Ok then, we have cheap entry on to the track for open practice on Saturday at the wodonga kart track the day before the racing starts. Let's get out there and support the Victorian series! There are social things planned on the nights as well, so plenty to see and do by the looks of things!

I'm opening registrations up for the next week for people to say whether they are coming for the weekend, riding the track on saturday, potentially racing or spectating on the sunday. Remember we get this at reduced rates when booking as VSMR! I'll also take requrests for accomodation and hopefully we can get something organised as far as that goes as well.

So, hands up and let me know the following:
Require transport Saturday morning/Friday night
Riding Saturday
Accomodation needed sat night
Racing Sunday
Spectating Sunday

C'mon guys, who's heading up? I just got word from Paul that they are going to run graded groups on the saturday, one for competition guys and one for non-competition/street riders so you don't need to worry about getting run over even! Hell, even I'll be out there wobbling around, so you can run over me instead!

Come on you blokes, We cut concessions for a track day with the Promoter, we cut concessions on entry fees, we have necessary support from associated businesses, and we have those complaining about lack of venues. For Christ sake if we dont support this round of Victorian racing, there wont be any more for a long time!
Its only Wodonga, and on a frigging freeway! :?

Neil, I want to see you wobble s'more. I'll be there for a non-comp ride on Saturday and will help trackside when not riding and on Sunday.:supz:

Got expertise in race control comms and emergency comms. :D

Have done Racesafe weekend training at Winton so can do recovery. Also have Senior First aide cert level 2.

Question, do I need leathers for Saturday, cause all I got is the stuff I wore last week. Hey, Neil, maybe you can watch me wobble and cheek-clinch

We really don't want to know what you do to Russel.
If you can rustle up some more participants that great..

Neil,

I might be able to attend, but I am supposed to be working in NZ.
I will be able to confirm by your due date.
Even if I say 'can't', I might still be there.

There will also be another rider from Wangaratta on OEM's and a 525 KTM, so thats 3 so far from here... Should we be able to get the XR 'BIG' setup in time it will be four. :D

i need to change the gear box oil, so i might have to run the bike for a couple of mins to heat the oil up. what are the police going to be like, cos the bike has no rego or anthing resembling lights and it will be long dark by the time i get there.

Results from the weekend are as follows,
On Saturday we arrived on the track location and were set up and ready to go early, with last minute additions being done like Danno's neat bottling job. Sibbo had what looked like an udder hanging under his like it should have been under mine! :D . We got some good early morning 10-15 minute sessions and an opportunity to attack the jump, eh Neil?
After the first session I was praying to the tyre gods for some longevity from my new Avons, but alas it was not to be and now the rear is only good for right handers! First out after lunch and not to be outdone by any, Danno decided to show the masses how to low side a Berg at the end of the back straight! :supz: Could have picked somewhere slower Danno?
Neil thought that it looked cool so he tried it too in the next session but picked a slower turn to demonstrate, but being the showoff that he is did it right in front of the pit entrance on the entrance to the back straight.
Sibbo, wanting the campaign the banner for those who are environmentally irresponsible reckoned he could do better and decided to start a BBQ after binning it. :blob: (Maybe thinking about the cat or 2 we were going to have for dinner) By the way Sibbo, if you dance like that at the Club, no wonder hot chicks wont sleep with you!
I didnt think we were any necessarily slower than the bulk of blokes/chicks there, and generally had a good day...
Accommodation was good, close by the track and forgiving of the blokes in V1 after they had consumed the said cats and a slab in 45 minutes :puke: ...
For those who missed this round there will another in around a month down at Bairnsdale...
Would recommend we obtain M.A rec licences prior as an annual at $80 to eleviate any dilemmas...

Ah, finally back home ... usually its muzz with the uncomfortably long trip at the end of a long day, but this time he was the one with the quick commute and we were the ones plodding into the sunset

What a fun weekend! After our usual quick getaway on friday night we got up to wodonga at the expected 1.30am. We took the long way up via healsville and chump creek, getting some warm up through the chump creek road and then drove around in circles by the time we got to wodonga, thanks to our ace hot navigation skills! Once we got up to the van park we were greeted by a half dressed muzz prowling the car park in his towel loincloth!

A quality few hours sleep later and we were off to the track ... the track looked good and was all tarmac (no dirt section) but they had errected a steel ramp just after one of the corners. There were a whole bunch of classes out and we ended up getting a whole class defined for ourselves! Now that's service!! So out we go and I come up to this jump thing wondering what that was all about and sailed over the thing with no throttle. 5 more attempts doing much the same thing and I pull back into the pits with a case of groinal hammering.....

