Noise restrictions at lakeside?
90db noise restriction..
$35/half day, 9.00am-12.00pm or $50/full day, 9.00am-4.00pm..
Also
$20 day license or $55 yearly license (license valid for 12 months from date of purchase).

90db noise restriction..
.
Bummer
Just stuff your can with some stainless steel wool, it will kill the power a bit, but being quite tight wont matter that much.
Will try and make it myself.

I am still keen to give Lakeside a crack now that i have bike that I can silence and still retain an acceptable level of performance.
Now for the excuses...picking up a set of Motard wheels next week (complete setup, with slicks) but this absolutely cleans me out $$ wise so in the short term I'm doing a few bush rides.

Gave ya a buzz this arvy, I have to pay for my wheels tomorow but as it's southside I'll likely get a mate to hold 'em for me and I'll pick 'em up Satdy.
I remain flexible at this point, whatever happens I'll have 'em on this weekend. Bike is handling shite with these knobbies, think my headtstem bearings are gone (or maybe the steering damper) as with the bike on stand and front wheel off ground, when I move handlebars right, they bind a little and actually feel like they are stuck.
I have to force it to go around corners
So how much longer is lakeside and what kind of top speed should I be chasing?
Lakeside - 700m
Archerfield - 250m
I reckon 130km/h isn't unobtainable..

Short answer..
No..
Long answer..
Got to the track, Nick C was the first person to turn up and as I'm looking at his bike and see the Gopro mount, I think fuck it, forgot my camera and Gopro.. However, Nick C's mate who was the guy in the fluro vest wondering around said he'll get some up on the SWS page..

SWS@Lakeside 18/9/11 - YouTube
Apologies for the camera angle. Its pointing down a bit too much. You get to see my pretty new gloves though..
I wasnt able to upload in 720, as the video was totally fucked over by itunes crashing when trying to open it... I wasnt able to view it any other video viewer / editor after that... I was able to convert the video to iphone quality, which is what I uploaded. Hence.. 360p.
Turn 1 "incident" with Mal is around 2:20ish. :D I thought I had gone down 2 gears, but it only did one, and wasnt quite slowing me down enough.. Mal was kind enough to point me in the right direction however ;)
I wasnt able to keep up at all with Ron and Mal. Way too quick for me; got lots to learn yet :)

bandy
22-09-2011, 06:27 PM
I never new you needed lockwireing either .
I normaly just ride my wr there and borrow a 12 mm socket
and take the side stand off .
The only thing lockwired on the WR is the catch can and sump plug.
I enjoyed the footage too , Werius .
I've been ginning around with the rmz and some baffles to shut it up so
i reckon i might have it tarded in the next 3 or 4 weeks.
Be fun to see if it is going to work as its been lowered for flatrack.
Looking forward to the 2nd oct for another ride at Lakeside.
And , No, Dafunk , your not having a go on my bike you hoon.
Buy yourself some yummy tyres:D
Righto..
Lockwiring is not essential. Those rules were published 2 years ago, I have gone into that thread and deleted it and altered some others.
The rules I altered mainly pertain to Minitard capacitys, it was changed from 160cc 4T to 180cc 4T. I also deleted all the race format crap.
The only things I'm really big on are sliders, catchcans and noise. Also my pet hate is seeing sliders completely worn away or nuts/bolts poking out of the slider, if your sliders look like that then get some new ones.
Sorry for any misunderstanding on this matter, carry on..

glen if you see this, can you please let me know if the factory weights in the bar ends of a DRZ are enough of a "plug"? They are rounded alloy weights.
The need for plugged bar-ends at SWS is twofold, firstly it's so you don't wad-punch part of your body if you land on the open end, secondly it's so you don't damage the track surface. As the standard bar end weights are steel, going by the SWS rules you will need to replace them with plastic ones to lessen the chance of damaging the track surface.
Glen might be able to clarify this further. Normally, Paul from Big-knobs is there and he usually has bar-end sliders, or check www.bigknobs.com.au and order them.
skinnywhiteguy
26-09-2011, 01:21 PM
Thanks daws. Was just wanting to clarify as the sws site says ends must be plugged or guards with sufficient plastic. Ill get on to bigknobs
Anyone know if the factory pookart sm fatbars are 14 or 17mm?
Paul is on the money.. Nylon/Delrin type bar ends only..
Also, mention my name and Lakeside and you will receive 'mates rates'..

yeah 70 bucks, if you have the stocky on that will be fine other than that an insert....
I might make a trip, just got to refit the stick exhaust to the Aprilia, fit some new slicks, add some brake fluid, change the chain, fit a new battery, change the oil, flush the radiator and blow the dust off it... It's been a while ;)

I'm in. My first track day so be gentle.... The SMC finally sees the track! Now to get some talent between now and tomorrow morning....
Edit: may have been premature. SMC won't idle... Changed nothing except new fuel a few days ago. Thinking dodgy batch of ultimate. Has been down on power all week. But not idling is new. It stalled on the way to work this morning but I thought (in my 'get to work rush' that I'd simply stalled it). I put another 5L of fresh ultimate in tonight in hopes it'll mix with the bad batch and be semi-rideable for tomorrow. I hope. Otherwise I'll be spending tomorrow watching :/ It runs ok, it revs ok but has a serious flat spot around 3-4k. Hopefully I'll be above that tomorrow anyway.
Fingers crossed.
After a 15min reset it's idling but still rough. Here's hoping.

