Thats tomorrow.
Easy ride, up across the spurs.
Even more fun if it's foggy, it'll be like playing murder in the dark, but faster.
Meeting place?
Healesville, Don rd, beside the servo on the way out of town
Launching Place, in the carpark beside the pub
Ringwood, outside Peter Stevens

Majority rules.

Meet at peter stevens btw ... 9.30 is a bit rude I know, but best to get the roads to ourselves and miss out on captain dickhead and his mates :)

Once again, I've got two forums organising rides. Torn!
Either way, as long as the weather is pretty nice, I'll be up on the spurs - orange KTM 640.

If I remember right, y'all are a red trx, and grey husky?

Wobbly
26-08-2006, 11:53 PM
Yep, but the red trx may or may not be a red ktm, depending on whether or not dicky gives the dodgy tyre a go or not :) And there will be a black husky along, and most likely pete on his gixxer as well...

I have just got on the net after 3 days after having to go get a dialup modem from a mate.
Due to telstra having an apprentice from a sheltered workshop doing the connections at the exchange at the moment I am back on dialup from adsl2. :(
I had noi home phone for 2 days, I rang it and it went to another guys house 1 suburbs away.
Best get my leathers out & a jacket, it's a bit fresh.
See you at Ringwood PS.

Dont start me on fucking Telstra and Bigpond...
After their little, "lets set you up on unlimited broadband package @ $90 per month!"

No computer for months after all data was lost, including all programs, no phone for 2 weeks, and now also back on dialup with Austarnet, and Bigpond can tongue it.

Thanks for the ride fellas, good turnout and a nice day for a scenic loop through the spurs :) Sorry for the lack of dirt ash, but my panties got wet enough just with the mild sprinkle of gravel :lol2:

dicky

Good ride.
Got home and lubed the chain, noticed that I've lost every second tooth for half the rear sproket. 12 of them snapped off. Bugger.
No need to fix it though as I won't be riding it.

dicky.

Wobbly
27-08-2006, 03:25 PM
I'll fix it for you dicky - just wheel it around here an, umm, leave the keys :lol2:

Thanks guys.
Good ride. Nice to get some K's on the bike at last.....
I have a few aching back and arm muscles I forgot I had.
Was that silver commodore wagon on the last bit a camera car?
It looked that way.
I think we were all doing about 80 then.

Wobbly
27-08-2006, 03:29 PM
Not sure about the wagon, if you mean the one after christmas hills, but I did slow down a tad as we approached it and we were all toodling around the limit by then ... as we were all day of course (officer) :) I'm pretty happy just to idle down that road as i've seen plenty of unmarked cop cars cruising between christmas hills and warandyte in the past....

Weather was crap this morning here but I did have plans to ambush you blokes at Cambarville.
Rain here at about 5am and thought that it would be equally as shitty on the way down and back so  ...
Good to hear you all came through OK and a good ride was had.. ;)

Hey Muzz I got a white pole just for you mate  Was a good ride guys I had a blast, it was the first ride ride I have done on that bike since last year (except dirt with Dicky and Steve)
As the weather dries out a bit more I'd like to do the road and a bit of dirt Neil!! Practice make perfect :).

It was a good turn out would have been good with a couple more regulars (queensland wimps too far to travel my arse :D )

The high/low lights for me

Almost hitting Hyabusa

Hitting white pole

Seeing the cop bike early!!

Over shooting a corner that I thought was a sweeper and needing to back the bike in past lock :D (Sorry if I scared you Justin!)

My arse snappped shut twice so it must have been a good ride!!

Oh yeah all this fin and not exceeding the speed limit once :D

Overrun flames are cool!
When my WRF has the YZ map set, now and again at high speed, braking into real slow corners it puts a little lick over the rear guard.
Signs of good stage of tune. ;)

SMC690
27-08-2006, 05:13 PM
I wish I could see those flames. :)
I can sure hear the bastards.
I need earplugs, I have had to have 2 iboprufen, my heads killing me, lol.

Ash's cornering effort was awesome, I wish I had a helmet cam.
I nearly had a bowel evacuation on his behalf.
I thought you were off into the bushes ash.

Mate, wait until you ride with jake, you'll have to bring along your repelling gear! It was funny after dicky and i caught up to juz after cumberland junction, coming into marysville, you couldn't work out which individual bike was coughing, spitting and bakefiring at a given point in time, must have sounded like the gates of doom rolling down the mountain :lol2:

Wobbly
27-08-2006, 05:22 PM
And you were doing excellent kyle - the supercomp looks good, very retro  Whack in some different springs, heavy up the oil and you'd probably find it'd do very well indeedy 8)

Photos,I want photos.I'm jealous you guys can get a decent turnout of road regod motards.I went for a quick ride with PostieMoto y'day(good ride/good fun) and that would be the most I have seen on the road at 1 time.Quite a few at track day (sm) and they are going to do another 1.

Muzzard
27-08-2006, 06:54 PM
Keep us posted on the track day news from S.A Timo.
Once the weather improves we will get more reasonable numbers for the rides.

Cross posting for the forum members with other passions than just being one eyed motarders also gathers some group numbers, even if not all on motards, or the vice versa.

sounds like you had a ball ,i used to work all around that area years ago, building houses up the valley , there are some great roads . at xmas i was down at the old mans farm in erica some real nice supermoto roads there also .
i spent the mornig cleaning and polishing the bike as we raced yesterday got 2nd in the first race missed out by a wisker and won the second race for overall win :D
anyone used the dunlop supermoto slicks ??? i ran them yesterday and was very impressed once i got the presure right ,i liked them better than the michelin and brigstone and way way way better than maxxis.

Muzzard
27-08-2006, 07:10 PM
Haven't tried the Dunlops Shane.
Are they specific for motard as opposed to road race type compounds?

