Monster Energy racers dominated this past weekend’s AMA Supermoto Championship round at Nashville’s (Tenn.) Music City Motorplex as Mark Burkhart, Doug Henry and Brandon Currie swept all three AMA Supermoto and AMA Lites class main events.
Burkhart got things going early for Monster Energy/Graves Motorsports/ Yamaha when he dialed in his YZ450F and scored the Superpole victory by nearly two seconds over series points leader Jeff Ward.
In the opening Supermoto class main event, Burkhart pulled the holeshot, led after the first lap and never looked back – leading the entire 14-lap main event. And while it looked for much of the race like Monster Energy racers would go 1-2, Henry bobbled late on lap 12 and had to settle for 4th overall behind Jeff Ward and Australian Husqvarna rider Troy Herfoss.
With some vengeance in mind, Henry passed both Ward and his teammate Burkhart in the second moto and walked away with the victory – leading from lap seven on. Chris Filmore and Jeff Ward followed him home.
As it stands, Henry is now 31 points behind Ward with one race remaining on the season – the Troy Lee Queen Mary Supermoto in Long Beach, Calif. And Burkhart also has a shot at the overall podium as he trails 3rd place Chris Fillmore by 36 points.
In the AMA Supermoto Lites class Monster Energy’s Brandon Currie made an amazing come-from-behind pass on the last lap over Lites series points leader Cassidy Anderson to take the win. Currie now trails Anderson by only 23 points with one race to go.
AMA Supermoto returns to action on Nov. 5th when the Queen Mary in Long Beach, Calif., hosts the final round of the AMA Supermoto Championships, presented by Parts Unlimited

That one came in through XML news feeds.
You will see the same editorial on most of the SMR oreintated sites along with bike news sites.
I thought I might start to activate this forum a bit more, with ex-patriot racers like Shane in Thailand, Chas Hern in Singapore, along with Rookie posting occasionally Asian SMR updates and news, Lorenzo in Italy, Steve and JR in the States, there might be a want for up to date info.
The interest locally in last weekends Mettett Superbikers Race is testiment to that.
I have some pics of Shane taking the Gold in the '05 Thai SM Championship too that could be displayed.
(He keeps 'em to himself @ http://www.australianmuscle.com)
Paul also posted a handy link to keep tabs on the racing on the AMA front..

More racing content can only be good - we tend to fall out of the information loop from time to time when it comes to supermotard racing, such as frequent s1/s2 updates from europe etc, so the more the better I reckon

The results for the Mettett Superbikers race is...
Stephane Chambon First, who cares about the rest really?
The 20th edition of the Mettet Superbiker has seen a star studded field line up under blue Belgian skies last weekend. The annual event that pits riders from different disciplines against each other in a supermoto setting was won by Road and Supermoto racer Stephane Chambon.
Frenchman Chambon took the main title ahead of World Motocross champion Stefan Everts and former world champion Andrea Bartolini.
Kiwi Josh Coppins traded his normal Bridgestone motocross treads and Alpinestars MX kit for Supermoto slicks and a trick leather suite to battle against his the likes of Chambon, Everts, Smets, Pichon, Demaria, Bartolini, Melotte and Aussie Superbike racer Troy Corser.
Coppins suffered a flat tire in his qualification heat and was left to start in 13th spot on the grid for Sunday’s final. The Kiwi made the best of his starts and rocketed to 8th place in both Moto’s.
“I didn’t get much time on the track with my qualifiers so I was quite happy with the way I was riding . The only practice I got in prior to the race was a session on the street and then we packed everything in to go to the race. I had no crashes and had some good battles with the other guys. There was a great turnout of spectators.” explained Coppins
There you go Shane ;)
It looks like it might be on the brow of a rise, and also by the lean angle on the first dude, you would expect him to be heading downhill and waiting for the road to rise again (positive ground effect) for the grip to come back and stand it up for the exit...

