I will endevour to get in touch with the new operators this week to finalise something for the immediate future here.
All the same, with the great weather we had then other day and a BBQ too it was a really enjoyable no stress day.
Who's coming on the 14th if we are still OK to go?
And BBQ ideas?

Wobbly
02-10-2006, 03:13 PM
I'll be there of course :)

As far as bbq goes, I'd recommend cooking something then eating it ;) Actually I think the pasta salad and bbq on the little 3 footer worked fine, so all I'd recommend to change is for us to do a whip around and buy muzz and tania lunch instead of the other way round :)

Work commitments are heavy at the moment, finances are under stress, I'm not making excuses but if i can get there i will. Yes i will second Neil's opinion, we pay for Muzz & Tania's lunch.

I'm in.
Everything else can go get stuffed.
I have a few corners to work on. :)
So much for those bolt on peg sliders, I can't afford a new set every second weekend, lol. :(

I AM IN!!!

On condition that Jake can get the tyres to me on time, which is veeerrrrry likely right now.

So, I'll have big wheels, but they wont be knobblies, if it goes ok, might just motard the sucker

Bring it on!

I should be able to make it. Like zulufoot I'll have big wheels, but I'm busting for a go and (like zulufoot) if it works out I might be on the lookout for some little, fat wheels.

Sat was great. It was good to meet everyone out there and get a feel for the supermotard scene. The no-pressure-in-your-own-time attitude is reasuring. Can't wait for next time...

Not only will Murray be on the dodgy dual purpose tyres :D

I will be along with some sort of bike/camera/car/running shoes 8)

You have spent all this money on bikes, a Husky you can't ride because its out of warranty, I would be so fucking pissed off with Husqvarna, and a YZ125 that is forever in bits having new pistons and top end rebuilds.

The YZ has needed a piston for a while I just haven't had the spare cash to get it done!
The end of the day I bought a race bike to commute on it did OK considering (except the master cylinders)
If the 610 had been out I would have bought that instead!!

Now I'm starting to get really confused.
Ash you said to me you couldn't ride any track days firstly because you had a training run for the Nascar deal and couldn't afford to get hurt, then you said you couldn't afford to damage your bike so you couldn't bring it, and get hurt, then you said the bike was out of warranty and you didn't want to break it but ride it work like everyone else does before and after a track day.
You couldn't bring the YZ because even as far back as Sibbo borrowing the wheels from my bike, the YZ needed a rebuild but you have ridden it since several times by the posts, and when its done being rebuilt, your going to Nunawading to do MX and you could still get hurt there and ruin your chances of a Nascar deal.
You said about your Husky being a race bike etc,
My WRF isn't a traily you know mate, and did over double your Huskys k's on the first engine and was ridden every day further than you were going.
So you said you would have bought the 610, did you now, or was that just dreaming?
I just dont understand some reasoning there, but I dont have to, your the one that said these things and I am just having trouble grasping the whole concept of motorcycle usage at this bizarre level :?
Can you help me with some of these points?

OK not using the YZ is a combination of both injury and money! When you were lending your wheels out I had no idea the schedule for the NASCAR I could have been tested any day (almost) on top of this I needed to pull the motor apart and measure the clearance (which I needed some spare time to do and it has now been done) I haven't really been worried about being hurt on the motard but yes once the warranty ran out I was a little concerned about the 450 having a major failure. If that had happened I currently wouldn't have had the cash to repair it so that would mean I would have to walk to work. (Fat chance) On top of this if it had happened I would have had to sell it for what ever I could and buy a car. Which would mean no bike for a few years (if I would be allowed to get one at all) so do a few track days and risk not having a bike for a while, why not? Hey it will be fine you'll have 1 extra rider for a couple of weeks for sure. Now that is short term thinking isn't it. At least I come along to support almost every track day I'm not working on top of this I have been posting on several other sites to help get numbers as well!
I believe the bike would have been fine but due to the past I didn't want to risk it, OK!

I am hoping to get the YZ built in the next month or so but it still won’t be used until after November regardless (due to injury) as I have another date that I am being tested.

I have used my YZ 3 times this year and about the same last years and yes, it pisses me off. I work 6 days a week and the other is now usually taken up with working else ware. I wish I could fuck this house off

The other thing (this year) is that the NASCAR test has been dragging out, but it is due to lack of support buy the Australian companies and it now seems that the American companies are a lot more interested so things are looking good. And it's not worth doing a few days of MX If I don't know when the next time I'm required to get in a car in case I get injured.

