have tried to explain this to the more senior managment! I have put an argument through that we look at the sale prices not a friging book! (on dirt bikes only)

I did a u-turn in front of a black DRZ (i think) on cheltnam road near the new eastling overpass this morning on my wow fabulous gpx250. I could have waved, but i sure they would laugh.