Jeff Ward, the 2004 AMA Supermoto Champ, is looking to cap off a stellar 2006. Ward has won eight rounds leading up to the series finale and is control of his own fate with a 31-point lead. He needs only a third-place or better finish in the first round at the Queen Mary to clinch his second AMA Supermoto title. Earlier this summer Ward, a multi-time AMA Motocross and Supercross champ, as well as Indy Car standout, was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame. In August he also became the oldest male Gold Medalist in the X-Games by winning the Moto X SuperMoto competition.
Even though he’s in a solid position going into the finale, Ward is taking nothing for granted.
“I’ve got a pretty good lead going into Long Beach,” allowed Ward, who rides for Troy Lee Designs Honda. “I’m going into the final round with the intention of doing the same thing I did in Nashville. I’ll take what the race gives me. If I’m in a position to win I’ll do what I can. Fortunately I’m in a position where I can take a second or third-place finish, so I have some options. The thing you worry about is having something strange happen, like it did last year in Reno. So that’s what I’ll be trying to avoid.”
Ward led the championship going into last year’s finale, but crashed and lost the title to German Jurgen Kunzel.
Graves Yamaha’s Doug Henry is the other rider with a shot at the title. Henry made an incredible comeback after suffering injuries in 2005 and missing the entire second half of the season. Henry has five wins to his credit and still has an outside chance of winning this year’s championship.
“I’m just going to try and do my best out there,” Henry said after winning the most recent round in Nashville, Tenn. “Some weekends it comes a little easier than others so I’m just taking it one race at a time. I’m going to go into Long Beach to try and get a good set-up. All I can do is try to win and go out happy with whatever happens in the championship knowing I did all I could. It’s feels really good going into Long Beach with this momentum.”
Ward’s Troy Lee Honda teammate Cassidy Anderson is similarly in charge of the AMA Hot Wheels Supermoto Lites Championship. Anderson, of Provo, Utah, has won seven of the nine Lites races this year, but Graves Yamaha’s Brandon Currie kept his slim hopes alive with a dramatic come-from-behind win in Nashville.
A 19th-place result or better will bring home the title to Anderson.
“It was disappointing to not wrap it up in Nashville,” Anderson said. “I’ve just got to focus on not making any errors at Long Beach. The team has worked so hard all year and we’ve had a great season. I’m looking forward to capping it off with a championship.”
Currie comes into Long Beach happy to still be alive in the championship. “I know it’s a long shot,” he said. “But at least we’re taking it all the way to the final race.”
Four riders are still in contention in the AMA 70/30 Racing Supermoto Unlimited class. Wisconsin’s Ben Carlson leads Frenchman David Baffeleuf by four points coming into Long Beach. Promising teenager John Lewis and reigning champ Micky Dymond also come to the finale with an opportunity to win the 2006 title.
Carlson, who rides with Team Red Bull KTM HMC, met his first goal of leading going into the season finale.
“The main thing is we stayed ahead of David and got the points, which are crucial,” said Carlson, who has won three races this year. “That’s what we needed to do. We should have come out of Nashville with a win; I thought we could do it but sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. Long Beach ought to be a good race.”
The innovative track layout for “Duel At The Docks” features an array of crowd-pleasing obstacles, including a tunnel (an AMA Supermoto first) just after the dirt section, the 40-foot Honda skyshot bridge, and the Parts Unlimited “Urban Cross” jumps which will be utilized at the finish line.

After his victory at the main event of the Western QBE Moto Mayhem Tory Herfoss is pumped about his 1st outing in the USA with his new team and aboard his new factory KTM SMR at next month's Stateline Challenge.
"This event was huge last year and looks like it will be even bigger this year, it's a good test for the top guy's to see how the pace is for the new season of the AMA Supermoto championship. I'm looking forward to taking on Wardy and Burkhart on the new machines," Stated Troy from his now USA base with the KTM team.
Cru Halliday is on a test with the team that Troy rode for last year, with the possibility of him doing more Supermoto races state side as well. "I'm very exited about this opportunity to race Supermoto in the USA, this bike will be a little different then the Yamaha I am used to, however we do have some testing scheduled before the event. No matter what I am just going to enjoy the experience," Said Cru the new front-runner in the 250 class in Australia.
The Stateline Challenge, North America's largest supermoto event and the unofficial kick-off of the nation's supermoto racing season, has grown bigger than ever in this, its third year. There's still time to register, and event organizer Marche Karger has already received a record-breaking number of entries, which this year looks to approach 600 racers.
"Supermoto racing is clearly gaining momentum," says Karger. "Troy Lee ended last season with his fantastic 'Duel At The Docks' at the Queen Mary, and the AMA has already announced this year's championship series schedule and even added a couple of extra dates. I'm thrilled to be hosting so many great pro and amateur competitors at my event."
In fact, notes Karger, those planning to enjoy this springtime weekend of racing, with temperatures in the low '80s by day and around 60 at night, should hasten to make their reservations at one of the hotel and casino properties in this border hamlet: Buffalo Bill's, Whiskey Pete's, or Primm Valley Resort. Links to all of them, plus extensive details about this year's Stateline Challenge, can be found at www.snvsupermoto.com
Australian Supermoto Champion Adam Cini signed to ride in the USA. Adam will be riding the Husqvarna TC 250 with the backing of AXO in the 250 Lites class, while 2006 team rider, David Baffeleuf will continue riding in the Supermoto Unlimited class. The team will debut with the Stateline Supermoto Challenge, April 12-14 in Primm, NV, which Australian Troy Herfoss is also slated to attend for the KTM Factory backed team.
The 2007 season will also see the return of Frenchman Adrien Chareyre at select events in the 450 class. Unlimited rider, Gary Trachy returns to the ride his SMR 510 and the team is proud to continue to support the 2006 NASMOTO 250 and 450 Amateur National Champion, Joey Pascarella. The team has also announced a new team title sponsor in LA Fuel Energy Drink. LA Fuel is a new all natural energy drink launching in the United States in 2007

