View Full Version : Black Spur
Well I finally did it... and it went something like this...
Got to bed nice an early on Saturday night to rise at 5am on Sunday and pack the ute up so I could get the spur to myself as it was to be my first outing to the Black Spur.
Arrived in Healesville at 7am. After grabbing a coffee from the Bakery, got my gear on and bike out of the ute and set off.
After about 10 min  . I didnt realise it was THIS GOOD!!!

This ride was absolutely blowing my mind! To add to the state of bliss, the first two (of four) runs, I didnt see another car or bike - had it all to myself. This was good as it was my first time and I needed to build the confidence. I then decided to do the run up Lake Mountain. There was a bit of crap on the road so too it easier... luck cos I came across some bark which may have been disastrous if I was goin faster... refer picture below.
The photo shows, were I actually stopped after braking hard.

After Lake Mountain, did another two runs of the Spur before, sitting exhausted at the bakery destroying a steak and mushroom pie.
The last two runs were interesting, I got to ride and overtake quite a few sports bikes. Dont get me wrong, there were a few I couldnt catch. But hey it was a good feeling when I did.
So it was time to get home... Only to remember there was a group ride down south in the afternoon. Quickly dumped some gear off and put the leathers back on. Rode down to Arthurs Seat (for the first time). Cant remember how many times I did the ascent/descent, but I think it was about 6.
The group (mostly sports bikes) kindly waited as I tore up and down the mountain.
Was a quick burn around the country side before dinner and then home via the freeway (That sucked).
Anyway, I slept very well last night. And the Tard needs a service after doing somewhere round 500K yesterday.
Cheers,
JB
PS, sorry I didnt tell anyone bout this outing, was a last minute decision.
PPS, Does anyone else get a perverted sense of satisfaction to just disrupt the serene sounds of nature with a roaring Motard Exhaust?? Really made me chuckle.

How come you did not just ride over the felled tree? They look like stutters to me!
Sounds like a good ride.
Dont get me wrong, I didnt stop for long. Did ride over, just not at 100km/h.

It would of been the best to bait roadbike squids, come tearing round the corner with them following only to watch them get a bit loose and barked up! hahaha

Where did you get those stickers?
Numbers are stock numbers,
"Pleasure" is a German Snowboard Mag
Rim Tape is stock from any MC Shop
Number Backings are "One Industries" $20 off ebay
But I'm guessing your more interested in the Red Bull Kit.
After seeing the Red Bull - KTM - HMC bikes on this site
http://www.hmcracing.com/
(note the guy on his ass in the background, and the position of the berg riders in relation to the KTM's - sorry had to stir)
, I needed that kit, unfortunately couldnt find the exact ones, the nearest I could find was from:
http://www.motoskinzfx.co.uk/
Ill warn you now, the pound is not kind and neither is postage. The site doesnt show everything and he mixes and matches stuff to your requirements.

And now you had a taste of some twisties,
Come up here and ride the States best ones with me
You know the roads, they just grip better without the snow cover ;)
Oh Yea, definately up for that Muzz.
Pick anyone of those mountains and it would be awesome.
Just gotta get off my ass and organise some spare time to get up there. But Ill do my best (before Queens B-Day - Opening Weekend).

If I get the chance to get down soon, maybe do a morning run over the Spurs with you mate.
Theres a few good roads around the Dandenongs that are a real blast with some nice jumps thrown in off the nature strips
sounds good Muzz,
what bout this...
my next outing...

Oh yeah! I certainly do. ;)
It sound's like you had a blast, those are some of the best roads you can ride just out of the city. It's especially good at that time of the morning with no traffic...
Arthurs seat is also wicked.
Especially if you get a few mates up there and have a 'dead engine' race.
Get to the top, turn off your motor and see who get's to the bottom first. :)
Cheers,
Juz.

#-o Where you from anyway, boy?

I hope this helps.
BTW, the number of times I have driven past your place with a spare spot on the trailer on the way to one of the spurs is huge.
Zulu,
Start in Healesville, B360 out and then a right along the C512 to Marysville. Most of that is what is known as the Black Spur.
Then if you want you can keep goin, turn right out of Marysville, then theres are road a few k down the track going left up Lake Mountain or keep going to what I think is a long way round to do the Reefton Spur and back through Warburton.
Not sure if Reefton Spur is as good or maybe better.

Oh that Black Spur... though thats what you meant
Jorn's ride sounded Ace, especially the early start before the masses, I might do it this weekend if there are no takers for the TT.
Are there any petrol garages up that way? not sure how far I can go on a tank and dont fancy getting stuck in the middle of nowhere.

When you are at the cumberlang junction, comming from marysville, you have a fork in the road. Turn left to woods point. The road turns to dirt, but if you follow it, for a while, it will turn to the best tarmack you have ever ridden, but it takes a while to get to......hehehehe BTW, take some water with you and some food, plus some steel undies to keep the locals from "harming" you when you run out of juice!
Theres no juice after Marysville until....?
And the one in Marysville didnt open until 10am last Sunday... made me wait a whole 15 minutes. Thats 15 minutes of Spur no one can ever give back to me!
I filled up twice up there in the morning... after my ride down to Arthurs Seat, I filled up 6 times for the whole day. (and that was with trailering the bike to Healesville and back).

If no one is going to Sth Morang, I might stay with you, just to keep you company, so you dont cry.
There is juice up there, but none of the good stuff. I would pack a drum of your pre mixed finest before you go (I do).
..... plus some steel undies to keep the locals from "harming" you when you run out of juice!
Deliverance?

Utter bastards.
A twin Spurs run and I'm stuck on a stand waffling shit and answering dumb questions from drunk bike riders who are wearing full length driz-a-bones on Sunday morning.
Utter, utter bastards.

Warburton.
You can cut laps over Reefton and use the two servo's as filling points.
Then back over the Black spur and there is a servo just as the Black Spur finishes if you are heading towards Melbourne. It's on the LHS and has premium.
It's a good place to rest for 5 minutes and let the adrenaline subside. ;)

Go the Reefton over TT. ;)
165 bends in just 18 kilometers. Made by the god's of motorcycling.
Reefton doesn't seem to be on google earth as I was going to try and post a screen dump of it.
I'm going to uninstall google earth now, that's just not on, it's useless.

Yep, we can take you on a fun loop - up through the st andrews road, over to the myers or chump creek roads, over to healsville and through the black spur, then up and over marysville and the reefton, then ash will probably want to go and play in the dirt in the back of warby while I sulk on the side of the road :lol2:

How about a Spurs ride next weekend on Sunday? Nice and early.
I much prefer the open road to the TT track ANY day of the week.
Is it worthy of a rides post? Who's in?...
