Another one rolling around and the second last for the year.
Another BBQ lunch I'm presuming.
I have a couple of take off front tyres for Daves DR to bring,
Sibbos slider/stickers and Ash's Crankcase Catch Bottle from Steve.
Broom and shovel for the dirt, povvo tent for some shade and a couple of chairs.
While we are there this trackday,
Wondering how many would like to walk the area and put together a bit of a rough layout for the new dirt section to go in there in January or thereabouts.
Dave (Dangermouse) I can pick you up at the G.V. Hwy overpass at Seymour if you want mate.
Should get there about 8.45am and load the DR, save you maybe 150 odd kms in the saddle.
So who's a definite and are we wanting dirt too...

No can do for me, the berg wont be going by then.
Could I get you to give my allocated pipe slider and stickers to Ash/Neil, so I can pick them up from either of them.

I'd love to get out there, but I usually have custody of my son on Saturday's so its's hard to swing...
Could you use one of these on the dirt section? Have a look at what's caught up in the scoop in the 2nd and 3rd photo's...

Whats wrong with it now?
He only a little fella Bomber?
I've had my time with all that mate and its a difficult road to travel.
I understand 100%.
See you when you can then ;)
We will be having a ride night hopefully on the (Friday night) 15th December
for a get together before the track day for blokes like you that cant always get the Saturday free.
That will be in another thread in Motard Rides shortly.

You been playing with the stunters again behind our backs mate?
Or did you find the Reefton Spur just too slippery for you early in the morning?

Reefton got me about lunchtime. Not quite true, I got me about lunchtime, cos it was all my fault. I just f%*ked up.

Hope you weren't by yourself cause I have had mates die on that road solely because of the isolation factor after having an accident.
Not the smartest thing to do mate.
So you OK obviously unless its the laptop from the Austins Spinal Unit your on.
And the bike is fucked where?
You do know we have regular track days so you can fuckup all you like with someone to pick up the bits in a controlled environment ;)
Sibbo

Nar, I was with a few road bike mates (who I whooped, but was never able to whoop on my road bikes before, so matards are faster).
I am fine, right wrist is a bit sore (but that could be other things[read other posts people!!]).
The worst part is that the bark busters and mirrors combined to break my clutch line. The mirror made the perch spin and drag the line across the bark buster bar mount (bark busters dont offer tripple clamp options for berg/ktm) sending fluid everywhere and rending me clutchless. So I need a new line.
Managed to bend the magura fat bars. So I am getting something else, with a lower bend.
Broke the gear shift lever, scratched the plastics and a bit on the pipe, but not too bad. Killed the peg slider and my skatey wheel on the swingarm. It left this big blue line down the road, it did look really cool!
So my punishment is no track day this w/e and not enough damage to warrent an insurance claim.

I know.
But I cant beat my road bike mates at South Morang and I have been talking up motards for so long and I just had to punish them. But it would of been better if I did not have a DNF.

There is no substitute for experience Brett.
You just stick with us and do a few more road rides
before racing your other mates on the Reefton of all places
and you will live long enough to get that sponsorship and pitgirl
you always wanted... ;)

Just to play devils advocate ;) I'd say anything that we come up with has to be attractive to the novice/non-dirt rider as well since these are probably the larger amount of people attracted to motarding. For that reason if people want a more challenging layout (which I'd say is any one including whoops or any sort of rhythm section) we should design for an alternate line that doesn't necessitate this, similar to how they have had in the guidon d'or.

Hit the nail on the head Neil.
There would be an alternative line that is bypass the jumps most likely depending on space we have available.
There will be no whoops or rythym section either.
If you want that, ride your motard at Broadmeadows.
Like I said previously and Neil just reinforced it, must be rideable for all levels.
There will be a step up style jump and a table top.
The step up will be able to be doubled for the faster riders and the novices/intermediate skill level riders will still be able to go over them without upset.
We will have a look at the possibilities on Saturday.
Sibbo
22-11-2006, 12:10 PM
Is it possible to have the jumps really close the the exit of the corner, so you have to get really good drive out of the corner to jump it cleanly.
It will be hard at first, but it will encourage people to try and put the power down early on the dirt, to get the desired speed to clear the jump. It will also leave more room for people to brake/crash before the next corner.
Also, if it is possible to have big wide sweeping berms and a tight flat inside line. This will give a good passing spot for thoes more confidant on dirt and leave the less confidant to use the big fat berm to rail it around with heaps of confidance for the next jump.

did you see the supermoto last week ??? they had 2 lines out of a right hander . the inside had a small jump that they rolled them jumped a double . the out side line they trippled , i think that is a geat idea we plan on doing the same in our dirt section over here
Sibbo
22-11-2006, 01:26 PM
No I did not see it.
The jumps would be ace! I can just see Neil doing stuff like that!

We want people to stay on the bike, not crash it wheelspinning up to a non achieveable, or get crossed up in the process of leaving the ground,
So no there will be no jumps close to any corners.
Wanna ride SX, go to Tooleen.
There will be berms and flat areas inside though, and the possibility of the double with the step up.

Fair enough on the jumps close to the exits and no whoops but a good Rhythm section would be good. If we put something there that can't really be rolled at a reasonable speed then a chicken track should be involved.

What would you run a track bike at for static and rider?
shane
23-11-2006, 09:58 AM
static or free sag , really depends on your body weight as i am a fat bastard i need a heavy rear spring rate as just winding a lighter spring up will make the shock blow through the dampening ,i have my rider sag set at 70 .with that my free sag is topped out ,i have read where rider sag and free sag should be like 75-20 that might work if your 140 dripping wet but with us pie eaters its never going to happen

sorry it was 140 pounds , i cant remember off hand as i have set it since the start of the year ,ill check my little black book and let you know .
the front we normally set off the back so it blances and use the little rubber o-ring around the fork tube to check the travel , we set these up then just checked the free sag .

There is blue as well :)
MCS dont make anything that will fit. The lever comes out right at the pivot point and is quite short. I have tried to find a replacment lever and will try some more, but I dont hold too much hope.
Cant take pics at the moment, bike looks like shit with no bars on it, no clutch line and generally looking sad.

Catch bottle and exhaust slider.
Povvo tent.

Takeoffs for Dave ;)
Would anyone happen to have a walking measure or access to borrow one for the measuring of the dirt section?
