Between a few of our Members here, we have an idea of a State series for Super Moto in 2012.
While this is still under discussion, it is a fairly sure thing as long as we have the numbers and suport of our riders here in SA and also be nice to get a few interstaters to contest it aswell.
Here is the basic idea as it stands:-
Round 1 - Collingrove Hill Climb (Bitumen) March 2012
Round 2 - Master Of Mac Park (Road race Meet) Mt Gambier September 2012
Round 3 - SA Super Moto Championship Tailem Bend (Dirt & Bitumen) November 2012
Points will be accumulated over the 3 rounds so at the end of the year, a SA Series winner of each class gets to take home the egg cup and butter dish! (Trophy)!
We still need to confirm dates and availability of circuits but above is what we are hoping for.
We will cater for racers, road riders and track day riders, classes will be sorted to accomodate for all types.
2011 was a good year here in SA for Super Moto as numbers grew from around 10 riders at the begining of the year to 40 riders at the last 2 events held.
So stay tuned and support us if you are able.
Please remember, if you don't tell us what's wrong or what is good, we can't fix it or step it up, so make sure you have a say on what you would like to see for 2012.
"Oldskool" and "Twatty" are our Atujaras Super Moto Reps here so let the guys know how we are doing.
Also if you wish to get involved with the running of such events, make sure the guys know you are keen and all help would be greatly appreciated.
It has been great to see offers of assistance from interstate Clubs aswell and this offer is also greatly appreciated.
We will no doubt call on you guys for advice when needed.
Thanks.
Cheers,
Brett Metcalf

Guys that's brilliant news, keep us posted on dates as we are trying to put a calendar together in NSW too and will try not to clash, we're having a meeting tomorrow to thrash out the dates. How exciting is this???
NSW, Qld and SA events - don't tell me supermoto is asleep!!
Great news people, it's great to see supermoto growing in other states. This kind of gradual growth pushed forward by passionate enthusiasts is the way to build a great foundation for our sport.
Well done to all the Atujara faithful, I know how much work is involved!
As SM93 has stated, if the Qld Supermoto Subcommittee can be of any assistance, feel free to shout out.

Hey mate, I'll be 'racing' with my headlight and street tires fitted, there's no need to spend $$$ to have FUN:D
More kids means a bigger pit crew right?!

Mate, I'd much rather see you on the mega-bling machine;) out on the track, but we will need all the help we can get, these events don't run themselves and we won't be able to rely on people from other disciplines like we did at A-XXX.
Many hands make light work, and waving flags is actually fun (close ups of the antics people get up to) and is a great way of watching what the fast guys do so you can go faster:up:
Plus it's SEXY!

Glad to see this all coming to fruition. I remember the hushed rumours flying around years ago about the TB facility, kudos to everyone for making it happen. So many things in SA are lost or forgotten due to the snails pace of developement. That being said, when something actually gets off the ground it is usually very good.

Hello peoples,
We've had to hold off letting too many details out about this until we got confirmation on a few issues, but here is the news you've all been waiting for;
Atujara MCC presents the 2012 SA Supermoto race series, 3 rounds of racing over 3 different disciplines.
· Rd1 Collingrove Hillclimb 18th March 2012
· Rd2 Master of Mac Park 29/30th September 2012
· Rd3 Tailem Bend Motorsport Park 2nd December 2012
The following classes will be on offer within the series;
· S1
· S2
· S3
· S4
· Clubman S1
· Clubman S2
All classes are as per the manual of motorcycle sports(MoMS), with the exceptions of the addition of clubman classes and a restriction placed on the S4 class, stipulating that S4 supermoto machines must be fitted with DOT approved road tyres (no knobbies as per supermoto GCR’s or slicks). MoMS can be downloaded here; http://www.ma.org.au/index.php?id=1770 (http://www.ma.org.au/index.php?id=1770) , all riders are encouraged to familiarise themselves with GCR’s to avoid being turned away from an event due to poor preparation, but if anyone has any issues getting their bike ready for an event there is a wealth of experience in the club, you only need to ask and someone will have the answer for you.
Entry form and Supp regs for round 1 available here; http://atujara.org.au/?cat=6

