View Full Version : 2011 QLD Titles Round 1 Stanthorpe - March 12/13
Good news!!
We have dates for Stanthorpe and Round 1 of the QLD Supermoto Titles - March 12 & 13. This event is always a good one and a full dirt/bitumen Supermoto Track.
I dont have alot of details on classes, entry fees, camping etc as all we have at the moment is a date. The event will mirror last year which was hugely successful and there is no reason it cant be better this year!
An inovation from last year was the demonstration class for new riders which runs as part of the race meet but is basically just a timed session. This is for people wishing to have a go without the pressure of racing or for those on street bikes wishing to just have a ride. It will continue again this year.
As we have limited info please dont ask to many questions as we probably dont have the answers yet. If there is interest from riders from Victoria, SA or WA please contact me.

That brings back some great memories :) Note Relphy hitting the deck at 0:33 as he tried to lean on me into the left hander :) Also my awesome jumping technique on display in lap 2; It was late in the day! I love how you can see my front wheel bouncing over the braking bumps as I outbrake you into the corner :) Then I lost it trying to cover my line onto the main straight. Wish I could race with you again this year Mark, you rode well.
Edit - I just realised, this was the last race of the weekend and I retired after coming down hard on my ankle after an unconventional landing. That and a broken big toe still couldn't spoil my weekend. Racing makes a lot of other things seem insignificant :)
Anyone wanna race in the demonstration class?

Cheers Paul I thought you'd like that. I'm keen as mustard to get out at Winton this weekend on the short track!
They've also evened it up a bit by not allowing cross entry so hopefully no more racing 1198's and the like!
Hi Jovian, We have 6 riders from the Whitsundays so far, 3 - 250's & 3 - 450's.
Same guys as last year and a couple more.

G,day Fellas
Looks like i am not going to be able to make this one. I am currently in north thailand with my girl Beth and my KTM 950. I am having way too much fun riding on these awsome roads. I am currently doing the Mae Hong Song loop which has over 1800 corners. The bitchy is in good nick with good grip and smooth flowing endless corners.:) Looks like we are going to stay for about 10 weeks. We will spend around 6 weeks in North Thailand and 4 weeks in Laos. I may even get to ride or race supermoto in Bangkok:eek: will no more later. If any of you guys have been thinking of going on holiday in Thailand go north to Chang mai and hire a supermoto and you will have the ride of your life its like one huge supermoto track with no road rules motorcycling nirvana.8)

Coxy at his usual best! Did Webby join him in the medical centre again? And hows Traily going?
Webby stayed on the bike for the most part. Winning one of the Vets rounds and doing very well overall I think.
Luke is alright, dislocated everything, but will be back on the bike.
Great meeting, very well organised and no real incidents. Cant wait for round 2!
The general consensus was that it was a great weekend and if you weren't there you missed out. Ross Taylor was unstoppable in the Vets and S1 class [when he stayed on the bike ;) ] Seeton Battle and Alex Harriman gave him a run for his money in the S1 races but they couldn't quite match the pace of the FNQ rider. Race of the weekend had to be Maestro starting from pit lane and putting on a spectacular display of on-the-edge but well considered riding through the field to take the win.
The premier S2 class was well attended and this made for some great racing all through the field. Alex Harriman, Jarrod Koppe and Beau Laing were the guys up front with eventual victor, Koppe putting his dirt-track skills to good effect on the loose Stanthorpe dirt. With such a big field, there were some great battles throughout the pack.
Reigning national S3 champion Beau Laing once again continued his domination of the 250 class with Peter Hull and Luke Trail fighting it out for 2nd place, an unfortunate incident over the bumps in the S2 class meant Trail did not make the last few S3 races and promoted Whitsunday rider, Sam Crossley, into the number 3 position in the final results.
As always, the veterans class provided some great battles, the golden oldies were joined by a few newcomers but the old dogs didn't take the challenge lying down and made young vet, Ross Taylor, work for the victory with Steven Relph and Webby taking the 2nd and 3rd positions on the podium. This class also brings out the best wheelies, Maestro, Coxy and Ian McHugh provided the spectators with some spectacular monos on the formation lap.
The novice class was a little under represented but this provided a welcome break in proceedings for most of the riders, some of the less experienced competitors made use of the sessions to build their track knowledge and get some extra practice in. Overall, the novice sessions were the best value of the weekend, most participants managed 9 laps per session compared to 6 laps for a race.

As for Ross, the slow mo vid shows what it takes to win. Absolutely no fear (or brains ) what so ever just pin it and win it!
Well done to all the organisers and competitors plus volunteers, you guys are what make it real, real supermoto that is, where racers can compete and the track is just another competitor.

That's what we want to see! :) Once again we hope to be able to offer free entry to interstate competitors and hopefully we can extend it a bit further this time.
Will there be a novice class at this event?
Not sure if we will retain the format for a non-competitive novice class as the numbers were a bit low last weekend and that track-time could have been used to give other competitors more racing - Not that there was a shortage of racing! We may revive the clubman class with a few conditions to try and keep the trophy hunters out.
Either way, if you want to ride, we will find a spot for you somewhere. The first race is always scary but the scariest thing is never trying ;)

How about gradings instead?
Gradings are difficult to do, partly because there aren't enough events to accurately gauge a person's skill level. To grade effectively, it is required to look at a person's overall performance at more than one track. Taking road-racing as an example, it's not good enough to be able to lap Broadford near the lap-record for your class, it has to be shown that you can lap consistently fast at a range of different tracks.
Some riders are reluctant to be graded because once you get above a certain grade it precludes you from some events - for example, Superstock is C&D grade only. Also gradings for one discipline do not necessarily carry through to another discipline, this even extends to capacities where some riders may have one grade for small capacity machines and another grade for larger capacity machines, although this is mainly for younger competitors who are progressing through the ranks.
MarkeeMark

Thanks for clearing that up Paul.
To cut a long story short (too late!) I was really trying to say that gradings aren't easy! We'll work something out that gives everyone the maximum amount of tracktime :)

Hi guys
Like I said before, I'm happy to help out at this end (Cairns) I can store 4-6 bikes and gear in a secure spot, I live just outside of Cairns (closer to the track) and I'm about an hour from the track.
Let me know if there is anything I can do to help out, I can pick up bikes and bring them to my place if you aren't comfortable storing them at a depot.
Looking forward to meeting you guys
