Hey,
Just thought I would post up some pics of the next few mod's I have done to my bike and see what you think.

http://vsmr.net/albums/ktm/Stage2_1.jpg
http://vsmr.net/albums/ktm/Stage2_2.jpg
http://vsmr.net/albums/ktm/Stage2_3.jpg
http://vsmr.net/albums/ktm/Stage2_4.jpg
Added some KTM Hard Equipment Axle Sliders F & R.
Peg sliders, ASV C5 clutch lever, Stainless chainguard (I wan't to powdercoat it black but the Mrs said It look good like that) I dunno yet. Black plastics except for shrouds, not sure what to do with them yet, some custom flame shroud's might be the goods. :D
I added the billet case for the Veypor VR2 as I have now had issues with the waterproofing of the units. It stands out like dogs bollocks on the ram mount. I have to get some bigger clamps to mount the case to the bars as the tapers are bigger than the biggest clamps they could supply. I think anodising it black is also the go, it's too bright.
A brake upgrade is next on the front end with KTM 320mm Wave, Brembo 16mm Radial M/cyl with PT fold up lever. The idea with the cluch and brake levers is if I bin it up in the hills or on the track if all the 206 bones in my body are still intact then I can still make it home.
About to add a surflex slipper clutch that is tuneable with 3 different weight clutch springs and magnesium clutch cover to save some more weight.
Will report how they go too.
Cheers,
SMC.

Hey SMC,
Looks trick! :D
How good is the Veypor?
Could you give us a bit of info as I've been checking them out for a while but dont know anyone who has actually had one.
Also have you checked out the Braking Wave disk from KTM. I had one on my 640SM and it was awesome. Heaps thicker then stock giving much more feel, plus that cool hissing noise as you brush the brakes! And the fact they look trick!
Cheers,
Wobbly

Looks expensive :lol2:
So where's the N2O bottle? :-k
yobgow
12-09-2006, 10:03 PM
Yeah I agree they arent cheap. But...... you can keep it a swap it to your next bike, so I sorta is an investmant and it would give you a sorta benchmark from bike to bike.
Kno wot I mean?
SMC690
12-09-2006, 10:08 PM
nah, no nitrous at this stage, only medical grade in the loungeroom. ;)
TThe bike has loosened up so nice now, just on 3,000k's.
When I wear it out I will sick on 660 barrels, head and cam with a high comp piston.
I wonder if I can buy starter motors in boxes of 10. :)

I gotta admit, those Termis look awesome by for the trickest Ive seen on a 625. What sorta money did they set you back (If you dont mind me asking?).
Has anyone got a set of "Wings" mufflers?
SMC690
12-09-2006, 10:19 PM
The top spec carbon ones with titanium end caps RRP for $1995.
There is also:
C/Fibre with S/Steel ends.
Titanium sleeves with Ti end's
Ti Sleeve with S/Steel ends.
I have not yet seen Wings on 625/640 yet but seen plenty of Akro's.
I just wanted something different and these were obtainable.
I gave Paul (Supa4) a ride of the bike on the weekend, he has the 640SM 05/06.
As he was belting off up the road I couldn't believe how loud it is.