Jeff Ward continues to defy the odds. Common knowledge would say that a racer of 45 would not be on the top of his game still winning championships against riders half his age.
Yet as the 2007 AMA Supermoto Championship season approaches, Ward, the defending and two-time champ with Team Troy Lee Design Honda Red Bull, is still considered the rider to beat despite the fact that he will turn 46 in June.
Ward heads the list of top riders expected to make a run for this year’s premier class, the AMA Red Bull Supermoto. The series kicks off on May 19 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in St. Louis and concludes on Nov. 11, with the Duel at the Docks in Long Beach.
Ward, who won his first Supermoto title in 2004, earned back the title last year over Doug Henry of Graves Yamaha by a margin of 36 points (429-393). Ward lost the 2005 title in the final round to Jurgen Kunzel. Chris Fillmore finished 2006 ranked third with 356 points. Fillmore will ride for Monster Energy/Litz Racing/Kawasaki in 2007.
2006 will be a year Ward won’t soon forget. In August last year he became the oldest male gold medalist in X Games history when he won the Moto X event. After that Ward was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame. His AMA Supermoto title was icing on the cake.
“Motocross has been my life and it’s always going to be my life, and Supermoto is a part of it now too, helping it grow,” Ward said after winning the title last year in Long Beach. “My oldest son (Brandon) runs it well and he might be able to have a career over here if it takes off big enough. And my other son (Ayrton) wants to go road racing and this is a perfect venue to start that with small bikes and the pavement. It’s a good sport and I want to see it get bigger and bigger.”
Ward’s Troy Lee Designs teammate Cassidy Anderson, who won last year’s AMA Supermoto Lites title, will step up and join Ward in the premier Supermoto class. Anderson, of Provo, Utah, had an outstanding 2006 in Supermoto Lites. He won seven of the 10 rounds, opening the season with five-straight wins. He built a large lead in the series halfway through the year and held it to the final race. He will now face Ward and the rest of the Supermoto regulars head to head for the first time.
Mark Burkhart will uphold Yamaha honors in Supermoto with the Graves Yamaha squad. Burkhart has been a leading competitor in the class and he’s hoping to find the consistency that will bring him a championship. The Ohioan was the Lites champion in 2005.
HMC KTM will be a powerful squad again this year in the Supermoto class with British rider Kurt Nicoll and Australian up-and-comer Troy Herfoss.
Ben Carlson won the AMA Supermoto Unlimited Championship last year and now joins Factory Aprilia Rip It Racing’s Darryl Atkins riding the twin-cylinder Aprilia SXV. This year marks the first season the high-tech Aprilia 450cc V-Twin will be allowed to race in the Supermoto class and Carlson and Atkins should be factors, especially on tracks that feature bigger road racing sections. The duo will race Aprilia 550s in the AMA Supermoto Unlimited class as well.
David Baffeleuf will run under the LA Fuel GP Husqvarna banner. Micky Dymond is back riding for All Access Honda. Freestyle Icon Cary Hart and Tyler Evans have teamed up to form the all new Team Rockstar Hart & Huntington Tattoo Co., along with other premier class top riders including Steve Drew and Mike Metzger.
Sadly, there will be a big hole in the starting grids of this year’s races. Multi-time AMA Champion Doug Henry will not race due to serious injuries suffered in a Supermoto accident on March 4, during Daytona Bike Week activities. Henry is one of the premier stars of the series and his presence on the track will be sorely missed.
The AMA Hot Wheels Supermoto Lites class promises to be wide open this year with last year’s runner up Brandon Currie the pre-season favorite back with the Graves Yamaha team. David Pingree impressed everyone with his Lites victory in Long Beach last year and it earned him a coveted ride with Team Troy Lee Designs Honda Red Bull, where he’ll ride alongside team owner Troy Lee. Dalton Dimick and Matt Abbott will race for the newly formed Monster Energy/Litz Racing/Kawasaki team.
Ben Carlson will be back defending his AMA PPG Supermoto Unlimited presented by M&R Products No. 1 plate, but this year riding a twin-cylinder Aprilia. “I’m looking forward to riding with Aprilia,” said Carlson. “I’m sure there’s going to be some great competition in the class.”
Team HMC KTM will be a powerhouse in AMA Supermoto Unlimited class with Troy Herfoss, Kurt Nicoll and young gun John Lewis. Gary Trachy and David Baffeleuf are slated to run the big bikes for Husqvarna.
The Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in St. Louis will host the AMA Supermoto Championship season opener on May 19. For more information visit www.stlouissupermoto.com.

