I have decided to up the power stakes and chase a bigger bike.
Would like to give the advantage to someone here first obviously if they are looking for a small bore well built and serviceable motard for either first motard or urban blasting.
My WRF has as most of you know quite a few kms on the chassis components but are still in serviceable order and mostly unmarked or polished.
The engine was rebuilt with a new crankshaft assembly and all bearings, seals etc to rebuild it to within specification 12 months ago and the bike has done quite a few track days as well.
Always meticulously maintained and serviced,
Comes with a range of both aftermarket and Yamaha stock items, including whole sets of blue plastics YZF/WRF combinations, hour meter/tacho, and filters, exhaust etc.
No dirt wheels...
PM for info or you can see the bike yourself at the GPTC/VSMR Track Days
and speak to me then.
Sorry spare engine sold...
Most recent picture for those who dont know the bike.

This mootard with current pilot creams the lot of us to be honest. :)

Fastest cow i've ever seen :D
I'm pretty sure I wasn't laughing at the mighty KDX, it must have been the lumpy aftermarket pipe!
Anyway, keeping this on topic - I'd love that bike (does it come with the riding skills?) I can't justify another bike in the shed at this time though. It's the cleanest WRF I have ever seen.

For anyone who hasn't seen this bike, muzz is quite possibly the most anal person I have ever met when it comes to bike maintenance and the WRF is a true reflection of this :)

How many bickies do you want for it Muzz?
Packet of ginger nuts and 1/2 a pac of mint slices? (sorry, cant help myself, have to be puerile).

Most definately the cleanest bike I've ever seen. Here is another pic from 2 weeks before that one, and we all saw him actually ride the thing in between. Hi-Res image linked so you can zoom in on the detail for yourself. (beware 2MB)

I've got a big enough back yard to agist it on, bloody big orchard just up the road too  If i had the money i'd make it mine
fuck thats clean, if i seen my bike down can u make mine that clean ?
what are u using axle sliders btw ?
Muzzard
14-12-2006, 06:59 PM
You ride it Jove,
You clean it
The sliders are made from internally threaded polymer rod from the local engineering supplies and stuck onto a piece of threaded each end 10mm mold steel rod.
One on the front is bolted direct to the axle end with a stud, the other side bolted to a profiled plate bolted under the axle pinch bolts.
More for the looks and just in case.
I hate falling off.
Scratches my bike. ;)

lol just a hint when you link to this website on ebay although its a great idea and all the first thing people see is the bike doing a wheelie on the home page, lol. unless offcourse your trying to sell it as a stunter.

I didn't see the bit in the bible that said I or others couldn't wheelie. :)
If ye olde WR 2fiddy can pop the front up then it's got some stick then innit?
This bike is not for a girls blouse.
Are you making people fill out application forms to buy it Muzz?
I can vet them if you like. ;)

If it is similar to a crf 250, it should be nice and smooth. A perfect for a new rider, as it would be very easy to ride, cos its not going to bite you if you get it a bit wrong, like a biger bike will do.

Hey Muzzard.
Tried sending you a PM, but it was coming up with garbage errors.
Firstly, is interstate transport avaliable?
Secondly, Is the bike fully legal, except slicks, because If sent here I think it requires an inspection to be registered
and third, in your honest opinion, do you think this would be a reliable daily rider.
Thanks mate, I'm interested in it, we'll just have to see how it goes.

So what would a 96 model TL1000R with 30000kms, pretty well unmarked bodywork and a pair of Yoshi mufflers be worth you blokes :?:
Would/Should I swap it for my 2003 WRF250R with high mileage but clean chassis and running gear, near new engine, and all the Yamaha bits I have :?:
Before you even start with shit about Tupperware etc.

The TL-R's are a bit of a tank compared to the TL-S, even without the spaceship bodywork. But as angus says, might be easier to convert to cash.
What year and how many k's on the TL? They do seem to keep their value pretty well, all the ones on the trading post at the moment are at least $8k, but there's only 12 listed aus wide so maybe not a great sample...
TL-Rs have a bit of a cult following (a bit like motards but for a different reason!) and as Angus said it would probably be easier to convert into cash.
I like 'em they look big and chunky but that's because they are!
Nothing says GANGSTA like a TLR (except an escalade with 22"+ chromes and dropped on its guts).
I like the look of em saw a nice blue one in the city this morning, double bubble reflective visor.
Pauls right its bit of a following, I compare it to the busa contingent.
Not sure how they ride, bit bulky ive been told.
I think theres a well priced one in Melbourne at the moment, not sure what year but its about 6-7K, ill find out more and post.