Yup, me and a certain grumpy ol' bastard in Victoria both reckon you've gotta think outside the square to move forwards in this country.
I've already got some cool ideas for the 2013 series, but for that to happen we need this years series to be HUGE! So all you interstate guys need to load up the ute/trailer/long range tank and get your arses over to SA and be part of history in the making!
i cant make rd1 but i should be there for rd2 and rd3 especially :)

can i enter in both S1 classes?
..
I kinda blew this question off in the other thread, but I really shouldn't have.
The intent for the series is for guys to only run one rider/bike combo per class ie; 2 guys can share a bike as long as they're in different classes, and any rider can run in multiple classes on different bikes, but for an S1 rider to sandbag in clubman S1 as well would be jack and beer fines issued. My understanding of how the hillclimb is run would nullify any point to doing this anyway, as I believe it's a matter of doing your run then lining up for your next run, so the number of runs you get does not double if you enter 2 classes. Dumpy may correct me it I'm wrong.
Same thing for Rd.2. All supermoto's will be running in the formular Mac class, so it's all in. We may have enough numbers to split into our own group of formular Mac, but the races I've done in that class were awesome, running with 125/250 GP bikes, 600SS, 1000cc superbikes, nakeds and RD/RZ/LC smokers on your dirt bike is great fun.
And lastly Rd.3 at TBMP we may need to run some classes together depending on entries, so if someone was entered in S1 and clubman S1, it would be tricky to score if those classes were running together.
Any question is a good question, so if anyone has one, this is the place to raise them.

As Twatty said above,
Any Question is a good question!
The Hill Climb is run a little differently than a normal road race or Super Moto race and due to it being a timed run and only 1 or 2 bikes on the hill at the same time, it is possible for 2 riders to ride the same bike BUT you need to each have a different number on the bike for your run.
For example we had 3 riders share a Quaud last time and a 3 digit number (321) was run with 2 of the numbers covered up for the first run (ie.-3), then when the first rider returned another number was uncovered (ie.-32 and then when that rider returned the last number was uncovered (ie.-321).
The reason this is needed, is because the timing is not done by transponder but light beams and the bikes number is typed in by manual entry. (ie. a person!)
The classes for the Hill Climb generally runs with bikes in classes, such as Road bikes, sidecars, Super Moto, juniors etc.
This one will run the same but for the purposes gaining points for the SA Super Moto series all your sub classes are run within the "Super Moto" group. (ie. S1, S2, S1 Clubman, etc.)
so you need to enter the sub class applicable to you.
If you enter 2 0r 3 0r 4 bikes in the "Super Moto" Category (ie. a 250cc, a 450cc and a 660cc), then yes you will get that number of runs up the hill and let me tell you (from experience) that entering 4 bikes is too many and you will be fair buggered after that, but value for money is awesome!8)
Remember, each bike requires its own number, so entries received first will get their number preferences.
(Only one displayed number is really required for this event (ie. Front number plate).
So really, the bottom line is, if you have 2 or 3 bikes, then enter them all! Super Moto, Roadie & mini moto!
Hope this may have clarified it a little???
Keep posting questions if you have any.
Cheers,
Dumpy:D

Ok, seems to be a few questions out there regarding entering the Collingrove Hill Climb, so hopefully I might be able to shed a little more light for a few of you.
Yes, the Hill Climb can be entered on a one event licence.
If you wish to get a national Licence for the year to run all the ride days, race events, etc., then I would suggest you get on it and get on the Motorcycling South Australia website, download the licence forms and get it sorted ASAP, as MSA require 2 weeks to process a licence and the Hill Climb is only a few (3 weeks) away!
Yes you can enter more than one bike, so if you have 2 motards then enter both, or if you have a 2012 600cc roadie and a 1928 125cc Harley, then enter them too!
(The more rides you get up the hill, the better it becomes.:D)
You need to remove side stands and rego plates but lights and indicators can be taped up.
Tyre warmers are allowed (They are definitely not a necessity), however if you do have them, you will need to bring your own generator as power is not available at the circuit for warmers.
Not much shelter up there, so a pit tent of sorts is always a good idea.
Yes, we follow the 2012 Manual of Motorcycle sport (Road racing) rules, but as the Hill Climb is essentially one bike on the course at a time, the rules are a little more relaxed.
If an effort has been made to comply and the machine is safe according to the scrutineer then you will have no issues.
PLEASE, if you have any questions regarding any of the rules or how you need to make your bike comply, please grab a copy of the 2012 Manual of Motor Cycle Sport and have a quick read and if that still confuses you, PLEASE just ask and we will be able to answer your questions.:D
This whole event is a very relaxed and FUN day as you are only competing against the clock and NOT racing others on the track at the same time.
So if you want an easy introduction into racing, then this is the event you need to be in.
For the Hill Climb, only one race number is required to be displayed (Front number plate) and if you have a preferred number then the earlier you get your entry in, the better chance you have of securing it!
Remember we are limited to 60 entries, so if your thinking about it, then get it in, so you don't miss out.
See the post below for links to the entry form.
Help us get the word out there by printing off a poster and get it into your local pub or shop!
Look forward to seeing you all there in a few weeks.
Cheers,
Dumpy.