Aprilia USA and Atkins Global Management, along with a world-class roster of sponsor partners led by Rip-It Energy Drink®, have teamed up to challenge the ‘establishment’ in the 2007 AMA Supermoto Championship.
Factory Aprilia Rip-It Racing team riders Ben Carlson, the 2006 AMA Supermoto Unlimited Class champion and team owner Darryl Atkins, the 2005 AMA Supermoto Unlimited Class runner-up will race the World Championship-winning Aprilia SXV 4.5 V-Twin in the Supermoto class for the first time.
Until 2007, AMA rules have only allowed multi-cylinder machines to compete in the unlimited class. For the 2007 season the V twin Aprilias will also compete in the 450 class. Wisconsin native Carlson and New Zealander Atkins will also return to contest the Unlimited Class with the Aprilia SXV 5.5, beginning with the season opener AMA Supermoto Championship races on May 29, at the St. Louis, MO Verizon Wireless Amphitheater.
“We’re really excited to expand our factory Supermoto race program for 2007,” says Rick Panettieri, brand manager, Aprilia USA. “The SXV 4.5 has proven to be very competitive in the FIM S2 Supermoto World Championship taking the title in 2006.
“All of us, from racers to sponsors, are focused on showcasing the Aprilia’s competitiveness on North American soil as well,” he says.
Ben Carlson cites the Factory Aprilia Rip-It Racing team dynamic as another factor in the team’s favor. Former rivals, Atkins and Carlson will compete for the podium as teammates for the first time. “Darryl has been a tough competitor in the past few years and I’m happy to join forces," says Carlson. “Add the opportunity to compete on a powerful new machine like the SXV, and it’s a real adrenaline rush. You can bet that we’re committed to making the most out of these strengths every time the tires touch the track.”
The Factory Aprilia Rip-It Racing team’s first outing on the SXV 4.5 and 5.5 was at the Stateline Supermoto Challenge - a season primer held in Primm, NV. Carlson took a seventh place finishing spot competing amongst some of the top riders in the 2007 AMA season, while Atkins was involved in a multi rider accident and did not finish the race.
The Factory Aprilia Rip-It Racing team is sponsored by Rip-It Energy Drink, Aprilia USA, Parts Unlimited, Bel-Ray Oils, Groove wines, Thor, Scott, Alpinestar, Asterisk, Ogio, ZLT, Dunlop, Beringer Brakes, K&N Filters, Pit Bull, Suzuka, Alpina Wheels, Renthal, Mechanix Wear, Regina Chains, Works Connection, Acerbis and AF1 Racing.

Honda’s Jeff Ward won in come from behind fashion at the AMA Supermoto season opener at The Verizon Amphitheater. Ben Carlson registered the first series win for Aprilia in AMA Supermoto Unlimited, while Yamaha’s Brandon Currie won the AMA Supermoto Lites main event.
Ward is the reigning AMA Supermoto champion, but off the start, he was relegated to the back of the pack as Husqvarna’s Adrien Chareyre, of France, took early control. Ward battled through Honda’s Mark Burkhart and Kawasaki-mounted Chris Fillmore and set his sights on Chareyre.
On lap 12 of the 20-minute race, Ward made a pass for the lead and used his experience to hold off Chareyre, who rode on Ward’s rear tire for the final three laps.
“The St. Louis track was fast, I had to be aggressive out there”, said Ward, “Everything worked out great I really liked the dirt section and was able to make up time in it. It feels great to get the first win of the season”.
In the AMA Supermoto Unlimited class Ben Carlson started from the pole position and led every lap of the 15-minute race. The win was the first-ever for Aprilia in North America and also marks the first time the Italian motorcycle manufacturer has had a rider in the points lead. Husaberg’s Robert Loire was second, followed by KTM’s Josh Chrism.
“Capturing Aprillia’s first win feels amazing,” said Carlson, “I am very happy for this team and everyone involved I have been working hard and I want to put a great season together for everyone here”.
Honda’s David Pingree started on the pole for AMA Supermoto Lites and held the lead for a majority of the race. With two laps to go, Currie capitalized on a Pingree mistake to take over the lead. Pingree would finish second, followed by Husqvarna’s Adam Cini, the Australian making his debut in the US Championship.

