howdy guys, gals cats and kittens.
im nick.
im 18 and ive had my L's since july but still havent got a bike yet on account of YR12.
im after a learner legal bike (under 250cc ) that can be, or already is registered.
i'd love a supermotard or enduro bike because i dont like the idea of spending $5,000 on a 16 year old grey import spada or something thats seen 3 million users.
budget for the bike is in the $4,000 ish and below bracket.
any advice motorbike wise would also be greatly appreciated!!! ie is a supermotard a stupid idea for a learner?, will a conversion for an enduro 250 to supermotard break the bank?? etc etc etc.
-nick
Nick,
Any conversion is going to break your bank. Look at buying a pre motarded bike.
All 450 motards and some 650 motards are learner legal in NSW. It's pointless going into which brand and model is the best cause they're all so good these days. Just pick the best deal on offer at the time. But i'd say go with a 450cc four stroke pre tarded bike.
It's a pitty you just missed out on a VOR503 for $4,000 on ebay. Keep an eye on ebay for bargains. There's a 75hp TTR600    on there at the moment for $3000
Tom.

Hey nick - welcome mate. Where are you located? If you're in a LAMS state then your options are wide open... :!:

I think a motard would be great for your first bike, plenty out there as mentioned earlier EBAY, personally go a DRZ or a XR 400 for first ride, my 2 cents, reliable easy maintenance to get the ball rolling, you would be able to pick one up un tarded, ride, and save up some cash for a conversion!

I ride a WRF250 Yamaha and its not too slow or small for a motard let alone a first bike.
I have been riding for nearly 40 years now and still get a good buzz on the WRF...
There are some cheaper Chinese Import 250's coming in shortly that will be available as motards from me.
Price around $4000 brand new and supplied with your original wheels too.
They expect to be ADR compliant by the end of October this year so hold on if its a new bike you want. ;)

Aha, if your in victoria then you have to deal with the 250cc limit right? If so then I'd definately lean toward the WR250F and get it tarded, either on original hubs (add about 1500-1800 bucks to your puchase price) or on a new wheelset...