When it come's to the VR2 I think it's a great thing.
Support from the manufacturer is excellent and they answer all emails. They will email you custom firmware patches to match your odomoeter to your current bikes odom if you want to replace the stock unit.
One you get it sorted it's a heap of fun let alone funtionality.
I was datalogging Kinglake road when I hit the Kangaroo, and when examining the downloaded data with the windows VAS analysis software I hit the roo at 60kph and at .8 of a G. lol. After that all the graphs flatlined. :)
I wanted a tacho for the bike so I started researching all the options.
Acewell looked good as a basic unit.
Trailtech are doing a rip off of the veypor with a very similar name but no where near the features.
Motech or Magnetti Marelli dash's look nice but at the cost of an arm it makes it much harder to ride and if you bin it and destroy it you don't have to cry.
I think it's the pick of the bunch.
Dual stage shift light, Fuel functions with bar graph. Acellerometer of 0-60 (97kph) times. Best so far is 3.7.
I'm still sorting out the reliability of it in wet conditions.
I have had 2 of the VR2 unit's die on the way to work in heavy rain.
Both replaced by the Aussie importer no questions asked.
I commute 6 out of 7 days so I'm a fair beta tester for this thing.
Both have come good after a day or two an warm room.
I have added the billet case to to try to make it more waterproof and so far it's been fine.
I'll give it a proper wrap soon when I'm not so tired and if you come out on of the Sunday rides I'll give you a rundown.
I just found out it's Texas Tornado Grid Girl competition at goldfingers tonight. If I had known earlier you wouldn't be reading this post. :D
Adios,
Juz.

Looking at the Wings twin sets the other day.
Nice work, and cheaper than most by a bit.
For my money I would be having them without the carbon caps though.
Old skool, like the fat snout  ...

VR2 mounted to clamps on bar now, had trouble getting the right clamps to go around both the tapers at the 28mm point plus the lower cradle they sit in that bolts to the top triple clamp.
Sit's much lower now and I can still see my idiot lights.
I am about to replace all the idiot light globes with 12v LED's as I have gone through about 8 globes now and every time you put down a wheelie the globes pop out of thier sockets and no longer work. :)

You have totally bumfucked me now Juz.
Is the VR2 mounted directly to the clamps that also hold the bars into the cradle on the topclamp?
Better still take another super duper resolution piccy on the angle so we can see the mount point and post it up...
Thanks Juz. ;)

Nice work! :)
I just found out it's Texas Tornado Grid Girl competition at goldfingers tonight. If I had known earlier you wouldn't be reading this post.
Well, I braved the naked ladies and MotoGP stars - Top night! Almost as much fun as fitting new plastics!
Colin Edwards, John Hopkins, Alex Hoffman, Crusty and a few Australian Motorcycling luminaries were on top form and very approachable - Just like the ladies! Good to see that apart from HUGE amounts of skill on 2 wheels they are just like the rest of us.
Boobies!
back on topic now - I like the plastics, I have to get some.

I have the last of my bits now and I'm slowly trying to put them together.
Still can't ride so I might as well take my time.
Firstly we have...
Surflex Slipper clutch with extra 7 & 8kg springs. I have no idea what rate the stock springs in it are. I'll find out when I pull them out.
http://vsmr.net/albums/ktm/Slipper1.jpg
http://vsmr.net/albums/ktm/Slipper2.jpg
http://vsmr.net/albums/ktm/Slipper3.jpg
Biggus Discus.
I couldn't get the black one so had to go with the Orangutang gold one.
http://vsmr.net/albums/ktm/DecentDisc.jpg
Biggus Pumpus.
16x18 with short articulated lever.
Now I need new handguards, old ones wont fit on with this.
http://vsmr.net/albums/ktm/MCB1.jpg
http://vsmr.net/albums/ktm/ShortyLever.jpg
Painted the Veypor case black so it doesn't shine in my eye. ;)
http://vsmr.net/albums/ktm/VeyporCaseBlack.jpg
Assorted extra orangutang gold bling that doesn't make my bike handle or go faster in any way shape or form. :)

Good luck finding a handguard to fit a radial master cylinder.
Ive been tryin to find one to fit mine. They master cylinder is just too long.
Let me know if you have any luck Justin.
As for thw Braking Wave disc the difference they make in feel is incredible.
Love the clutch man, let us know how it goes!

i run arebis with out a problem on a 16x16 radial brembo . you just need a vice and a 30mm ring spanner a little bit of elbow grease and fits like a ripper :D