The second round of the 2007 AMA Supermoto Championship gets underway Sunday, June 3, at Englishtown (N.J.) Raceway Park. This event expects to draw an enthusiastic crowd as top racers come to town for this inaugural race.
Troy Lee Designs Honda rider Jeff Ward comes into Englishtown with a three-point lead over Husqvarna's Adrien Chareyre.
"Last week in St. Louis I felt really good in the dirt section, I was lucky that I was able to make up time there," explained Ward about his success in the opening round. "I want to be consistent all season. The win in St. Louis and this whole season I am dedicating to one of my good friends, Doug Henry. We miss him and we are all pulling for him." Henry, a multi-time AMA Champion was injured in a pre-season crash.
In St. Louis, the top five riders in the AMA Red Bull Supermoto class all finished within five seconds of each other. Every second counts in AMA Supermoto racing and with parity in the sport's featured class, fans can expect great racing all season long.
At the first round, the AMA PPG Supermoto Unlimited presented by M&R class saw Aprilia's Ben Carlson dominate the competition en route to first-ever win in North America for the Italian motorcycle manufacturer.
The season opener in St. Louis for the AMA Hot Wheels Supermoto Lites class showcased some of the weekend's best racing between Graves Motorsports Yamaha rider, Brandon Currie and Troy Lee Designs Honda rider David Pingree. The two riders battled for a majority of the race, remaining within a bike length of each other, but an eventual mistake by Pingree handed Currie the win.

Graves Motorsports Yamaha’s Mark Burkhart won over Troy Lee Designs Honda’s Jeff Ward in wet and slick conditions during the inaugural AMA Supermoto Championship race at Raceway Park, Englishtown, last weekend.
Rip It Energy Aprilia’s Ben Carlson distanced himself from the pack early to win his second main event in a row in M&R AMA Supermoto Unlimited competition, while Graves Motorsports Yamaha’s Brandon Currie also prevailed taking his second race of the season in the Hot Wheels AMA Supermoto Lites class.
Troy Lee Designs Honda’s Cassidy Anderson grabbed the holeshot but was quickly passed by Burkhart on the opening lap, while rain soaked the course. Burkhart battled with Ward for the remainder of the race, with each rider taking turns in the lead, before Burkhart took the lead with two laps remaining. Burkhart held on for his first win of the season with Ward finishing second. HMC KTM’s Troy Herfoss, of Australia, finished third.
"The weekend was great up until an hour before our race, then we had to put the rain tires on", said Burkhart. "All race I was really just trying not to crash, There was mud on the pavement all over the track. It was a good race though. I have a lot of respect for Ward. We both raced clean out there, and I hope we put on a great show for the fans watching in the rain."
Carlson dominated the track leading every lap of the 12-lap race after starting in the pole position. HMC KTM’s Kurt Nicoll finished second just ahead of teammate and local rider John Lewis.
"Hats off to Aprilia, this team’s hard work is unbelievable," said Carlson. "The track seemed to get a little bit slicker each lap, and luckily I was able to get a comfortable lead where I could keep the bike in the driest line".
Currie started on the pole for the Hot Wheels AMA Supermoto Lites class. Currie was able to grab the holeshot and hrld the lead for all 12 laps. Troy Lee Designs Honda’s David Pingree kept close watch as the two riders pulled a 30-second advantage over the rest of the field. Pingree charged until the checkered flag, earning second place.
A three way fight for third ended in two riders going down and Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Matt Abbott coming away with the final podium position.
"Fortunately the rain held off, so the decision to stick with slick tires paid off," said Currie. "That was a good race. Pingree kept me honest. I want to thank everyone at Yamaha and all my family and everyone that is here supporting me."