Thanks for the input boys.
Its a really clean example (As if I would ride a piece of shit anyway, being the anal bastard I am)
Its chunky alright and thats the appeal.
I like the TL-R and like you said Jorn,
Its a cult bike too as far as I am concerned and the lack of them on the ground for sale would also be indicative of that.
Sure they are a big reasonably heavy sportbike.
But one with some 'cred' and not too shabby on performance in the hands of someone with some bike skill.
Pillion capable is nice if I choose to own it, coupled with Interstate capabilities at the drop of a hat to see one my daughters, and pick up the other from Melbourne a shit load cheaper than the ute.
Will look at / ride the bike early next week so that will be the tell ;)
Coincidentally my 21 year old son blew the engine again on the little CR125 I had intended to convert for some track motard action if I took on the TL-R, so it might be even fresher by the time it gets onto TT with some little fat red wheels :)

Doesnt look like the fella will want to part with his TLR under my terms so the Mootard is still in the verandah.
Its not so much he wont accept the motard as a trade but he doesnt want to take a dive on his TLR that he paid way too much for 6 months ago.
He will be back no doubt when more people tell him,
'Nice bike, worth $7250'
Would like to move the WRF all the same.
Still no-one looking for an ADR fully prepared motard,
Possible first licence holder

I think the TLR would be perfect for the odd interstate trip, but when push comes to shove, the chassis and rear shock just wont perform and then there's the weight factor of the porky beast as well. I guess it depends on how hard you want to push it.
Having ridden a couple, I wasn't overly impressed, (massive amounts of clutch/throttle to lift the front skywards) but that boomin v-twin note can and will cloud any reasonable doubt everytime!
And like you say...In the right hands......(with a few tweaks)
Wobbly

Methinks if you want a TL ... get a TL-S and replace the rear shock....

30-04-2007, 09:31 PM
Hi Mate,
Seat height with 0mm sag = 910mm.
Yes I have road tyres for the bike,
They are currently fitted and there are some slicks, a couple of ADR compliant tyres, a long range tank, stock pipe, spare piston, rings, valve stem oil seals, assorted plastics, spare headlights, tailights, indicators, tubes, and anything else Yamaha that I find in the shed.
Those Sherco's are right off and very nicely finished.

i saw it in TAREE MOTORCYCLES in NSW, the bloke who owns the shop, Glenn, is using it as a track bike, he used to have a sherco 4.5i enduro but wanted to have a go at motard. he won the AUS champs a few years ago in road racing and competes in the BEARS class on a norton now i think? pretty quick on a bike and a top bloke too !
they also have a new xr400 motard in there but it looks cheap and nasty to me.

haha...ok...
btw, is motard a good commuter? how is the fuel consumption like? and maintenance?
should i get the wr250x or a used KTM?
I am looking for a fun, cheap and reliable commuter... had a 2 stroke 135cc before... then a 50cc scooter  ...
then a 100cc scooter and a 883 harley at the same time... sold the harley (too heavy) and riding the 100cc scooter now...
Commuting around 40km everyday...
How stable and reliable is a 250 motard on freeway?
Duke III might be a better choice? is Duke a motard too?
OwenS
23-05-2008, 11:19 AM
In terms of commuting in the city i cant think of a better commuter than a motard. Good handling, brakes, suspension, field of view, comfort.
The new 250x is fuel injected, 4 valve so maintenance will be pretty low. The 250f models are more racey and so will need a lot more maintenance.
I had the ktm640sm before the yamaha, ultra reliable. Personally not as fun cos it was a bit too much engine for me to begin on.
I think the 250x would be the way to go imo.
The suzuki drz400sm as well, though i dont really like them that much.
Come on guys? Help a brother out!

thanks guys!
being a poor bloke, so I cannot have more than one bike... this makes it really hard to decide what to get and keep... true?
My main reason for getting a motard is daily commuting "VERY ACTIVELY"...
Current commuter is a Yamah Aerox 100 scooter... zippy, fun but slow (top - 80km/h)... rev to redline all time...
have to have a fun and fast one as this is my only mean of transport... beside my pushbike. :D

cool...
what I have read about maintenance on the Aprilia... kind of put me off a bit :P .... but then that's Apes....
ok... more questions...
would i be able to keep up with the traffic on freeway?
would it kill the engine if i have it doing 120km/h on freeway for 3 hours non-stop? or it kills my butt first?!
as i mentioned before, this is my only mean of transport... although i do have a 25 years old exa turbo... but it is not registered and not going :P
Stretch, would you take my aerox100 as trade-in? :)
OwenS
23-05-2008, 10:28 PM
You can always change the gearing.
tingo
23-05-2008, 10:55 PM
hmm...
so, the stock gearing won't do the freeway for 3 hours?
how comfy is the seat?
OwenS
23-05-2008, 11:03 PM
Well im not sure what the stock gearing is. But you could always get it then get a new sprocket, they are like what, $25?
If youre doing long distance commutes you might want a bigger engine than a 250. But its all a trade off, bigger engine means higher weight which means less flickability which is pretty much what motards are about....well i like that aspect anyway.
why on earth would u want to ride 3hrs on a highway??????
if thats something u do all the time a 250 won't be suitable and probably not any motard except maybe a 950 ktm

Wear some padded bike shorts under your pants and stand up on the pegs every now and again with a break every couple hours and it wont be so bad..

as long as the ride is not BORING... i don't care how my butt feels... haha
almost bought the 2008 Z1000 last month, but i pulled out last minute...
not really into the speed on straight... although it is pretty good in corners too but still prefer something lighter.
my aerox 100 is fun... but kind of upset me on the straight... cut off at 8500rpm... 85kn/h only :( seeing the cars overtaking me one by one... even some very old corollas or barinas...
would there be a 450x coming out soon? that would be perfect? :D
