Hiya,
Hoping somebody might be able advise me on the suspension for my YZ motard project. The rear suspension is shot and I'm sure the front could do with a good going over but I'm wondering how stiff it needs to be for road riding and maybe the cost of overhauling the lot.
Cheers :)

You can go from new oil and springs all the way through revalving if you want ... heavier springs for sure and maybe up the oil weight a bit to add some more dampening is a good cheap start. If you go for a stiff MX setup you're probably in the ballpark...

If your like me and like to do things as cheaply as possible, you can just rebuild the forks and shock and just set it up stiff.
My WRF is still on stock springs and only a few clicks from factory suspension settings just to get it comfortable and rideable in most conditions without alteration.
I should also add that its had the oil changed in the forks once in 3 years
I set the compression on the forks at 4 clicks firmer than stock, and the rebound up 2 clicks too.
The rear shock is set with the high speed compression 2 clicks firmer and the rebound 4 clicks firmer to stop the chatter on the road with traction variation on surfaces while sliding...
But I am the sort of bloke who just rides around suspension settings once I have had my fiddle after the first ride :?
Cant really afford to muck around with it when its your daily ride.
If it were track dedicated then the clickers would be shot by now I reckon from adjusting it for different tracks...

The YZ was good on standard MX suspension, just a bit more compression damping on the front was all that I changed.
But you need to get the old girl back to stock. So fork new oil, check spring lengths, get the shock oil changed and go from there.
