View Full Version : LC4 secrets anyone?
 Hey, has anyone got any tips on making an LC4 go harder? Im already hunting down an affordable exhaust, but I mean like cam or head mods- any links? :?:

Yeah put the seat and side plates on a 525  Then it's light as well as having more power :D

Sort out the carby, or just throw out the carby (BST) and get another one (FCR ot FMX), especially if you plan on riding on bumps.
The standard BST needs bigger jets. The main comes standard at 142.5, a mate of mine has taken it out to 160. You need to match this to your pipe for best performance (he has the EXC pipe).
The pilot air jet needs to go up from 1.0 to 1.1
Get rid of the airbox snorkel and side cover to let more air in.
Replace the little black (non)filter on the rhs unless you like to have sand inside your carb (I know this one from experience).
There are other modes like cutting coils off the diagphram spring and drilling holes in the slide, but I don't know if these make much of a diff.
You can trawl around on the net, places like KTMTalk, ADVRider or ThumperTalk all have forums for big KTM's, and while not all specifically motard, they're still talking about the same bike.
You can do really major work on the LC4 donk if you want to.
The factory race bikes that came to Oz for the world champs a few years back were taken out to 720cc.
I've still got vid of Van Den Bosch trying to kick start it after it stalled :)

<fast is a relative concept>
Cheers for the info
 Did I say affordable exhaust? sheesh! -the cheapest was Staintune at $550 for the muffler only, so Im gonna get the local bike exhaust dude to hopefully replace the guts with sports internals, and apparently the presilencer, (which alot of people think is a cat) is straight thru- so no point replacing that.

You can get the pipe section from an ealier model LC4, not sure what year though, to replace the pong box under the seat.
It is a stock part from KTM.
You are right, it is NOT a cat on the Oz models, but it is on the US ones.
I hope that you have already attacked the end of the stock muffler.
Remove the end cap (3 screws) and the cut away the last baffle plate, if it hasn't already been removed. This frees the pipe up a bit, but not as much as an EXC pipe.

Yeah, already got the dremel out for that one- nah, didn't make a hell of a difference

it does make it sound better
so does taking the snorkel and side cover off the air box.

My mate here I think still has a FCR flatslide in 41mm that would be sweet on performance. It is new and has screw in chokes, so is better to tune for differing torque curves. Is downdraft style offset @ very slight angle. How serious about decent mods are you though, cause it would set you back around $900.

$900
Yikes. They are a great carb though.
Yeah, I will fork out for a better carb later on- not yet though.
Got my exhaust back yesterday- basically the guy just gutted it and left the three (2"?) short tubes going into the can ( one is covered with mesh)
and the can is lined with mesh from factory - good for noise reduction and at the end he put a perforated tube -2" .
Its not much louder at all, but definately flows better &has more power.
With the airbox, I just cut the top opening under the seat into a big circle-( Im not keen on having the filter open to the elements).
Sounds good, not too loud- and only cost $80 =D>

Have you seen the airbox side cover part in the hard equipment catalogue?
You can make one of these yourself, of just leave it out completely.
It's really just a budgie strainer.
Take the LHS side-cover off and have a look at it.
There is a foam pad that seals the side of the airbox.
This can come straight off and the side-cover put back in place.
You will get heaps more air access without having to cut anything (too late), but it's still not 'out in the elements'.