Graves Motorsports Yamaha's Mark Burkhart picked up his third win of the season at the Waterford Hills Road Course, round four of the AMA Supermoto Championship. Rip It Energy Aprilia's Ben Carlson kept his perfect season intact with his fourth win in M&R AMA Supermoto Unlimited competition, while Troy Lee Designs Honda's David Pingree won his second straight main event win in the Hot Wheels AMA Supermoto Lites class.
Burkhart continues his momentum, enhancing his winning streak to three wins in a row, leaving Troy Lee Designs Honda teammates Cassidy Anderson and Jeff Ward battling for second in AMA Supermoto Championship racing at Detroit Supermoto at the Waterford Hills Road Course.
Troy Lee Designs Honda's Cassidy Anderson captured the holeshot off the start of the AMA Supermoto main event. On the third lap Burkhart, of Pataskala, Ohio, worked his way to front as Troy Lee Designs Honda teammates Jeff Ward and Anderson gave chase.
Ward made a small mistake near the halfway mark which allowed Anderson to take over second place. Burkhart slowly pulled away down the stretch and wound up winning by a six-second margin. Anderson managed to hold off the constant pressure from Ward to take second place, while Ward finished just inches behind in third.
"Today I knew I had to go for the win," said Burkhart. "My bike handled the best it ever has. Cassidy and Jeff kept me honest. I knew off the start I just had to go for it as soon as possible. It was great to see all the people that came up to support this event."
Although Carlson walked away with another win in the M&R AMA Supermoto Unlimited class, this victory wasn't as easy as his first three of the season. Carlson was challenged by his Rip It Energy Aprilia teammate Darryl Atkins the entire race. Atkins, of settled for second while HMC KTM's Kurt Nicoll battled through the pack after getting pitched off at the start to third.
"I have been very fortunate getting great starts all season," said Carlson. "My teammate hung with me and when we were in lap traffic, I felt him right there looking to make a pass. I have a good points lead now, but anything can always happen. I just want to keep the luck up and thank my team for all the support".
Pingree was able to make a first lap pass on Graves Motorsports Yamaha's Brandon Currie and cruised to an easy victory. Currie held on for second, with Troy Lee Designs Honda's Eric Sorby was third.
"I got a decent jump, and after Brandon bobbled on the first lap,
I was able to ride my own race out front," said Pingree.
"Every weekend Brandon and I seem to find each other on the track. We are both going unbelievably. This whole series so far has been amazing."
Of the Australian contingent Troy Herfoss finished just off the podium in 4th and holds the same position in the AMA Supermoto standings, only 3 points behind Micky Dymond. In the Lites Adam Cini once again was a front runner ending the day also in fourth, but sits third in the championship standings.

All Access Honda's Micky Dymond won in a wild turn of events during the inaugural AMA Supermoto Championship race at the Stafford Motor Speedway.
HMC KTM's Kurt Nicoll distanced himself from the pack early to win his first main event of 2007 in M&R AMA Supermoto Unlimited competition, while Troy Lee Designs Honda's David Pingree extended his winning streak to three in a row in the Hot Wheels AMA Supermoto Lites class.
HMC KTM's Troy Herfoss, of Australia, grabbed the holeshot to start the AMA Supermoto race, while Graves Yamaha's Mark Burkhart and Troy Lee Designs Honda's Jeff Ward came together in a first turn collision. On the opening lap Herfoss spun sideways in the sand and handed the lead over to Rip It Energy Aprilia's Ben Carlson. Carlson would lead two laps until before crashing in the same sand section that took down Herfoss. On lap five, Mach 1 Yamaha's Steve Drew took over the lead battling with All Access Honda's Micky Dymond but would later surrender the lead to Dymond, who went on to capture his first-ever AMA Supermoto premier class victory. Ward and Herfoss clawed their way onto the podium to round out second and third place, respectively.
"I am the most surprised guy here", said Dymond. "All race I really did not know what place I was in. The sun made a glare on my pit board so I could not read it, I battled the whole time coming from mid pack and thought the leaders were gone way out front. This sport is amazing, I want to thank everyone over the years for all their support."
Nicoll dominated the track leading every lap of the 16-lap M&R AMA Supermoto Unlimited race. Nicoll's win breaks the four-race winning streak of Rip It Energy Aprilia's Ben Carlson of West Bend, Wis., who finished second. Carlson's Teammate, Darryl Atkins was third.
"I got the start I needed," said Nicoll. "I wanted to get upfront to be able to pick good lines and set the pace. This track was perfect for me. I am used to riding in sand and it was a very nice change instead of having the usual dirt. These days I am really happy with everything going on in my life".
Pingree led every lap of the Hot Wheels AMA Supermoto Lites main event and took over the lead in the point standings. Graves Motorsports Yamaha's Brandon Currie pressured Pingree all 16 laps but had to settle for second place. HMC's KTM's John Lewis made his debuted in the Lites class, riding impressive taking third place.
"I pulled out the start on Brandon (Currie), all day he was going really fast so I needed the jump out of the gate to get ahead," said Pingree. Every point in this series championship is important. I need to keep my intensity high because Brandon keeps me honest every week."

