Just had a practice run today at Midland Speed Dome and two 2012 SMR's turned up, the boys ordered them in June and they arrived a couple of weeks ago.

nice! :) I wonder how these would compare against a 2012 450sx special edition bike with supermoto gear on it.

Special order from KTM iirc, take wad of cash to dealer, ask them to order one, wait many many moons.

to be honest a bit confused over the '12 smr. same frame/swingarm. you'll need to replace the brakes and the mx would let you have a 6pot. suspension you'd prob get done anyway and it could benefit from different clamps and the stock wheels are a tad heavy. it's a good stocker don't get wrong but almost seems like they could have tried harder and built a full on bling machine with great bits.

$12,500 is what they cost, this is cheap when you take off the price of a set of Dunlop slicks that they come standard with. Adjustable triple clamps, slipper clutch, 16.5 front wheel, Supermoto specific suspension, the Magura brakes are just a bonus.
Behr rims are standard and if you need to replace, they make a good second set for wets.
Start converting a 2011 SXF and watch your money disappear.

Good point. it sounds like a whole lot of bike when you put it like that. i love the idea of supermoto specific suspension straight out of the box. Now all you need to do is take some photo's of them for us.

you can pickup a '11 450sxf with little use for $7500 maybe less. that money could still go a long way if you were going to replace the stock bits anyway. if you had the bits (i do) this is the way I'd go. to start from scratch you're right.

The third rule of Motard club is to never keep receipts! I think the SMRs are pretty good value, admittedly they need some work done but nothing is ever ready to race out of the box.

This so true, just got caught with a heap of receipts by the wife and she compared it to the amount I spent on her for Valentines . Hide receipts or just do not get them when you purchase parts /bling:evil::evil: / gear.

I think most of us can relate to this! :p

Your wife just has to accept that your bike is higher on the pecking order, and check her receipts for how much she spent on you, it is a two way street after all.