Next session I worked out how to get over the thing without the bike trying to jettison the excess baggage over the handlebars, although the whole keeping the feet on the pegs seemed to be optional :P Danno decided to see how well the berger slides, although favouring the footpeg rather than the tyre! Sibbo was cruising around the track at quite a respectable pace on his ultra ultra skinny clubman tyres, but also decided to try what was looking like the fast line on the side of the bike, and deciding to set fire to things for a while just to make his point!

Before the end of the day Sibbo decided to try out the same trick again, and it was looking like so much fun that I decided to give it a crack as well around a 2nd gear left hander  Looking at things now I'm almost certain that I rolled off the edge of the back tyre and low-sided, as the left hand side was fairly well chewed up by the chain slapping about. That would certainly explain the direction I ended up facing. Faililng that my next best guess was having a flaming koala run under my rear tyre in panic after being doused in 2-stroke oil and set alight by Sibbo!

The net result of all the crashing was a few scrapes, a fix needed for Danno's gear shift lever and one broken indicator for me - that was it!

After the day's festivities we returned back to the mckoy st hilton and celebrated the day with a few quiet ales (although it appears some bastard stole the rest of the carton!), a bucket of KFC graciously provided by muzz and a great deal of BS! Ash turned up to the track in the arvy and came out for a few beers, then drove us back to his hotel where we helped him with the contents of his bar fridge! 8)

Sunday dawned rather early and back off to the track again for another day of racing. Good action to see and a decent crowd turn out meant a very enjoyable day, which was even wrapped up by 4pm meaning we could get back on the road and into melbourne before 8.

So I'm fairly stuffed now, but the first beer of the evening is going down well, and I'm looking forward to the next one. Roll on Bairnsdale! 8) :D

Yep, sliding took on a whole new meaning for me on Saturday. It was not quite cubic dollars, but when I get round to fixing the bits I ground off, there will be less beer in the fridge that week.

Sibbo's flaming acts and 3 out of 4 taking sliding lessons made it worth a look. The track had excellent traction (yes, it was operator error that caused my oopsy-daisy), to the point I actually got some peg scrape going on (while the tyres were still in contact with the ground :D ). And if an old fart like me can do that, you youngin's have no excuse.

Ash had some lame ass excuse about having to work... and didn't even bring up his bike to ride  ! Good thing he offered the contents of the mini-bar at his hotel, or there would have been some sledging. 8)
I also think Sibbo and Ash now share the line honours for most slides on a ride day, 2 a piece :prayer: .

KFCats, a missing or evaporating slab :drinking: , way too much laughing and BS story telling. What I can't figure out is why out of 120+ members (you international guys are excluded) there weren't more riders for the 'street class' as we became to be known by :wtf: .

When is the next event?

OK, now for some truth to the matter of the weekend. I only caught fire cos I was so dam HOT :!: My little powerful two stroke was struggling to not spin up the smallest rear tyre in history. It was actually a front tyre from some dodgy 70's bike, and I was leaning off the edge of the tyre, which gave me a VERY small contact patch. The front tyre was a bit better, I don’t think I had any moments with it.

So, if you want to give motard a go, get a fatter rear than 110!!

I am blaming Neil for my fire, cos he was teasing me by not going heaps faster than me, so I thought I had a chance of catching and passing him. Little did I know, that was his plan :!: Bloody 4 strokes baiting me and forcing me to put on a show for the crowd.

Well what happened was.....um......one of the tyres let go during the middle of the corner and the bike slid on its titanium foot peg creating massive amounts of sparks, which ignited the fuel that came out of the overflow from the carb. I was dancing to put the fire out and did not see the flames on the bike!!! The drain pipes for the carb were on fire, but a bit of glove action saw to them.

Thinking about it, the back must have let go. That would allow the back to come around and have the overflow pipes putting fuel down for the peg to spark over.

Any way, no damage, it’s a two stroke!! And the rest of the day was taken a bit slower, especially after Ash made me crash a second time. He did this by having a camera pointed at me!!! That crash was because being a dick head and riding don’t mix!

The track was tight and ace fun and the two stroke made for good wheelies, which Danno tried to ride under one time! Stoppies were also fun, which Muzz tried to ride under! I think i was a bit of a menance out on the track, between spraying people with oil and being out of control.