Nice result for the racing again mate... ;)

shane
27-08-2006, 08:33 PM
yes muzz supermoto specific , only ran the rear as i run the 16.5 front superbike dunlop tire 950 compound .
they are not cut but already marked for cutting , really good feed back spin up easy but very consistant and they give you loads of confidence , i started off with 26 pound but found they worked a lot better at 22 pound the rears where around 180-190 each and front 140-150 ,i brought them in sydney and had them shipped over , well worth the effort

megahead
27-08-2006, 08:39 PM
thanks neil,
i do know how to set a bike up, its a buget matter at the mo'
i do have some other front springs at home i just gotta see if they are the right rates, if not my bro's changin his spring in his 950adven i gunna check the rate on them , might work?

Wobbly
27-08-2006, 08:53 PM
Could do, depends on spring length of course, but to keep things in budget you could perhaps do something with either getting a short spring and spacing to length, getting a long spring and working out what the rate would change to if you cut it to length (as long as you don't end up binding), or alternatively go with a spring the right length or cut to the right length but with the wrong rate and then bind some of the coils so that it has fewer winds in the coil to deflect under a given load and increases its rate (I think antti tested this out a while ago on his rear spring on the racing xr with some scrap steel :) ).

Do you know what the spring rates are that are in it already?

Muzzard
27-08-2006, 09:21 PM
Thanks Shane ;)
Reckon when you get a moment you could give us a bit of a wrap on the tyres and particularly the 16.5 front on the Workshop Forum?
Maybe a pic of the tyres too?

megahead
27-08-2006, 09:27 PM
no not yet it might be standard but i think it was modifed by the previous owner as he was a real short arse but there still way to soft
i will do some research during the week on spring rates and see how i go
i had a quote on new spring and revalve/lowerd the works for $800
its tempting but i'm tryin to be a tight arse at the mo'

i am keen to hit lemon merang, know any cheap transporters for the bike. as long as some one can lend me a pillow, blanket and floor that would be cool.

u guys could visit here but it might melt your white melb flesh

If you want to head down for an organised track day (esp when it warms up a bit ;) ) then you're welcome to use the spare room at my place, so accomodation shouldn't be a drama. Of course all I need now is a trailer :lol2:

If you want to go for a full revalve then that'll cost you, but you could do front + rear springs and oil for about $350 and probably an extra $100 for a shock re-oil & re-gas... and you could do it in stages of course... or maybe even just try heavier oil and close up the air gap a bit on the forks and go for a basic shock service... :?:

What bike are we talking about? Supercomp ?
KTM I take it, year model?
At $800 Mega, Sounds an expensive suspension fix.
Is it that bad that adjustment wont diagnose the problem?

Wobbly
27-08-2006, 11:21 PM
96 :?: KTM 620 supercomp....

megahead
28-08-2006, 01:30 PM
98 sc
rear preload has been adjusted and mearsured by the settings from static to g1 sag. this tells me my spring rates are to soft
same goes for front springs. i used to set up superbikes i do have a fair idea of what i want by measured settings and feel
i'm not sayin i know all but i do know what works for me
That quote of $800 is for a full on motard setup lowerd, revavle, new springs, rebuild rear shock,etc.. it might be a bit pricey but it would be done right to my specs and weight

megahead
28-08-2006, 01:34 PM
ps
i know i could muck around myself which i am thinkin of for fun and budget but after havin had some pretty well sorted bikes its hard to go back to the cheap way. normally budget is not to much of a concern
but at the mo' i'm back at skool on austudy nuff said

Muzzard
28-08-2006, 01:39 PM
Understand...
Just asking to try to help with the cheapest option, one of the reasons I built the discs and wheels, want the best but dont like the bullshit price tag for someone else to do the work...
Also understand the good bike setup and then going back to working basically with what you have and a very limited budget too.
All good Mega.

sorry if i sounded a bit rude i had my period today ha
actually its my siactic nerve givin me the shits i can hardly walk after the ride (damn vibes on the ol'rattle bomb)

Muzzard

Sympathise with sciatic nerve deal mate...
I have nerves sending shit to my head I never knew I had.
I had a off a few years ago resulting in several (6) compression fractures to the spine in 2 seperate areas, upper mid, and lower of course, and a coccyx that was no cock I assure you.
And then to top it off, when I thought I was better and the Doctor didn't
(6 weeks post accident) I went for ride anyway and seeing it was such a good day, thought I might chuck in a tank stand for my mate as I passed him on the Tocumwal Rd, at about warp 5 and then proceeded to hit a bump and fall off the side, still doing about 90kph.
I think that really did the trick to the old back  ...
Feel the impacts of it every day.. and no offence taken mate ;) ...

Interesting all the riding styles on Sunday.
You can pick the different guys with the different styles from the discliplines they cut their teeth on. You dirt guys can do stuff I would never dare...yet.
Am I the only one here that hang's off a SM like a road rider, lol?
I must have looked like a right wally.....
I was surprised there weren't many unicyclists amongst us either. ;)

Sorry to have held you up in the first bit mega. :)

I wasn't implying that you weren't cool Neil just that you ride knee down :D

I was right behind you with that nice mono mate, I think the bus drivers eyes got really big as well!!

The guy on the 748 almost ended up as a falcon in the spur he was trying to stay ahead of me and he passed a car in a dumb spot and there was a falcon coming, there was nothing in it!! It was a very close (that' coming from me as well!)

SMC690

Nothing wrong with knee down. :)

I think when you guys were concentrating on impending doom with said bus it was the only decent one I did all day, got 4 out of 5 gears, lol.

I was behind you Ash with the falcon v 749R episode. I bet he plays that one back a few times wiping his brow. :)