awesome awesome day had alot of fun!! great turnout and great competition, think i was the slowest but sliding into the first turn was great fun!!!, update on luke (guy who got hit) he has 7 broken ribs :( hope he gets well soon! looking forward to the next one in two weeks!!
what u mean guy who got hit??
aaron690
30-10-2011, 07:02 PM
Hope Luke gets well soon, as much as the guy on the CRF was racing too aggressively for his competition (yes, after reviewing the video Luke definitely got clipped on the 'bars), this is motorsport. However, my best wishes to him for a speedy recovery, the sound his helmet makes when it hits the Tarmac makes me shriek!
On a good note, it was an awesome turnout, heaps of people from SMAus and I didn't crash, which is a bonus! Thanks to all who made it fun and possible, especially for my first track day. A HUGE thanks to Brad for picking up me and my bike this morning too. And the loan of your gloves!
the use of phrase "racing too aggressively for his competition" scares me. u guys do realise its a just a track day right or is it actual racing now? might wait for u guys settle down a bit before gez and i head out

It's not as good as you might think. The wide angle of the GoPro meant that it happens too far in the distance. Can see F' all... As soon as I can I'll put as much of the complete videos as I can on Vimeo. You might all have to give me a few days to get them compressed and edited.
I'll put up a few shots tho from the videos.... Give me half an hour.

Hey Guys!
Luke is very appreciative of all the support, as am I. Thank you all soo so much for helping me load the ute/trailer so bloody quick! Was amazing.
It looks like he will be in hospital for a couple of days at least. There are at least 6, possibly 7 broken ribs, some of which are overlaying. There is also a chance that some of the broken ribs have done some other internal damage, but we dont have confirmation on that yet! He also chipped the C2(i think?) vertebrae but the doc isnt worried about it at all.
He is a bit sore and sorry, but theyve got him on a truckload of pain meds and its being managed really well.
The bike, amazingly is really really good... The sliders etc did the job! Wasnt any damage to the bikes plastics, wheels, brakes. The left barkbuster is wrecked, but its just plastic. The metal bar end looks fine. The bars dont even really feel bent... wtf?!
Jovian: It was just the one fella that was alot faster than the rest of us, and he was just a tad too aggressive on a track littered with novice riders. Its my understanding that he has clipped my brothers handlebars and its forced him to hit the deck. He could have made a really safe and clean pass on the straight after turn one without incident. Its just a friendly track day, not a race. Just a little bit more common sense was require I think.
Its a shame for sure for us to have ended our really fun day on a bad note!

Wish him all the best from me please Josh. He must've hit the deck pretty hard.

EDIT: Final render added.
Several mistakes in the video, but because the camera was set too low I haven't bothered doing an uber flash version of it.
Worth watching all the same. Sorry Jupey, the footage isn't good enough to see your slide :(

Looks like everyone likes the teaser best lol
So with help I've discovered that the camera angle was actually ok, but the import/export process of the video has cut it down. So, having said that, I'm going to redo both the teaser and the full video and update them later in the week, hopefully with the correct footage. Just gotta figure out why it did it.
Cheers for the comments.

I have a video from Sunday as well...but after seeing what Arron has made then this sucks...
But if you want to wast some time
here you go:
Minitard Lakeside 30-10-2011 - YouTube
On a different note...GPS was showing 104.45km/h down the straight on the minitard, need to mount it on one of the bike once to see what top you nut cases get!
.oO(Better get myself a GoPro HD:roll:...and a better mounting point)

Interesting perspective from a mini-bike!! You guys hit some pretty serious lean angles...
Yeah I love the GoPro HD. Had it for years, it's been through a few crashes and still works perfect every time.

So yours is a GoPro HD, thought it was a GoPro Hero2...wonder how got that would be! Properly only real good if you blow the picture big up! The 'standard' HD GoPro goes pretty cheap!

Mine is the Motorsport Hero HD 1080p
So not the first 720p go pro, but the full 1080p one. The vids I put up were recorded in 960p @ 30 fps but uploaded in 720p @ 30fps. Don't have a big enough SD Card to do a full day of 1080p.
I think the Hero 2 just has a better lens. Still records in. The same formats and qualities.
This is mine: http://www.hdactioncamera.com.au/hd-motorsports-hero-wide/

May not be riding at the next lakeside day guys and girls...
690 has a stalling issue. It's either fuel pump, injector or tps/eps sensors.
Going in for diags next week. While its there (if I survive the cost of parts) it'll be getting some power parts bling too. However! If I can't ride I'll be out there to watch/help out anyway if I'm needed.

Looks like the failure on the cr was a little worse than first thought. The estimated repair bill costs are mounting so it may be pushed to the back of the shed for a bit till funds come available. That said I'm out for at least a month or two.

Looks like a new Big end kit, resleve, piston kit. It looks like if I go ahead with it, it will almost double the total cost of the bike so far.

I did, I'll get them on the Faysebook or something soonish.

You're at Moorooka? Thought you were at Virginia?
Hmm, my fuel pump should still be under warranty if they are still running the same warranty thing. It's been replaced before and, for memory, replaced parts carry a 2yr warranty even if the bike is out of warranty...? Correct me if I'm wrong, but that was the case when I was doing KTM parts. And if that is case, my dash might need doing AGAIN soon also. I've got monday off and no way of getting back from Moorooka so on Tuesday I'll persevere with it and get it to work, then put it on the truck to get it over there.

nah im at virginia running the service department dunno about 2year warranty on parts pretty sure its 30 days if the bikes warranty has expired but if its still under warranty then they should hopefully be able to claim under warranty parts should be available

I love the video, might give something like that a go. I've also got a Gorilla Pod stand to mount somewhere on the track next time. Maybe inside turn 1 or something tight. Also thinking of getting a contour to run with the GoPro having one on the bike and another on the track somewhere so I can run overlays etc. See how I go for cash. It turns out doing videos doesn't come cheap and as far as hobbies go this one is getting expensive fast. But everyone is hounding me for another video :/