Oh yeah If the 610 was available when I bought the 450 I would have got that! I don't know how you read that before :?

For the record I have never been scared of being injured and I am still not but I don’t want it to fuck up the first real opportunity I have had!!!

Well I found my clutch problem - all 4 springs are about 1mm under the minimum service limit :lol2: I also think they had a couple of the thrust rings/washers around the wrong way. Good news is that the friction pad thickness is still just inside the lower limit of the new spec and well up on the minimum serviceable limit. Coudn't be bothered checking the steel plates for warpage since I haven't had any shudder from it.

Will have to order up some new springs from scotty tomorrow and find out whether I can get a quick rear shock rebuild  Still haven't decided on heavier springs, new forks or just some big ass bits of PVC pipe to act as preload spacers... :-k

Next track day is looking good, after watching the video footage i have a lot to work on, posture, seating position etc. Thanks Neil. Murray, your welcome :D , it makes a great avatar. Hopefully i can get some slides happening. The big dr needs to go on an anorexic binge, too heavy & way underpowered, am not sure whether to do the convert or wait a bit & get another bike, drz perhaps, rm would be nice too but no highway then.
Decisions, biggest decider will be how financial i am in the new year.
I'll just plod along with the beast till the gearbox blows or the motor, whichever comes first :) I intend to come a bit earlier, wont be waiting on anybody this time, just have to get myself there, extra time extra practice. Work should be under control by then, only thing that will stop me is if its raining, highly unlikely.

Its shaping up to be a good day,
Rip off whatever you dont need to make it run on Friday mate.
Like the stand, you already left half of that and the footpegs there,
indicators if its easy and the tailpiece from the back of the guard with your number plate on.
You know what I mean mate, strip it. And put it in Jakes trailer.
I pulled the WRF apart today to start to service it (need a tyre before friggin' oil and filter though) and thought I might also take another gearset with me for a try.
I will have to get the countershaft nut to the point I can remove it trackside since I fitted it with the rattle gun last time.
I think the 13 tooth sprocket might suit the WRF better with the 44 rear, shorten it right up so I can use a few more gears in different corners where I cant get the right revs now

Hey guys if all goes to plan, the weather and all, I'll be there with bells on too. I've tee'd up some leathers and boots. Now all I need is to play with my suspension setup......ie change the std settings and test ride over the next week on the street.
Also what tyre pressures are you using on the track?
Muzz I read some where you're running as low as 22psi in the front, is that just with the tyres you're using? or is it the same for road tyres as well? Also what about the rear tyre pressure?
Thanx in advance

Mark

Wobbly
05-10-2006, 08:35 PM
Tyre pressures probably depend on how hard your pushing things along ... motards can run fairly low pressures due to their light weight ... I'd start at around 26 and see how you go ... as you get faster you can drop the pressures more as you'll work the tyres more and they'll get to the same hot pressure through being warmer...

SMC690
05-10-2006, 08:36 PM
You have a GPR70 on the back and a 207 Sportsmax on the front Mark?
I'd be going 30-32 front and 36 rear for tarmac work with those Dunlops.
But that's just me.
I have a tyre gauge on me at GPTC so you can try both. :)
Servo next door to pump them up again.....

Edit: (Doh, Neil posted underneath me and suggested something different anyway)!!

I'm going to sit in the corner now.

Wobbly
05-10-2006, 09:14 PM
That's ok mate :) I'd certainly run those pressures on the road, on the track i'd drop them down a bit, but personal preference has a lot to do with it ... I would run the GPR's at about 24-26psi on the KR1 at the island, though it tends to gerenate a fair bit of heat. The best bet is to start at a given pressure and try more or less and just see how things go :)

Fortunately there's a servo just around the corner ;)

dicky
05-10-2006, 09:17 PM
I ran the Rennsports at 24psi front and rear, they were great.
I don't run the MT60R's down that far, they feel 'uncertain' below about 28.
Like Neil said, have a run, see how it feels, alter to suit.

dicky.

Muzzard
06-10-2006, 09:31 AM
Mark, I run the pressures pretty low like Shane does too most of the time as on the track and one as short as GPTC you want them heating up fast, putting a big patch onto the ground and stay as warm as possible and as stable as possible to limit heat cycle case deterioration.
Most cases can be run that low, but there is the compromise of feeling sometimes a little spongy until worked up...
I weave at least 2 laps to warm the front before getting into it and it seems fine.
Rear at 24 PSI mate ;)