Graves Yamaha's Mark Burkhart claimed his fifth victory of the season at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds for round seven of the AMA Supermoto Championship. Rip it Energy Aprilia's Darryl Atkins triumphed in M&R AMA Supermoto Unlimited competition, while Graves Yamaha's Brandon Currie captured his third win of the season and took claim of the points lead in the Hot Wheels AMA Supermoto Lites class.
HMC KTM's Troy Herfoss, of Australia, grabbed the holeshot to start the AMA Supermoto main event. Burkhart was following closely in second before making a pass to the lead on the opening lap. Burkhart never looked back and cruised to the victory, giving him a three-point lead over Troy Lee Designs Honda's Jeff Ward in the standings. Ward eventually moved his way around Herfoss to earn a second place finish. Herfoss put in an impressive ride keeping Burkhart and Ward insight as he rounded out the podium in third place.
"I've been working super hard, practicing a lot, and it has really helped me to be able put my head down and ride 110% when the light turns green", remarked Burkhart. "I really like the feeling of winning. I want to thank all the people who have helped to put Yamaha on top".
In the Unlimited class Atkins grabbed the lead after a first-turn pile up claimed several riders. Atkins led all ten laps, picking up his first ever AMA Supermoto Unlimited victory. LA Fuels Husqvarna's David Baffeleuf, of France, finished second while Robert Loire took third. "This track was great. I think it was even wilder and better than the X-Games.", stated Atkins, "This is the first year for the Aprilia program here in AMA Supermoto and this bike has really been phenomenal. The support we have from Aprilia has been just incredible. I can not wait for the next round in Texas".
Troy Lee Design Honda's David Pingree jumped to the early lead in the Hot Wheels AMA Supermoto Lites feature before a hard crash on the opening lap ended his day. Curriewould take over the lead and went on to pick up the victory. LA Fuel Husqvarna's Adam Cini, of Australia, finished second after holding off a late charge from Monster Energy Kawasaki's Dalton Dimick who finished third.
I hate to win with David (Pingree) crashing out," replied Currie. "I really liked this track. It was a great setup and nice mixture of surfaces. For sure this was one of the best places I have been to race.

Troy Lee Designs Honda's Cassidy Anderson and Rodney Taplin claimed his first-ever 450 Premier Supermoto and Supermoto Lites wins at round eight of the AMA Supermoto Championship held at Moody Gardens. KTM HMC Motoracing's Ales Hlad picked up the win in M&R AMA Supermoto Unlimited competition.
Troy Lee Designs Honda's Jeff Ward got off to a great start, earning the holeshot in the AMA Supermoto main event. Teammate Anderson followed in second while Sylvain Bidart, of France, battled Graves Yamaha's Mark Burkhart for the third position. On the third lap, Burkhart made an inside move to take over third, however, four laps later he would slide out charging into the dirt section, which dropped him back to sixth. On lap 14, Ward suffered mechanical problems and slowly pushed Ward to back of the field, where he would eventually finish in 15th place.
Anderson continued to pull away from the field and picked up the win. Bidart held on for second while Burkhart made a last-lap pass on HMC KTM's Troy Herfoss to grab the final podium position.
"This win is worth everything I have been through this year," remarked Anderson. "It has been an up and down year with some good rides, but a lot of bad luck as well. To take this win feels like redemption for myself. I have been training hard and trying to improve my riding and this win is definitely the best pay off I could of hoped for."
Troy Lee Design Honda's David Pingree jumped to the early lead in the Hot Wheels AMA Supermoto Lites main event. LA Fuels Husqvarna's Adam Cini, Graves Yamaha's Brandon Currie and Tory Lee Designs Honda teammate Rodney Taplin, of Austrailia, followed Pingree on the opening lap. Pingree was on the receiving end of a hard block pass by Cini, which dropped him back to fifth place.
Two laps later, Cini was disqualified by AMA officials due to a cracked engine case. Currie took over the lead and was in position for the win before a last lap collision with a lapped rider allowed Talpin to get by and claim the first U.S. win of his career. Currie finished second while Pingree came back through the pack to finish third.
"This was one of the best feelings I have ever had," said Taplin. "I am from Australia and it's a dream to come to the USA and win an AMA race. I want to thank everyone at Troy Lee Designs Honda for giving me a chance to race. Unfortunately I will not be in Morongo next weekend as I have a race back in Australia."
Hlad, of Bulgaria, jumped out to the early lead in AMA Supermoto and never looked back. He led all 15 laps en route to his first-ever AMA Supermoto Unlimited victory, and first on American soil. HMC KTM's Kurt Nicoll finished in second place while teammate John Lewis was third.
"I liked this race", stated Hlad, "I really did not know what to expect being in America for the first time. so I am happy to have this opportunity and win this race. I am excited for Morongo next weekend and I just want to learn as much as I can and get better as the AMA series comes to an end."