Kon,
You might find the Cycra SM Bend will fit up if you mount them to the top clamp with the appropriate kit/make your own mounts.
The disc makes a big difference and after riding a mates with the Braking Wave over my Talon 320, I loved it so much I replicated it
Nice bits Justin.
The slipper looks a compact unit and will be an advantage on the small layout of the GPTC.
getting serious about starting and stopping mate,
Time for Winton then?
BLING!
That disc looks nice.
I notice the PTFE tape in one of the pics, are you putting it under the lever perch so that it moves if it touches the ground?
Articulated lever looks good too, I think I might have a crack at making some - don't watch this space (it may take some time)
Looking at your sliders, the ones I made are WAY too long (35mm front & 40mm rear) but on the plus side they will NEVER pull through like the KTM ones, still need to drill the axle ends and rear nut to fit them.

Sweet mate 8) Those articulated levers are gold, can you buy them separately? And where you get that mirror from?
Sibbo
26-10-2006, 09:09 AM
My Bark busters fit over my radial master cylinder (to radial capiler!!!), but I tend to run the perch as in board as possible. It is a perfect fit, no bending needed.

@ Sibbo & Shane.
Yeah, she's as flash as a rat with a golden tooth now. :)
Just got to ride it faster. ;)
@ Neil.
I can't afford a radial caliper & the fork leg bit to bolt it on to.
The last bit I want is a P4 brembo caliper to replace the goldline.
Like this one: http://www.yoyodyneti.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=20.4756.59
@ megahead & Tambi.
Got the mirror & articulated lever from Roadrocket in West Melbourne.
@ yobgow.
I'll let you now how I go with the handguards, I'll check out the Ascerbis ones Shane suggested and maybe some barkbusters with some spacers.
Once I have the clutch in I shall let you know what it's like. :)
@ Paul.
That's what the tape is there for. ;)
@ Muzz.
As soon as I can see properly again. I can't wait to have a crack at Winton. I love the infield parts there.
I'm spewing I missed a look/see last weekend @ the Superbikes. :(
@ Sibbo again.
The new style radial on your Berg is nice and compact, I was admiring it at the last GPTC. I got half a mongrel drooling over your caliper too. :)
@ Anyone I missed.

Overtake me on the right hand side at your peril. ;)
Which is good thing as I'm better at left handers than right handers.
Any of you blokes have a dominant side you are more confidant chucking it into?

I used to prefer the left so I practised the rights and now I don't seem to mind
shane
01-11-2006, 08:55 PM
i dont care , but i am about to put on my 3rd left boot sole and still running the first one on the right , might be because its on the brake longer, where in the left handers i can hang it out there

kroosn
02-11-2006, 11:24 AM
i prefer left handers but i think thats the years of speedway coming out in me also the fact i can still cover the brake sliding it. but who cares a corner is a corner anything is better than straight roads, unless your doing wheelies havnt got that whole corner wheelie thing down pat yet.

Muzzard

I dont really mind either way, but like Shane the left boots getting a floggin'.
The right handers aren't as smooth on the slide for me cause I gotta get off the brake and pick up the traction earlier in time to get the foot out.
I am going to have to work on the right handers for the GPTC in case we run in reverse, but out on the road, and the Tawonga Gap for instance, I dont feel the need to get the foot out as we are usually going so fucking fast that the slide is progessive and very stable at high lean angles because of the inertia of the bike and the road speed.
Rather than the slower speed and heavy braking for the tighter corners of the GPTC.
dangermouse1100
02-11-2006, 11:56 AM
I would say i have a preference to left handers, being able to keep the right foot on the brake. When we ran the track in reverse, i didn't get any corners right. :?

Left handers for me for sure, no idea why, but lots of people seem to prefer lefts to rights
And no need to go into detail about what preferences you're overcompensating for there sibbo :lol2:
ZuluFoot
02-11-2006, 09:23 PM
Well. I hate to go against tradition, but I swing the other way  right handers are my thing, left handers you have to keep footing around to get to the gears, right handers u've done all yer rear braking by the time yer foot comes off the pegs, so its just much smoother. imho anyway 8)
