View Full Version : Pre Track Day Gathering Friday 15th Dec 06

Muzzard
21-11-2006, 11:00 PM
The last track day as a group will be on Saturday 16 Dec 06 and there is a few coming into town over that weekend too.
I am also coming down on the Friday afternoon the 15th and wondered if anyone wanted to get together for a quick blast and a cuppa/drink somewhere
talk shit and discuss last minute strategies as to how you are gonna whip us old farts the following day.
Some fellas dont get much chance to make the Saturdays meets and maybe a good chance for them if we can co-ordinate ourselves to one friggin' pub and because I dont drink anymore I dont care where.
Must be high profile of course, and well lit, ample footpath and chicks for Sibbo.
Thoughts on it being a regular fortnightly thing same weekend as the track days.
And whos coming to this one on the 15th December firstly, and would support something like this as a meeting point for all social activities secondly :?:

Mark
You wanna start this off mate.
You may have an interest in here.

I be there, just as long as it is a nice central place or bayside so I dont have ot travel.

So many places, so many choices, yet none of them have much foot path space, except for the pub down the road from me.

I'm there. I'll do some recon and find a place with plenty of space.
Around the edge of the city would be better on a friday depending on what time we're looking at?

friday sounds like a plan ,but a pub down the road from yours hay , you know you will end up with everyone sleeping on your floor

Guys theres a motorcycle meet point down Southbank every Friday night in front of the Bear Brass Bar and Cafe every Friday night. I think its organised through a few different forums, but dominated by one large one.
Theres everything from a pubs, cafes, takeaway to restaraunts less than 50m from where everyone lingers/loiters out the front.
Bikes can be ridden on to SB boulevard (very slowly to keep the retailers happy) from Southgate Ave. Southgate ave is the one with the 7/11 on the corner, comes off City Rd. Where Southgate meets the Boulevard (The Pedestrian zone) turn right and you about 80 meters up you'll see where the bikes are parked.

Gets pretty busy down there, but its a good chance to chat to other ppl and check out some bikes. I venture down there every now and again. Be great not to be the only Tarder down there.

Let me know if this is what your after. Otherwise I can suggest plenty of other places around city/bayside.

Cheers,

Moto

PS, Theres plenty of foot traffic for everyone (Sibbo) to gander at.

I normally pick my boy up from school on Friday and have custody of him over the weekend, but given this much notice I'm sure I'll be able to swing something, and I'll be there with bells on... All you had to do was mention the pub... :)

Muzzard
22-11-2006, 12:08 PM
Not to can the prospect Moto, because its areal good idea, but I wonder about the security aspect and I only say this from media reports we get here that doesnt really paint the Southbank District with any great praise.
Mostly reports of unprovoked assaults and robberies.
I dont live down there anymore so just asking...

Brett, You wanna be part of this motard thing or not?
It means having to go out of your way now and again, like the 580KM round trips I do for you to be able ride at South Morang mate.

I think we should be able to find something pretty central and its legal to park a motorcycle on any footpath in Victoria so long as it is within a metre of the kerb and not deemed an obstruction to pedestrians and motorists alighting from vehicles..
There is a bar/pub across the road from where the Spirit of Tasmania docks, and a large paved area out the front, have only been wheelstanding past and didnt have time to look as I went past in the traffic, but seemed OK from the outside.
Does anyone know the one I mean?
Sort of got a street going up the side but might be blocked off like so many down there, and a large paved area there.
If you are familiar with this place, this is the sort of surrounds I am looking for.

Now tell me Moto,
Just like Southbank right?

:yadda:
I know you go to extreem lengths, but you're you and I am slack. ;)

South Melbourne as you describe Muzz is nice, but also next door to Port melbourne, which is govt. housing and a bit dodgy. So it is probably no worse than the city.

I know the pub you are thinking of, not been in, but it will be a bit $$(might not be though!). There is a derro pub down the road that has um...$3.80 schooners all day every day or is it more/less? But I would rather drink at the posh place, cos I am a snob :D but cheep beer....argh....the conflict I face.

Anyway, before I go off the rails, that area is good for me and will make a nice motard by the bay photo.

Guys guys guys.... whats all the concerns about theives, derros and bandicoots?

Southbank is fine. Pretty up market if you ask me. If its a warm night you can expect 80+ bikes, owners of all backgrounds. The bikes are always under watchfull eyes. Its a pretty good atmosphere.

I live in Port Melbourne, (can see the Spirit from my balcony). Theres restaurants right in front. You may be referring to the London which is on the roundabout. Then theres the Pier (cnr bay and beach) opposite being the local (a lot of chopper tour groups stop here), opposite again is the exchange.