Both Elle and Supa4 could have been there. What were you doing guys?
Congrats to Taplin.
Devo - We thought about it but it's a 4-5 hour drive each way and I would have had to hire a car. Also one of the guys was laving so we had to do some work related stuff yesterday which left Sunday as the only option and the feature race is on Saturday - excuses!

I'm thinking of making a film.... The worlds fastest Corolla!
Although at this time of year the salt will probably be a bit damp - least it will keep the snow away.

Awesome performance by Taplin, along with a little bit of good luck going his way. :D
Wasn't sure if they were still going to need him cause I think originally he was just a replacement for David Pingree who had busted both arms, but came back from injury earlier than expected. Good to see TLD Honda gave him a run anyway, it certainly paid off for them.

Graves Yamaha's Mark Burkhart captured his sixth victory of the season during the penultimate round of the AMA Supermoto Championship at Mayhem at The Morongo hosted at the Casino Morongo Resort and Spa.
LA Fuels Husqvarna's Adam Cini picked up his first-ever win in M&R AMA Supermoto Unlimited competition, while Troy Lee Designs Honda's David Pingree took his fifth victory in the Hot Wheels AMA Supermoto Lites class.
Burkhart edged out the competition to grab the early lead. Moments later, Troy Lee Designs Honda's Cassidy Anderson crashed in the first turn which resulted in a red flag, forcing a restart.
On the restart, CHM Exhausts Sylvain Bidart, of France, took the lead as Burkhart, HMC KTMs Troy Herfoss, Monster Energy Kawasaki's Chris Fillmore and Troy Lee Designs Honda's Jeff Ward followed closely behind. Burkhart did not waste anytime as he moved into the lead on the first lap.
Burkhart cruised to the win, while Herfoss finished strong in second. Ward worked his way up to finish in third.
"Yamaha has been getting me pumped up all year and I have been riding good and being smart," commented Burkhart. "I have been having a lot of fun this year. I want to thank Yamaha for fully backing me and especially want to thank Doug Henry for coming out and supporting me this weekend."
Rip It Energy Aprilia's Ben Carlson jumped to the early lead in the AMA PPG Supermoto Unlimited class presented by M&R Products. HMC KTM's John Lewis, of Brandamore, Pa., and LA Fuels Husqvarna's Adam Cini, of Australia quickly passed Carlson in the early stages of the main event. The race was red flagged on the third lap due to HMC KTM's Kurt Nicoll blowing his engine and leaving oil on the track.
On the race restart, LA Fuels Husqvarna's David Baffeleuf, of France, took the lead followed by Cini. On the second lap Cini made the pass on his teammate and went on to capture the win. Baffeleuf was second while Lewis charged through the field to take third place.
"I wanted to win so bad today", stated Cini, "My goal this weekend was to place on the podium in both my classes and I am so happy to accomplish that today. This track is really fun, but it is also scary with how much speed you have going into some of the corners. Hopefully I can have a great day tomorrow too."
With a fifth-place finish, Carlson secured the 2007 AMA PPG Supermoto Unlimited Championship presented by M&R Products, successfully defending his title with back-to-back championships.
"This Championship feels great", exclaimed Carlson. "I rode smart today and played it sort of safe. This has been such a great season. I want thank my family and team for all their support".
Troy Lee Design Honda's David Pingree picked up the holeshot in the Hot Wheels AMA Supermoto Lites main event. Pingree was follow closely by Graves Yamaha's Brandon Currie and LA Fuels Husqvarna's Cini. All three riders pulled away from the field while they engaged in a three-way battle for the lead. Pingree, who was riding with two broken wrists suffered nearly a month ago, was able to hold onto the lead to earn the win. Currie placed second and Cini round out the podium in third place.
"I felt so comfortable in the dirt here", remarked Pingree. "Once the adrenaline wears off I am going to be sore, but the pain is worth the win. I am stoked about this whole event. Troy Lee has made a great track and that was an awesome race. I am looking forward to tomorrow and finishing the season on a high note."
The 10th and final round of the 2007 AMA Supermoto Championship will be held on Sunday at the Mayhem at The Morongo.
