If anyone has an original xbox kicking around that they want rid of now that the kids are settled in to the 360 then let me know. I'm looking to pay around $150 for a basic unit (same as what they go for on ebay).
Don't need anything fancy or even any games, just basic unit with controllers and TV RCA connections, dvd remote an advantage. Already being mod chipped would also be an advantage :)
what r u up to neill ? Have u been watching weird science and attempting to make a robot girlfriend again

Again? 8-[
Nope, looking to make up a remote media centre to go along with my living room htpc. Just need a basic unit which has to be chipped so it can run XBMC. I'm going to get my house cabled with cat5e and run a gigabit router (they are bulk cheap now) which means with a cheap xbox I can stream recorded video into my bedroom :)
Now all I need is the 1TB RAID5 array, but hard drive prices haven't come down at all in the last 12 months  :punch:

once u get "it" send me some pics. "it" won't be able to talk will it, i hope not

If you need a hand Neil let me know.
I just finshed one yesterday with 200Gb HDD and Xecuter3, new front panel with LCD and loaded XBMC2 and all the shit. I have heaps of files.
I can't do without mine. I have it connected to a wireless bridge.
I'll post a pic soon, it hardly resembles an xbox anymore!

This is my one. I hardly use it for gaming any more.
Transfer video's and music to it over wireless.
I have not bought a blank DVD in years!
XBMC rocks...

Xbox Media Centre.
www.xbmc.de from memory or google it.
Transforms your xbox once modded to a multimedia PC that plays just about anything you throw at it.
I stream alot of music and movies wirelessly straight from my server or from the HDD in the xbox itself.
Fantastic stuff!

Cool :) I'm just going to do your basic mod and xbmc on mine, as all I really want it to do is stream media from my media centre PC in the living room. Having said that my HTPC is going to need some disk space upgrading soon, and 1TB of raid0+1 or raid5+controller is looking expensive

The hardware is getting cheaper and cheaper though which is good.
I bought another 250Gb SATA2 drive yesterday for next to SFA.

I bought a 2 300gig sata drives a year ago for $110 each - they seem to have gone up in price if anything since then :?
Anyways, I got my xbox softmodded now with krayzies softmod and xbmc loaded. It seems to play most of my media files over the network with the exception of the digital tv recorded from channels 10, 9 and 2, which it plays but with a lot of corruption and sound/video de-sync :( Wonder if you can replace codecs in xbmc.....?

What version of XBMC are you loaded with and are the digital TV files recorded in transport stream (.TS) format or some proprietory format from a branded recorder?
The later versions of XBMC such as XBMC2 and the CVS builds including distro's like Bling Bling and Tech can play them not a problem at all.
I have them here if you want me to FTP them to you or the like.
Cheers,
Juz.

2.0.1 was the latest distro I used. It's playing .ts files now (got sick of trying to make dvr-ms work) that are recorded from my HTPC running webscheduler. Seems to work pretty good, now I just need to try and find someone to wire up my house :?