Either location is fine, just depends on the atmosphere your after.

If you worried about the bikes, my opinion is Southbank is the safest. Just cos theres always someone watching it. Plus theres heaps of room to park.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hmmm...so if we drink in port/south melb, we can then go to your place when everything closes and continue to drink until daylight :D

If your worried bout places closing, ill show you places that dont close. But then you may want to be concerned about the crowd.

All good suggestions, but a couple of points...

the Southbank one can be a bit cliquey with the Netrider crowd but everyone loves a Motard so they all want to talk. Absolutely no worries about safety there (or anywhere else near the city in my opinion).

The London (opposite the spirit, just on the roundabout?) is a bit posh and pricey but it's got one of the best views (clients and secenery!).

Cleos on Fitzroy St is a known Bike meeting place but generally only on a Saturday, on a Friday we should have it to ourselves AND it's opposite Albert park motard track! plenty of footpath parking and very visual - I think it's only a coffee place though. Could be a good place to start off the night?

Remember it's a Friday night in summer and the Pubs will be quite busy (especially the bayside suburbs) .

Muzzard
22-11-2006, 01:51 PM
Moto,
Like Isaid mate, just what we hear up here.
You live there thats why I'm asking.
If you think Southbank is OK then all good by me.
I dont drink so I'm only there for the bikes and socialise with you retards.
Remembering we want to use this spot as a kick off for social rides in future and the ease of finding the location.
Thats the reason I thought of the place where the Spirit docks, and I'm unfamiliar with Southbank.
My 2 bobs mate thats all.

The first comment pretty spot on i just didnt want to advertise another forum, when I mentioned it being dominated by a large one. They are all pretty open to all people there, its not like its a netrider only crowd.... I know a few of em (ssshhh theres at least two of em on this forum ;) ), and yea they like seein the tards and chattin bout em...

Not having been, but Saturday night Cleos is also by NR I think . Plus I think its Cafe Royz or something now.

Muzz,
No worries, im not taking any offence or anything. I know its hard too chose when your from out of town or been gone a while. Just want to give you the best/accurate advice possible.

Cheers Guys,

Good point about the pubs and the crowds with summer.
So should we look at Cafe Royz?
Wont be too many of us wanting to drink and ride I wouldnt think.
But all the same its a pleaser for some, and still not be over the limit
so shouldn't be discounted I suppose.
Wherever we go will be new for us anyway so it may
not stand on too many dicks to go with Southbank either.

Looking at the net,
Its the London Hotel that I was referring to where the Spirit docks, and would still be OK even when flat out.
Heaps of space outside on the pavers...

Hey Zulu
Are you going to bring the mighty 300? Or haven't you sorted the cold sieze stuff?

If you haven't I have an idea, I race (when permitted) a water cooled 125 go kart and these will cold sieze. I have to spend a bit of time warming it up before races and it wares the shit out of my brakes. But what I have noticed is that a lot of guys are running a sort of thermostat between the engine and radiator and it keeps the motor above the min temp. COuld be good for you so you can really enjoy the "Street Motard". Just a thought!

I would like to meet early, like 7 or so, so I can get home by 11 to load the bike and go to sleep, so I can get up bright and early to match my arch rival, who will have had more track time (the excuses are starting already!).

Location: Close to home, so I dont wear the berg out too much and so its not too long a push home if it stops

Muzzard
24-11-2006, 11:37 AM

I gotta leave Wangaratta at about 4 pm so you might
be be there before me,
I woulda thought 8-8.30pm more reasonable?

Sibbo
24-11-2006, 11:45 AM
I am just down the road, so I am pretty flexible with times, just that I will be out of there by the set time.

8.30 is good by me, if I factor in the number of times I will be pulled over for wheelies/stoppies/hooning I will leave home at 7 and get there at 8.30!

Now, location? Just pick a spot and be done with it, cos otherwise the women on here wont be able to make up their minds...."no, I want to go here, no thats like soooo winter 2006". People need to be told what they are doing, I feel the world works better that way.

Hey Zulu
Are you going to bring the mighty 300? Or haven't you sorted the cold sieze stuff?

Nah, siezing the bike again would be a nice problem, I promised the family a weekend away, that was supposed to be on the 24/25th November, but managed to convince them (In-laws included) that the 16th December was a better day so I could get to the trackday(yesterday) unfortunatelly I was somewhat hasty in agreeing that the 16th was a good alternative, and I had to make another elaborate excuse for the 16th, it went down like the preverbial lead balloon

So, any mention of bikes or bike related activities falls upon deaf ears at the moment, and is likely to for some time into the new year :? so no, I will not be joining you lot on the 15th, or I'll be arriving at the GPTC on the 16th without any bollocks ;)

Have a good time though wont you :phbt:

Im assuming we are all happy with the regular bike meet point out the front of the Bear Brass Cafe/Bar....

