I'm after a clean (no rust or sploges) header pipe. Stock, aftermarket, i dont really mind.
key element: Cheapness.
I'd love to buy a full system, but have to many of those bloody "sensible" (read BORING) things to spend $$ on.
I've got a fairly open acerbis can at the moment & the stock header is in bad nic, makes the whole bike look shithouse.
(save the "but all DRZs look shithouse" calls guys, i know, i know  )
Cheers!

nothin wrong with a tarded up drz mate !!!!! can't u just get ur headers annodised or something, might be easier. You could also get the whole system painted black. easy to keep clean cause it hides the dirt

hmm. excelent idea, hadnt thought of that.
would adonising be the go?
see what i mean here. the bloke before me would trailride then just leave damp mud krusted on there, its pretty rooted.

Looks fine to me.
Get some heat wrap, no more rust!
wheel cleaner and eblow grease will improve it alot. spray the headers let them soak for a bit then scrub with steel/fine wet and dry sand paper. or do nothing and not worry about havin a clean bike. the last one is both the cheapest and best solution to this problem
Juice from on here may soon have a brand new stocky available for sale. I'll let him know.

cheers for that devo, might have a crack with some wheel cleaner in the meantime.
Wire brush and a can of white knight "pot belly black" spray paint from bunnings. It's made to go on pot belly stoves so should be able to handle the heat.

Fuck all that wire brush and detol crap, that sounds like too much work - like Tom says get some pot belly black or engine black and spray away :D
personaly i would just paint it
Rust converter works quite well, then paint it black.

Forget any manual labour- SANDBLAST and then Pot belly black or hi temp paint for engines ,brakes etc. Supercheap auto have a few different choices

Wire brush the bulk of the crap off that will come off, and then with the pipe hot spray it will generous amounts of CRC, and wipe vigorously while its still wet ;)

cheers. probably a stupid question, but What does the Rust converter actually do? i cant immagine it converting rust back into shiny metal....what does it convert it into? cupcakes? rust powder? brown goo?
Cupcakes
You brush off the loose stuff then apply the liquid which is phosphoric? acid based and then it converts the remaining oxide to a black coloured stuff - Iron Phosphate perhaps? I used Killrust on some old twinshock springs and some headers, It provided a good base for painting.

You can't anodise it unless it's alloy, you can not anodise steel.
You could get it HPC coated which has it's benfits with heat, it's like wrapping the pipe in that heat bandage stuff which I have seen that Sibbo uses and I did on my old Gixxer 7/11. There is a mob in Leongatha that does HPC treating and now they do it in a range of flashy colors and it looks pretty kewla and they claim performance gains. The other option is ceramic coating it but either/or will cost you a bit.
Elbow grease is the cheapest answer as stated above. ;)
Cheers,
Juz.