Few questions.
Coolant. MoMs says water only, 24.3.1.7, internet says water wetter is ok?? If water only, then no over flow required?
Fuel tank breather. MoMs, 24.3.1.10, says a non-return valve and must run into a catch tank of 350cc or more. My fuel tank was exhausting the other day when it was hot, i assume the one way valve is to stop fuel going out? Is the little ball bearing type that pushes onto the cap enough? http://images.motorcycle-superstore.com/ProductImages/300/0000_Factory_Effex_Gas_Tube_Vent_Cap_With_Tube.jpg
No where in the MoMs can i find anything about carb breathers. Are they required to go to a catch can. I have put mine to a catch tank with a breather going to the top of the airbox.
These questions also relate to Mac Park races also, not just the hillclimb which is a little more relaxed, but while ive got the enthusiasm i want to get it all done now.
Rumble - the simple way to look at the catch-can rule is:
If it is a fluid and it can leak from your bike onto the racetrack, there should be a catch-can there to catch it.
Coolant should be water only as per the MOMS. You still need a catch-can as water is slippery - but obviously not as slippery as coolant.
The fuel tank breather you have posted is all good.

From the Prez,
Evening all.
We are in desperate need of a Commentator or 2 for this weekend up at Collingrove as our usuals are not available.
It is not a hard job and you will have a mobile Mic. so you can walk through the pits and talk to riders etc. to make it a little more interesting.
With out the Commentator, the day becomes a bit boring for spectators, so PLEASE if you want to have a go at it or know somebody who might, then please let me know ASAP.
It looks as if we will also need a pit announcer to call up riders for their heats.
Thanks,

What a hoot !!!!!!!! never thought racing up a hill in less than 40 seconds could be so much fun and Twatty's on the money, as addictive as hell!
Best day ever riding and camping/socializing on the saturday night with a great bunch of guys and gals.
52 entries overall including one junior (quad) and 27 supermoto's taking part in Round 1 of the 'SA Supermoto Series 2012'.
Many thanks to all the Atujara members who put in the hard yards to make the Collingrove Hillclimb a great success. Twatty, Dumprun and Big Roost especially for organizing and doing the thinking stuff
Thanks to our sponsors, Boltons Kawasaki Adelaide, Power Brakes, Jarrett Nissan, Trackside Tyre Service, Oakbank Hotel, the private sponsors who donated money and time, Tgp450 for distributing the posters and all the spectators, 1st time racers and seasoned riders who helped make this an awesome event. Also thanks to Tegart Racing and Sac for making the trip from Vic to support the event.
Twatty has pics and I'm sure a review of the day will follow soon.
Bring on Round 2 !!! :roost:
Almost forgot, Greeny.. well I won't rub it in mate :p
Great work to all that got out there and raced, it looked like a fun little track and a motard is the ultimate hillclimb bike.
Got to see if we can figure out a Qld hillclimb for 2013....

Rowan has numerous dirt track titles to his credit and is one of the more technically correct riders to watch.
Its a credit to the hours of practice and dedication by his father Ray in preparing his machines.
Watching Rowan and Ben Nicolson riding at Top Gear was one of the best spectacles I have witnessed in motorcycle sport.
They tortured the tyres there too ;)

Awesome track, looks like great fun.
A hillclimb in QLD would be sweet............Mt Cotton hillclimb would be great fun but has just a little less run off
The event looks like it was great. A hillclimb sounds like fun but I don't know whether Mt Cotton would be an option.

Well the Collingrove Hillclimb incorporating round 1 of the SA Supermoto Race Series 2012 has been run and won.
And what a day, perfect weather, only 1 trip to the ambulance (it was a quad:roll:) and a grid that saw Norton 500's lined up next to CR500 powered sidecars, the latest in RR and SM technology, and even an XL200 built for salt racing. It was great to see plenty of spectators made their way out for the day, and judging by the body language and huge grins were loving finding out what 'them motards' are all about. There was also a group of people that were trying to optimise their view of both the burnout area and the track, so of course the riders were happy to oblige with spreading the fragrant scent of dunlop trough the air:D (Special thanks to supermoto1 for being the official burnout starter  )
This year was my first collingrove event, and even though you only get about 7 minutes of real riding, it is one of the best things I've ever done on a motorcycle, and is well worth the money.
Thanks again to all the guys and girls who contributed to the organisation and running of the event, thanks to the guys who came out and had a look even if they weren't riding, but most of all thanks to my brothers in arms who put the bit between their teeth and threw themselves up the hill in anger, only we will know how good it really was. And believe me, supermoto stocks are rising massively with SA clubs and track owners right now because YOU are coming out and doing ridedays and races, so keep it up!
OK, here's some pics, I was trying to get the vid together, but that will have to wait till later. Special thanks to Mel from Tegart Racing for lugging my camera over the countryside to bring you these :up:

Anyone that thinks their too old to go out & have fun on their motard should think again.
Let's see more of us older riders at the track.

Unfortunately made for a short day for the Banshees.
Should of had a top 10 shoot out for the Quad class and then the mighty Blaster would of seen a first pace trophy instead of 3rds to you each year.

Hope ya bruises are healing with some nice colour to them.