If you riding down City rd - thats what Bay St becomes heading away from beach keep going past the Eureka tower and turn left down Southgate Ave - theres a mini 7/11 on the corner in a big building. (If you go under the Arts Center Bridge - youve gone to far). Then ride straight through the roundabout, then youll get to the pedestrian zone. Turn right down the pedestrian zone and ride (walking pace) about 80 m and youll see a heap of bikes (parked on your left).

Just want to confirm the plan for Friday Night.

8.15pm Meet Fed Square
8.30pm Ride to Southbank - I'd like to suggest a quick (10 minute detour) via Redlines Racetrack - Bolte On and Off ramp.

We can ride down Flinders, take the beatiful Left Hand Sweeper around the events center, jump on the Highway for 500 m, on to the Bolte to experience on of Melbournes finest Left Handers, over the Bolte Bridge, exit and enter Bolte going opposite direction for an exit via an equally satisfying Right Hander then straight to Southbank via, Willi Rd.

Only if you guys are keen.

Cheers,

This course is as easy as you want to make it. Just nice long turns, you can do it at 60km/h or (theoretically) 130km/h. Plus its an awesom view of the city, going over the bolte at this time of evening.

Guys to be honest I just don't like having a pillion, in fact I kind of hate it.
That's another reason I liked the 450 so much. It is convenient to be able to dink but I don't like it.

Be a good hubby and buy her a bike of her own.

I already told her she needs a new MX bike or possibly a 125 and I'll drag myself out and get a 450 so she can have my very much beloved 125, but she said she would prefer a sports bike! So again I said I'll go and find a nice 600 and just to be cost conscious I would put race glass on it (incase she drops it) etc. I also suggested that she would look good on a 450rr but no, she doesn't think so. To be honest she would prefer a race car and again I went out and found said race car but alas no luck there either. So I'll just go back to dreaming again

There'll be another one with a streetfightered R1 there... hopefully riding with us, havent met anyone who takes the on off ramps as gracefully as her.

...Cos I would like to come out of the sweeper into the fwy on the back wheel and ride it down the fwy for a bit....

With the front wheel all crossed up.

Ditto.
Will we get point's for syncronisation?
Baffle the walloper on the hair-dryer and he won't know who to point it at. ;)

In my pushbike riding days, any wheelie would have the bars crossed up, cos it looks sooooo cool 8) The worst part, one time I put the wheelie down in that crossed up position and I shot over the front of the bike

And its the best to bust a nice bike wheelie right next to your mate so its soo close that you could lean out and touch their bike. :D

So before the end of the corner, while still being leantover a bit, smash it up onto the rear wheel, straighten it up, click a gear or two and just casually ride it down the fwy.

Well the pre ride meeting was all very good fun, a few wheeles here and there and a stoppie or 2 just to even things out. Although my wheelies were all over the shop, being really choppy and not smooth at all.

But the best thing, I did not realise that I can pull 5th gear wheelies (no clutch) on the berg. Which is a launch speed at about 100 and perfectly suited to fwy sillyness.

Dont be to hard on ya self Sibbo. The only rollin stoppie I saw came from you.

Willi rd was a perfect run, wide open and no cars. We really lit up the sky with headlights down there.

And damn those ramps are fun.

Enjoyed myself as usual.
We dont go out much up here so an evening out down there is always good.
]Let alone get in a blast on the freeway and around the town.
Had fun on the ramps too but we got baulked by the B-Double as we swept around the 270 degree one and bvoth Paul and Tania and I were on the chocks pretty hard with some last minute decisions going on before off the brakes and rail the armco to get past in the emergency lane as narrow as it is on the ramp!
All good and shame we didnt have the helmet cameras going again for the wheelies along Willi Rd.
Looking forward to the next one!

I had a good time riding with everyone and a good social night although the tables were not arranged for us all to be able to talk together.
Still the point of the evening was a social ride, bit of a hoon, suss out the new meeting point for social gathering.
Haven't you guys got DVD players/Internet porn access or something.
If the chicks that come with us read this you wont gather too many to your rides.
Switch on fellas,
You can look at the menu when your on a diet, so just ride behind and smile all you like.
And did any of you think that one person described in this thread may be attached to another member of this forum for instance... :?
