The CR500e's are expensive, as they are in really high demand. I test rode 2 and made 2 offers, but other morons were willing to pay more than me :(

Best of luck with getting one.

What's the diff between the CR500 & CR500E? Don't tell me the "E" has electric start. 2 strokes only need kickstart, unless you can't for some reason. Fair enough. Do they both vibrate as much as each other? Do they both handle as weirdly as each other?

To be fair, I only rode an unsorted one for a quick trail ride. I preferred it on the tar (Old Warby Highway). Thought is might make an interesting motard, if properly sorted.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but I thought the 'E' stood for enduro, as the last lot of CR500's were road registerable.

E is for enduro!

But don't be too sure that big 2 strokes need electric starts. try kicking a modified 500 or even a husky 360. It is not easy!!

Thanks boys. That makes sense. E for enduro. You're right, they were the ADR models for full reg. I once had a KTM300 2 stroke. It was easy to kickstart. I'll take your word on the others.

A lot of guys put the low comp head on the 360's because they are so hard to kick!

You can get a pressure bleed off thingy for modded 500s, so you can kick them over. They tend to brake kick starters!

When you can kick over a 2 stroke easily, its clagged!

E stands for detuned and smogged up ADR compliant model...
Change the muffler back and a few carb settings...

Up the comp, clean up the ports, shorten and big bore the muffler and change the carby and its nearly ready to go.Once I get one that is.

E is the Enduro ADR model.

200 odd were registerable in 2001-2002 when they phased them out.

All owners would certainly have gotten rid of the throttle slide restrictor, header pipe restrictor, and the CRE muffler by now. They feel liek a 250 with the ADR stuff still fitted.

I have a rekluse clutch in mine, and it is the ultimate reliable trailbike/dirtbike. I also sent the barrel to america to get a decompression valve fitted.

Give it a miss if your after a motard bike tho - Not really suitable in my opinion.

Good luck finding one for sale - they are nearly unobtainium in Perth.
