I will be in Melbourne on saturday morning (Kilsyth) for the GPTC track day and will be riding over there so Tania can take the ute.
Anyone from the Eastern Suburbs want to meet up at Peter Stevens for the trip over to South Morang?
Last time we did this, it was just as good as the track day ;) ...
GPTC opens @ 10 am so maybe 9.00-9.15am in Ringwood.

With the prospect of seeing Sibbo thrash the ring off his shiny new Burgermiester I might ignore the fact that I don't arrive back in Oz until 5AM Saturday and drag my carcass out to Lemon Merangue for a look.
Maybe I can scape the remaining outline of tread pattern off my rear tyre, but I'd need more teeth on the sprokets to be able to do that.
dicky.
<Weather permitting of course>

Sounds good to me Dicky.
Theres no good sleeping when theres bike riding to be done mate...
Besides theres teeth on the other half of the sprocket.

Dicky, you can stay in bed, cos I wont be there. I am not sure if I will have the berg by this w/e. And i have to run it in, before reving its tits off. Anyway, I am going shooting things in the country this w/e, so you will have to fly back in a few weeks to check it out.

No better place to run it in that on the track ;)

So what happens at South Morang, I have seen it mentioned alot on this forum, just wondering as I am moving down to Melbourne at the end of the year, probably going to be living around Croydon way.
Well give us a heads up as I will be keen to check it all out next year.
Cheers

Its a kart track thats privately owned and managed by a man with foresight for motards and mini motards who allowed us the use of the track for practice/ride days for a measley sum of $25 per bike.
No formal requirements, except for we would be asking that all VSMR members make an attempt at machine readiness (catch bottling at least) to comply with general track rules for safety and have protective clothing appropriate to what you are doing. Recommend leathers obviously but if not able to afford them and the bike, then we will give you some grace...
As most of our bikes carry full onroad registration we are covered by TAC insurance as we are not racing.
We are social riding, No different than falling off in your driveway...
(Point to remember)
There is a dirt section too and the use is usually dictated by volume of riders wanting to use it on the day...

It has to be run anti-clockwise, well not really, but it gets really nasty the other way (clockwise).

I like it both ways but not everyone does. Regardless I'd like to wear both sides of the tyres out, hey Muzz!!
Alternate direction?
Muzzard

We can alternate if you like...
A session about..

errmmm....OK Ash, this is not a "come out" area!
But when you come around the bottom part of the track (on the pic) and go past the pits, you are going pretty fast and if you get it wrong, you will crash into people in the pits.
Muzzard

I have to agree with Sibbo and say the anticlockwise direction is best for overall track speed, and safety to all people around the circuit.
The pits are exposed in either direction and should maybe have a taller tyre wall placed there.
I would be up for the tyres supply (ex-silage heap) and banding together to get it done if need be. But to locate the tyres in Melbourne would be easier than the cartage from Wangaratta. I'd still supply the labour..
The only draw back is the excessive tyre wear on the left side of the tyre.
I will no doubt get myself a pair of track slicks to save the roadworthiness of my street tyres.
One track day and I'm unroadworthy off a new tyre  ....
Sibbo

I can bring 1/2 a trailor full of tyres everytime I go to the track if that helps.

I will talk about it with Braxton and see what he thinks. ;)

Its Thursday,
How many, if any, are going to be starters in Ringwood to ride to South Morang on Saturday morning?
Wobbly

I have some things to take care of in the morning so I might be down a bit later on rather than the early start...

Decided as there was not much in the way of riders to travel over from Ringwood, to come down Saturday morning straight to GPTC off the freeway.
See you there... ;)

Day was good, though turnout sparse. Dicky and myself turned up, but in spectating mode due to lack of sleep and lack of bike respectively (plus lack of non-wobbly legs  ). Muzz was hoopin around most of the day and chris turned up late in the day to cut some laps on the ex-danno berg 650 :) Weather was beautiful, so hopefully better turnout in a fortnight's time!

I've got the video clips, just in the process of uploading them now. The auto focus jiggery thing on the cam seemed to have a mind of its own so unfortunately there's not much in the way of that, but you get the idea :)
When they're up they should be in here:

Thanks Chris. ;)
Now I've had a nigh-nigh I still gotta say,
Man this friggin sucks.
How many enquiries do we field about motard, tracks, track use, and how often and Melbourne eh?
Well?
Fucking heaps, do a search.
Ive been going to Lemon Merangue for a while, with the mini too to try to keep time on the track, liasing with the GPTC for the access, and then the 499 keyboard riders decide the car needs washing, the mother in laws arse needs licking, the dog crapped in the shed and now I cant stand the smell to get to my motard, and every other excuse under the sun, for non attendances.
Who cares? It costs more for me to attend GPTC fortnightly than running every week at Winton open practice @ 110 a day.
Winton is 24 km from me, Not 240...
I can ride the saleyards of Wangaratta which by the way is a better circuit for free with more motards than we get to GPTC, (we have 5 in Wangaratta CBD alone) and its 3 minutes from my place through the practice area others call the industial estate. No need for tyre warmers ;) ...
So I may concentrate on the bigger bike purchase more intently and mix it with the Sportbikes locally until numbers pick up. But they had want to pick up soon (Real fucking soon like next fortnight!) because with the hire karts there, as you will realise, money talks and until we can make more for GPTC than the Chinese karts can, be prepared to pay for a long wait. If they get a booking on the day as was yesterday, when a kids party arrived and 'off-ed' us from the track while they putted around for 30 minute sessions. Unfortunately not enough karts for kids heads meant 2 sessions in a row after they changed drivers  ...
Food for thought unless someone on the forum owns land with a kart track, 25000sq/mts of hard standing for use, a warehouse with hard standing, or the likes, somewhere for the Melbourne motard owners to have some legal fun.

that sucks muzz , i would be pissed too . i was out testing today and only me and matt ,3 guys said there bikes wernt ready , 1 was working , another busy looking for stuff for his new house the last one watching the car races.all these guys race in our series over here and the fastest of them is about 3 seconds a lap slower than matt and i .so they are the ones that need the practice and dont show up .which makes race days even worse because they dont get any faster, and we get further and further ahead every race .
the guy that was working said to me on the phone he didnt need to test as he was fast enough because he got 3rd in the last race ,i said you got third his answer yeh i know but i can never bet you or matt so why bother trying .
i guess some people see things a little different .
you should just go for a big bore supermoto and stick it up all the sports bike wakers at winton that would be good for a laugh .
most of the guys dont know how lucky they are ,its only because braxton loves bike they can even get on there . but if numbers dont pick up he will have to put a stop to it as weekeds are when he makes his cash .

Thanks Shane for the support.
And to the other regular folk too. ;)
I just cant fathom it even with the fact its not quite real good weather
Like Justin said too, the fact the anti fun police are now actively riding other peoples bikes over the weekends now if they catch you doing wheelies or the likes during the week, (Road Safety Act), makes it even more attractive as licences are a necessity for employment anywhere.. :?
And as for the big bore Supermoto I had thought of that after testing the VOR in 01. It was 690cc I think, and had some serious mumbo.
But I suppose a titanium coloured 990 SD with some sweet Arrows and a remap would do the job...