It was all good mate

I think sibbo shows a good case in point though, you don't have to spend mega bucks to go out and have some fun, and if you do fall off then all you do is learn some new dance moves! But in all seriousness, sibbo was having a damn good crack and that was with dodgy tyres on, so even if you just spent the extra $100 or whatever for something a bit more, err, not crap then you'd probably have no dramas at all :D

For all you others that missed out, here's an overhead pic of the track at wodonga:

And for anyone interested in lap times, here are some dodgey calculations for you ... my average speed in the latter sessions was around 55 kph, but my earlier sessions with sibbo were only off by a couple of kph (53) and danno, who was flying, was up around 57. According to the track info online at the VKA the wodonga track is 746m long (assuming they are measuring the long track and recording lap times against that).

That puts sibbo around the mid 50's, me around the high 48's and danno in the low 47's. Muzz was flying around as well, but his speedo wasn't able to stop itselft from snapping half much less recording an average speed  However, to put that in perspective, the slowest kart lap record around the track is a 39.9  I have no idea what the fellas with numbers on their bikes were doing, but no doubt quicker than that, although it would be interesting to know how fast the slower of the non-experts were :P

My max speed down the short straight was 105kph, danno was something like 500kph from his berger rocketship and sibbo wouldn't know even if he had a speedo drive off the front since his front wheel was never on the ground

Damn that was fun - when's the next one again? :D

Any pics in the gallery yet?... I need to get a bigger bike, or fit my good engine. :D Felt quick enough through the corners but lacked the speed down the straights. Would be good to have our own lap timing set up even if we share the transponder bike to bike to have our own records of track times for each rider to evaluate their own performance throughout the day. Unfamiliar tracks dont get the times riders are able to achieve with regularity. If it kicks off and we see more of these track days, it gives us a control time for each participating rider for each track...
Was keen to see if Danno could see a 60 kph average lap speed and at 58 kph average he was already flying down the straights, at times I could see him on the opposite side of the track and thought I better pull my finger out or he'd catch me during that session! I was behind him coming onto the back straight in one session and he was generously signing the roadway for the kartclub! But I couldnt hang with him down the straight.
Being under geared and 2 stroke we all had no problem overcoming Sibbo at any point on the track, so he resorted to blocking racing, or any line for that matter, with the swinging and airborn rear end of his bike! Nice stoppies Sibbo, by the way your carb overflows look like they are charred!
Wait til Neil gets the cams and bigbore into the DRZ and it too will be a force on the track days. I would tend to agree with Neils assumption regarding the rear tyre being ragged on the left from chain rub, as I have ridden a few times with Neil and usually behind and watching tyre contact patches, peg clearances, seat position etc, he is a good balanced rider and with previous track experience, and the tyre relationship is unequal in lateral bias therefore not offering the lean angle to the left as to the right because of lack of treaded area from the chain rub. I removed the Avon Azaro from my WRF because I had to trim off 12 mm of treaded surface to stop the chain therefore the tyre was deceptive in lean circumstances left to right and dangerous on fast twisty roads...
...Racing wise Troy Herfoss was the man yesterday no doubt! His dirt track heritage shines through, one of the smoothest riders to watch and in my opinion able to take it to the world stage. His style would fit nicely in the European Husky scene, rides like Eddy Seel...

Oh, and while unloading the van in the backyard last night, I came back out for another load of stuff to find the car alight in the dashboard and thought to myself, FAAARRRRKKKK! and then disconnected the battery. When the smoke cleared it would seem to look like Sibbo's carb overflows and rooted in there... Radio short I think...

Gallery pics will go up this evening ... I just need to cut them down a bit but don't want to resize them so I can avoid loosing detail due to the lack of zooming aparatuses on said camera thingo.

Your WR didn't seem bad down the straight compared to my drz tho muzz, but that might be something to do with the extra weight on the bike. Err, damn heavy things those DRZ's eh?  But Danno was in a league of his own at anything resembling a slightly straight bit and still flying through the windy stuff.

I was sitting behind him at one stage going through the right hand kink coming onto the pit straight (after the left hand hairpin) and all I saw was black marks from the tyre, front wheel hovering in the air and a buckin' and a weavin'. I couldn't but notice my bike not doing that  I wanna berger! :D

Might see if I can get a tyre swapped over as the pilot on the back is looking about worthy for a burnout and that's about it. Have a spare GPR70 still waiting so might throw that in before bright this weekend.

How far can you offset a rim just with tightening and loosening the spokes? I've got 7mm clearance between the chain and the left hand side of the tyre and about 17mm between the right and the swingarm, so I reckon I could move it to the right by 5-7mm and make it 12-14mm/12-10mm which might make it a bit easier on the tyre. Just not sure if you can do that much easily or if its new spokes and other assorted things? :-k
